Views
They took the lift out
Lovely Location overlooking the sea. Ordered a sea view room and it was fantastic. A true uninterrupted and private view - great to wake up to!
As some have said slightly “tired” in places but really not a problem.
Lovely staff, sea view room, pleasant breakfast room with fairly good selection of food. Convenient car parking.
Poor shower (water was hot, but flow was poor), dated decor, no tomatoes at breakfast unless requested.
Good location, easy check in check out
Room had strong drain smell.
Breakfast was good
Windows didn't open in room. Very basic.
Building tired could do with updating.
Friendless compfort
Lots of hills
our reception was great The receptionists were friendly and helpful on check in.
1. There was no heating in our room from late evening. It was cold during the night and in the morning. The heating only reached our room at about 10.00am.
2.We were told that we could have breakfast in the bar area with our dog but not that we would each have to go a fair distance to the main dining room obviously, separately, collect our meal and bring it back along the same corridor to the bar area.
3. The initial attitude when my husband complained about the lack of heating in our room which was to give him an email address to contact.
I would guess that it is known but much of the hotel needs a considerable amount of refurbishment and updating.
We got a room with a sea view and king size bed. Lovely full English breakfast in the morning.
Nothing
Huge room, excellent breakfast and lovely staff
The weather! So nothing you could change about that!
Excellent location overlooking the estuary with free car park. Dog friendly and nearby park overlooking sea just a few minutes walk away to exercise dog and leading to clifftop walk. Really good breakfast which was included in price.
Nothing comes to mind
Large room overlooking the sea, good breakfast
It’s a very tired looking everywhere, water out of the shower nearly non existent
Whilst decor is perhaps a little dated(bathroom modern), the hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a warm welcome from all staff.
Good breakfast, evening meal ok
friendly people
water pressure in the room is not ok, slow to get hot water and shower thus not up to standard
Staff were excellent and all very helpful.
The hotel was in the locality we wanted to be
Our room was extremely cold and as my husband is elderly and has osteoarthritis it was a problem
Very helpful and friendly receptionist.
Told bar was closing, although residents. Then other residents told they they could have drinks if they went into the lounge.
Location:
Great imposing location on the estuary mouth, which is atmospheric from a bleak perspective
They have a carpark, so parking is available
Staff:
Without exception all staff were polite & friendly
Rooms:
They have family rooms, which is helpful when you have two children and need a stop over travelling
Restaurant: reports they “pride ourselves on the quality of ingredients and high standards of
service” and our dinner (we chose coconut crumbed haddock) was very nice. The views over the spooky/bleak estuary from the window was nice
Location: they could enhance their garden access, for example they have steps leading down to grounds fenced off, and there is mess around like old bits of wood etc. There was also a broken wine bottle by the outside balcony at 5pm which further suggests they were neglecting ground work as it would have been there from the night before.
Rooms: no temperature control so its either cold or the radiator is on and it got too hot waking us at night. The bed was a bit springy and the remote control for the TV was dirty. Νo smart tv or access to netflix. The bed was springy and the duvet covers were a little lacking in feelings of comfort.
Restaurant: they “pride themselves on the quality of their ingredients” yet put a highly processed vanilla ice cream (with colourings) on the sticky toffee pudding, whilst using a better quality one with no colouring for the individually purchased vanilla. They replaced it on mentioned it, but why penny pinch like this? Just charge 50p more as their restaurant isn’t cheap anyway.
Breakfast: They can’t actually “pride themselves” on breakfast ingredients as most items are of poor quality and/or highly processed. From the pastries, to the nature of the sausage/bacon, to the concentrate orange juice which tasted 50% water. Worse was the coffee, only filtered available which tasted like the cheapest cash and carry dirt.
Owners need to recognise that quality breakfast is a key part of the stay and if they want to encourage return or repeat business, they need to match the quality offered in the general restaurant.
