Pros:

The outlook over portpatrick was great

Cons:

A superior room was not superior, cheap furniture. Only superior because it was on the ground floor. No house staff to change towels or even a bed tidy.

Location of hotel is everything. Portpatrick is a lovely relaxing place.
Pros:

Breakfast was good. Location was very good. Even the walk to the harbour was easy. The weather was also very good. Check in was easy. and staff very nice. The views from the bar area area and balcony are worth the payment alone.

Cons:

The people in the room next door had a dog that whinned and howled into the early hours. The wall between rooms 11 and 12 is paper thin and you can hear everything. However the people we are this is a minor thing as we were on holiday. For people needing to early travel then this might be an issue.

Ok, but beware
Pros:

Good location overlooking harbour, must have been grand in its prime

Cons:

No dinner or bar food after 830, 5 hungry people were not impressed when we arrived at 8:35, their loss as dinner and drinks cost £££

Pros:

Brilliant location. Food OK. Very friendly staff.

Cons:

Seemed understaffed, staff worked very hard but seemed to be doing two jobs at once. Not the best beds to sleep on.

Great location, friendly staff...
Pros:

Views from front of hotel to the village.

Cons:

The windows in some of the rooms are permanently screwed shut which, in my case, made the room very warm at night. Luckily the staff were able to give me a room at the back of the hotel with a window that opened.

Pros:

General Manager is really pleasant and welcoming.
Resraurant staff very kind and helpful always happy as they work away.
Views from the hotel are breathtaking.

Cons:

Reception staff on arrival was unpleasant and unhelpful. We arrived 10 mins before check in time and we seemed to be disturbing her. No welcome or invite just told us that the housekeeping staff was still working and she was waiting to hear from them. No invite to wait in any of the lounges or bar. Nothing. She wasnt again unpleasant t when we did get to check in. Infection she never acknowledged us at any time on our 3 night stay. Every other member of staff did, whether it was good morning or have a nice evening or just asking how we were getting on. This one member of staff let the place down and isn't a face you want to meet on arrival as we just seemed to be a bother to her. She looked down at computer screen when talking no facial contact.
Our room was another problem but after the unwelcoming we received we just got on with it but the room in our opinion should not be used until.it is fully cleaned and carpets renewed or washed. Top of headboard was thick with stour, cobwebs hanging from coving in more than one place, carpets stained, ceiling round light needs painted, bath needs renewed as the paint is all chipping off, windows are rotten...and so the list goes on.
Overall cleanliness of the hotel needs addressed also. Cobwebs in windows and coving again covered in stool, chairs in lounge need upholstered as lots of them are worn away. Paintwork is chipped and dirty. Windowsills in restaurant needs wiped. Same stains on them the whole time we were there which tells me no cleaning getting done in the restaurant other than a quick brush of the floor and tables wiped.
Place needs money spent on it to bring it up to an acceptable standard.

Unimpressed
Pros:

Room was comfortable. Staff polite. Hotel well located

Cons:

Housekeeping. Message about it in room, ambiguous twaddle. When I asked and was told room would not automatically be serviced, I said I expected it to be serviced after every night. Was after 1st night. Not after 2nd night, and I reminded staff I wanted it serviced after 3rd night, and again it wasn't done!!!. So, I ended up having to collect bagful of tea, coffee sugar etc, and girl on reception brought towels to my room and took away used ones. Also took away the rubbish that had accumulated in the room. HOW DARE YOU TREAT PAYING GUESTS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!. Breakfast offering poor for hotel of this status. Just fry up everyday with no choice. Cheapest of items used. The sachets of sauce and marmalade were like something you'd expect from a low rent guest house. Always appeared that something wasn't right in the bar, eg only
one lager available, neither lager available, something wrong with the gas.

Could do better
Pros:

Location/outlook . Peaceful, large pleasant lounge area. Privacy. Cooked breakfast was good - if you wanted that choice . Availabiiity of single rooms.

Cons:

Poor healthy option for breakfast - minimum selection of fruit . What was there was sparse and looked old.- it is easy enough to make and rrefresh a fruit salad - even using frozen fruits these days (Premier Inn manage it). And plain yogurt not always available.

No availabilty of food around lunch time - eg sandwich. The bar lacked atmosphere and felt very souless The staff were very young and pleasant enough (although sparse), but lacked a degree of professionalism. There did not appear to be anyone in a management role.
Had to ask for toilet roll and more tea bags at reception etc for my room as these were not replenished daily - although I did not require to have my room cleaned daily.

Lovely location, poorly trained staff/lack of information.
Pros:

Location was fantastic . Room adequate, if a bit dated .

Cons:

Had dinner included when we booked . Were presented with a 3 course menu at dinner , chose our 3 courses. The main -steak pie was drenched in salt , unable to eat it . This theme continued with the salted caramel profiteroles- again, unable to eat it. To add insult to injury , upon check-out we received a bill for £17:90, informed it was for 2 desserts. I queried this (as dinner was included) , told only 2 courses were included! This was not stated either on the booking , on the menu list , or by the staff member who asked which 3 courses we would like ! (I will be emailing the property today to complain ).
For this reason we would not stay there again .
