Excellent body massage. Xuyen and Thuy
Having experienced luxury in Hoi An, we did not expect to receive better here at the Ninh Binh Hidden Charm, and although we were right in that assumption, the experience was equalled. Amazing staff provided a stress-free, restful experience, and in general, the comprehension and mastery of spoken English were good. The rooms were excellent, spacious and certainly in our case with magnificent views over what is often termed an "inland Halong Bay". The breakfast buffet again was quite amazing, but differed in cuisine from that of Hoi An, as Ninh Binh is influenced more by the cuisine of the North than that of Central Vietnam. A must-try is the smoked Goose Breast - less fatty than bacon and far less salty.
The hotel lies in the Ninh Binh village suburb of Tam Coc-Bich Dong, which seems to be a haven for backpackers. The centre of Tam Coc is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and you do tend to take your life in your hands with regard to the traffic. My main advice is to maintain a steady pace and keep going - they will move around you. The town is busy 24/7, and there seems to be no let-up. Heat and humidity allowing, a stroll around the back streets is interesting and rewarding, and for those willing to cycle, bicycles can be borrowed from the hotel, and it is well worth a short ride to outlying hamlets. I am reliably informed that, if you find Grandma's Kitchen, you are in for a treat.
The hotel itself has the rather faded elegance of a past soviet era influence, but is certainly none the worse for that. However, that faded elegance becomes apparent with the obviously neglected rear gardens and the upper floor of the outside wing above the spa and gym. Hopefully, management will take steps to restore that wing to its former elegance.
Unfortunately, we arrived in the middle of a fairly severe heatwave, and the pool area has no protection from the sun. Therefore, it was a case of walking on red-hot coals across baking tiles to reach the pool, only to find the water was the temperature of lukewarm soup. The provision of some sheltering sails could well resolve this. There is a poolside bar from which drinks and snacks can be ordered.
In summation, the Ninh Binh Hidden Charm does provide a 5-star experience at a reasonable price, although, as stated, the rear gardens and wing of the hotel would benefit from attention and refurbishment, whilst the pool area would benefit from more shade. As for the staff, we have nothing but praise.
Amazing hotel in the best location. Lovely staff, very comfortable bed and great shower. Free bikes to use! Huge pool with stunning scenery. Perfect breakfast to start the day.
Not major but bar didn’t stay open late.
Great room and good location and free bikes were a real plus. Annie was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast needed to be replenished after initial rush and coffee heated up again.
Friendly staff, spacious room, really good amenities- free bike rental and we were able to rent scooters from the hotel which was really handy! Lovely pool area with views of the rice field. Gym was amazing, good AC and the maintenance man was really kind and filled up the water for us! Hotel is in a great location, close to everything you need while being quiet enough for a good sleep.
We found the breakfast quite poor. It was included in the price which was nice, however we tried it twice and did not enjoy the food at all. There weren't amazing options and the food didn't taste overly fresh. There were flies landing on the food which wasn't great. Apart from the breakfast we loved everything.
Great location, excellent service, loved the bikes onsite and location was perfect

The hotel is just gorgeous. Spectacular gardens.
No pool bar operational and difficult to order food and drinks.
Hidden Charm Boutique Hotel ended up being a comfortable recharge spot for my time in Ninh Bình. I arrived late, around 10:30 PM, so the first night was just sleep, but the next morning the buffet surprised me. They served bún riêu, the tomato‑broth noodle soup, and honestly it was better than most hotel breakfasts back in the US. It was a nice change from the usual “hotel pho.”
What really stood out was the hospitality. Annie at the front desk answered my local questions, suggested my itinerary, remembered me, and greeted me every time I walked in or out. It reminded me of the service at La Siesta in Hanoi. For someone like me who occasionally needs help navigating, that kind of attention is refreshing and makes the stay feel more personal.
As for the room, I know some reviewers had issues, but nothing is perfect. If the AC isn’t cold enough, just ask for another room. Mine was freezing — I set it to 16°C, then raised it to 22°C because I like sleeping with a blanket. The bathroom had the usual Vietnam setup: bathtub, half glass door, water splashing out, towels placed far from the tub. Minor inconvenience, but not something I’d deduct a star for.
The bed was actually a highlight. I plan my itinerary on the bed, and the big pillows made it easy to lean back with my laptop resting on another pillow on my thigh. It became my little workstation and was surprisingly comfortable.
I also used their laundry service, which they charge by weight. It was 70,000 VND per kilogram, and mine came out to 3.6 kg. I dropped it off downstairs before breakfast and got it back at 4 PM the same day. No hassle at all — just something convenient if you plan to clean your clothes during the trip. For reference, in a US hotel you’d buy detergent ($2), dryer sheets ($2), plus coins for the washer ($2) and dryer ($2). Sure, that’s cheaper, but you also have to babysit the machines and move your clothes around. Here, you drop it off and pick it up later. One less thing to think about.
My room faced the back, which I didn’t choose, but it was quiet with a nice view. I sleep like a log anyway, but if noise bothers you, just tell reception. I base my reviews on my own experience, and compared to other hotels — like Sapa Pistachio with its weak flush — Hidden Charm had no major issues. Overall, it’s a nice hotel in a good location, a reliable place to cool off, rest, and reset between exploring the area.
Nhung and Dung were so good! We got the Bamboo Massage, Anna Facial, and Body Srub. So comfortable that we fell asleep on the tables a few times. Highly recommend them for your next trip!
I had a very positive experience at this hotel in Ninh Binh. It is officially a 4-star property, but in my opinion it easily deserves 5 stars.
For me, it was a real discovery. I actually moved here from another hotel, and this place completely saved my stay. In Ninh Binh, many accommodations are eco-lodges or bungalows surrounded by nature, which is beautiful, but I personally struggle with insects. This hotel was therefore a perfect alternative and exactly what I needed.
The views from the room were stunning, and the overall atmosphere was very relaxing. The hotel offers a beautiful swimming pool, a spa, and a gym, all of which were well maintained and enjoyable to use. The breakfast was excellent as well — very varied and of high quality.
The staff were extremely polite, professional, and always helpful, which made the experience even better. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well equipped, with a very nice view.
The only negative point I noticed was the cleanliness behind the bathtub area, which seemed not to have been properly cleaned and had visible marks. That was a bit disappointing.
As part of a Luxury Escapes tour we were lucky enough to stay at the Hidden Charm in Ninh Binh. After a refreshing swim I had a fantastic and great value massage at the Charming Spa which I would highly recommend as part of your visit!
Muy buena ubicación
The location is great.
It could be a bit more kid-friendly. It should have a part of the pool for kids and also some area to play.
The location of the hotel is wonderful.
The hotel is in need of a refurbishment.
The breakfast was the same for every day we were there and was substandard for a 4 star hotel. The staff seemed quite cold and unwelcoming and limited English. The bell boys was very smiley.
They could do with supplying conditioner and body lotion.
The bed's were hollowed out like boats and need replacing. I can see this hotel used to be 4 star but not any more.
