Beautiful old hotel, a little run down but still charming! Michael at the front desk was top notch!

We enjoyed our short stay. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly. We had dinner at the hotel in the bar area as we have a small dog. We were able to shop and eat lunch and breakfast nearby.

Hotel is set in peaceful & beautiful surroundings with great views all within walking distance to local pub. Our room was spacious & tastefully decorated.

The building itself is impressive, set on the seafront behind a charming garden. The public rooms are appealing, and our family room was clean and comfortable. Like many hotels of its age, it feels a little dated, but the price is excellent and the staff are genuinely lovely.

Breakfast was very good, though the evening menu was limited. The Isle of Bute is stunning, but clearly geared toward day visitors—plenty of cafés open during the day, but few options for eating out in the evening, leaving the hotel as the main choice. If you like mashed potato, you’ll be delighted; children will be equally well supplied with chips. The menu is small, the food competently prepared, but the style feels stuck in 1985. The venison casserole was enjoyable, but much else was rather beige. The risotto, however, was frankly poor—an oily, garlicky muddle of rice with thick slabs of melted Parmesan and a token rocket garnish.

The hotel has both a formal dining room and more relaxed bar dining, which would be perfect for separate menus—one more traditional, the other lighter and more contemporary, with an emphasis on salads, seafood, and modern cooking.

Still needs lots of renovating but rooms they have done are good however cleanliness in toilwts etc needs to be improvrd nice

Staff are welcoming and attentive. Very comfortable beds, excellent bedding and sparklingly clean rooms.

Wonderful experience in a neat building! Loved the breakfast. Parking was difficult, but we managed!

Grand old hotel that’s got a great spot in Rothesay. A wee bit tired but overall a fine place to stay.

The hotel is in the process of being renovated, the public areas are very tired looking but the bedroom we had was lovely.

To say the hotel is tired is an understatement, it must have been stunning in its day but that was a long time ago. It[s a beautiful old building, fantastic location, but needs a serious amount of money spent on it which I’m not sure is commercially viable. A shame.

and cheaper than other BandB in thw area
