It was only just ok as we froze in our room.
Cons:

Our air conditioning was really cold and couldn’t be adjusted. They came several times to fix it but in the end it still wasn’t fixed. We asked if we could be moved from there but they refused to do that. We won’t be going back there when we visit next.

Beachfront comfortable stay at the heart of Bentota
Pros:

Great beachfront location plus the convenience of the train station . Exceptional buffet. The beach seafood and also nice with a relaxed vibe

In the future , it would be great to have the option of fan or AC in the rooms

Pros:

The hotel grounds are well maintained and visually appealing, and the beachfront itself is lovely (although there is some visible rubbish, but that is just positioning of the ocean). The room was comfortable overall, and dinner was good with breakfast offering a decent selection.

The standout staff were housekeeping and the grounds team. They were consistently friendly, hardworking, and proactive in greeting guests and checking in with how your day was going. The omelette chef at breakfast was also excellent and good banter.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing, largely due to poor organisation and lack of service from customer-facing staff.

Activities advertised were not delivered. Water aerobics and bocce were both listed but did not run on either day. When I tried to locate the water aerobics, there was no staff present at either pool. After asking multiple staff members, I was eventually told it wasn’t running that day — with no apology or explanation. If activities aren’t running, they should not be advertised.

Basic hotel processes were unclear. We were given towel cards but there was no signage or clear location to exchange them. The layout of the hotel is also quite non-intuitive, which adds to the confusion.

Service in restaurants was inconsistent and frustrating. We were told we could order dessert à la carte in the main restaurant, only to then be told by another staff member that we had to leave unless we were having the buffet. We were redirected to the café, where options were even more limited, and then told to go back to the restaurant again. In the end, we gave up and ordered externally, which is not what you expect at a hotel of this level.

Staff generally appeared disengaged and uninterested, particularly in guest-facing roles. There were often multiple staff present but not actively assisting guests. At check-out, staff insisted I scan a QR code to leave a “good review” and then asked me to prove I had submitted one, which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable.

The spa experience was below average and overpriced. The treatment quality was poor, and at times it felt like the therapist was distracted as she would only use one hand. There was also a large spider in the treatment room, which, while understandable in this environment, could have been addressed before guests noticed.

The hotel itself feels somewhat dated internally, and while the room was fine, the shower clearly needs maintenance.

Outstanding Stay with Amazing Food & Friendly Staff
Pros:

We stayed 2 days at EKHO Surf and overall had a truly great experience. The view was beautiful, the room was very clean, and everything was well maintained. The food was excellent throughout our stay.

A special highlight was the restaurant experience. We would like to give a special thank you to S D Samara and Chamod Kariyawasam, who worked at the live kitchen. Both of them did an excellent job — very friendly, welcoming, and highly skilled.

They prepared fresh food right in front of us, and everything was incredibly tasty. We even requested a few custom dishes, and they handled it perfectly. Their talent and passion really stood out and made our dining experience memorable.

The buffet was also amazing, with a great variety of options to choose from.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and the staff truly made the difference. Highly recommended!

Great Stay. Even Better People.
Pros:

We had a wonderful stay at EKHO Surf Bentota and truly enjoyed every moment of our experience.

A special thank you to Aruni from the front office for the warm welcome and for guiding us smoothly through the check-in process — she did an excellent job.

We also celebrated our son’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel restaurant staff went above and beyond to make it truly special. We would like to personally thank Illiyas, Subashini, Imalka, Tharindu, Sadaru, and Ridmi for their outstanding effort and kindness.

Subashini deserves a special mention as well — she is a talented photographer who beautifully captured our son’s birthday moments in a very unique way.

The food was great, and the overall service was outstanding. Housekeeping also did an amazing job, keeping the room spotless with great attention to detail.

Highly recommended — we will definitely be coming back!

Great place, lovely beach.
Pros:

Everything here was great. Big hotel/resort. 2 big pools, one deep, one long and shallow. lovely view and balcony. breakfast buffet was excellent, as was the dinner one. right on beach, close to town though why bother going there. beach is big and lovely. water temp was 29 degrees.

Cons:

the advertised activities namely stretch class and aqua aerobics did not happen on both days. front desk staff knew nothing about it. a bit disappointing as we were ready and waiting.
there is not much else at Bentota, just a bunch of resorts. Town is not much.

Great relaxing stay!
Pros:

Great location, right by the sea.
Rooms with a comfortable bed, desk, seating area, wardrobe and safe. Fridge, kettle, coffee, tea, and extra water free of charge.
Balcony with direct sea views.
Two Swimming pools, one of which is very large.
A long sandy beach is perfect for a stroll. You can go surfing practically on your doorstep.
Nice beach bar.
Friendly staff.
Tuc right outside the door.

Das Hotel hat eine außergewöhnliche Lage direkt an dem schönen und sauberen Strand. Auch die beiden Pools sind hervorragend. Insbesondere der direkte Zugang von einigen Zimmern zum Pool ist super.
Das Frühstücksbuffet war lecker und für jeden Geschmack war etwas dabei.

Cons:

Die Hotelanlage, insbesondere die Hotelzimmer sind deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. In unserem Zimmer waren einige Einrichtungsgegenstände (Lampen, Bilder, Spiegel) bereits defekt/ in keinem guten Zustand.
Die Sauberkeit war deutlich ausbaufähig. Auf Handtüchern und Bettlaken waren zum Teil Flecken. Das Zimmer roch teilweise etwas muffig. Hier erwartet man von so einem Hotel doch etwas mehr.

Pros:

Had a lovely 4 day vacation at Ekho Surf. The best and most memorable experience for us would be the hospitality of the staff specially Ghayan, Subhashni and Ravisha they were the sweetest and most helpful. Loved the iconic beach view from the room. The food is delicious. Will definitely come again.
