The Art Deco is charming. The majority of the staff were friendly and helpful. The 5pm social hour was nice, with complimentary wine, but food should also be offered (for a sale).
Rooms are aged. Cupboard doors and storage could be better, either offer a water bottle for everyday of stay or not at all. If you want people to refill their own water, how about leaving them something to refill???
One doorman, whose uniform was too tight, was rude and abrasive, and insisted on lecturing me on how over-worked the “poor” housekeeping staff are, and my room would get serviced when they were available. When I asked him to remember I was the customer, he decided to march up and down the reception area shouting “LETS GET ROOM 511 CLEANED NOW”. This seemed to be funny to the other staff and clearly this poor chap has been employed on a special program – but still not great for customers.
Also IHG, if you don’t want to clean my room, then let me know before booking or offer a CASH discount. Let’s say a 20% room rate reduction? Otherwise STOP asking if I prefer my room to be unserviced… It wont save the earth, it will just give you more profit. And I come to a “5-Star” hotel to get fresh towels snd my room cleaned – without this I’m at home… STOP trying to make me feel guilty about having a hard earned holiday and get more staff and train the ones you have to respect where their pay cheque comes from. Not using IHG again if this is what is on offer. Service hovers around the 3 star point and one bad staff member rots the whole thing.
After three nights staying here I can honestly say that I would not stay again.
For some a soft bed is good but I need a firm bed and I’m sure our mattress is very old as it says terribly and my back is killing me.
They didn’t clean our room and I had to go down and get coffee pods for us in the morning.
