Professional property host/manager
Filthy, over 400 years old and you can tell.
Normally just used by contractors.
Only gave it a 1 for the friendly staff
No bar, no food but free parking.
Great staff
Staff making the best than can with limited facilities
Good location. In center. Needs refurbishing. Couldn't connect to Internet. Needs better management of the hotel.
None
The property has been previously used as an asylum hotel and as such been left in an unsuitable and unsafe condition.i have photos of a few of the issues within the hotel.
I will be asking for a full refund.
Charming old building.
Nothing blocking the window in bathroom. Realised in time to see some weirdo trying to film on phone across the road. (Staff denied was possible till I insisted they come to room and they put a dirty towel up.)
The room was very dirty.
Slept on top Of covers and luckily I carry my own pillow.
A very old listed building so the floors and stairs are uneven - as to be expected so care needs to be taken when walking around.
I stayed a night at Rose and Crown, the room was the most affordable in the area and to my suprise its one of the most beautiful room i ever stayed at. It was perfectly clean, quiet and super unique as its a 400 year old building.
Property was older then descibed, rooms looked nothing like advertised pictures. Was a disgraceful unclean hotel all over.
It is a very old building steeped in history and has fantastic quirky areas for sitting. The staff are great and friendly. It really needs to be used to its full potential. Pur stay was comfortable and the rooms were clean. Some maintainance work is being carried out but didn't affect our stay.
Old building so expect wonky stairs and quite a walk if you are on the top floor. Good receptionist. Value for money.
Staff are superb and now being helped by some refurbishment works, this is a grade II listed building so it's limited in what can be done cost effectively but the the room was clean, functional and suited my needs.
The building is over 400 years old and offers lots of unique features
Creaky floorboards, dingy room, massive hole in wall in room. Smelt abit too.
400 year old building the room was very nice and clean and the staff was very helpful. The floors and stairs are a bit noisy (creaky) but it’s obviously going to be given the age of the building it’s quite stunning also has a nice courtyard and a safe carpark round the back. Overall fantastic weekend stay wouldn’t mind doing it again
To be fair it was a cheap stay but the property is very old and unloved. Clearly whoever owns it had no intention of doing any renovation or long term plans. It’s just a lumpy bed to sleep on for a few hours. Nice general manager who is clearly doing what he can. The restaurant and bars are all closed down
Recommendation for the Rose and Crown Hotel, Wisbech
I wholeheartedly recommend the Rose and Crown Hotel in Wisbech a charming and atmospheric retreat that blends centuries of history with modern hospitality. Having stayed there on many occasions, I can attest to its consistent warmth, character, and comfort.
Dating back over 400 years, the Rose and Crown stands as a proud witness to the evolution of Wisbech. Originally a coaching inn during the market town’s bustling Georgian and Victorian eras, it has hosted merchants, travelers, and townsfolk alike. Through the centuries, it has remained a central fixture — not just architecturally, but in spirit — quietly adapting while preserving its historic soul.
Today, it continues that legacy with tastefully maintained period features, excellent service, and a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. Whether it’s the timbered rooms, the inviting bar, or the friendly staff who always remember returning guests, the Rose and Crown offers something truly special.
It’s rare to find a place that honors its heritage while delivering the comforts expected of a modern stay the Rose and Crown manages both with grace. A genuine gem in the heart of Cambridgeshire.
Good price for a 1 night stay. Friendly host told us about the car park and the fact there was no breakfast which we knew. Hotel was a little run down but our room was clean enough , quite large and had a good view. Tea and coffee and toiletries provided a nice touch. The bed although clean was a little weird as it sloped backwards and had a dent in the mattress. Not too comfy to sleep in as my feet were higher than my head and if i stayed here again i ask for a new room due to the bed not being fit for purpose. I had to sleep upside down in the hope of getting to sleep. It needed replacing. I checked other reviews to see if anyone else had had the same experience. Other reviews were mixed. Would stay here again if i needed somewhere for 1 night but would hope for a better bed.
Bad points:
- Room was infested with ants
- Floor was stained & burned
- Room and bathroom were dirty
- Toilet was stained and flush temperamental
- Mattress / pillows very uncomfortable
- Shower had little to no pressure
Good points:
- Cheap
- Free Parking
