Location was nice, George was a big asset to the lodge. He made things a lot easier for us.
Disappointed in our bed it was hard and not something you would lay down and just sinking into she was ripped not enough covers. Our air conditioner didn’t work coffee made maker didn’t work. Didn’t feel that they showed us how to operate things in the room.
I did not know this was even a thing! For years I have had mired the homes, not knowing it was possible to stay in them. Very classy, clean, comfortable!
If you are looking for a place to stay on property at Colonial Williamsburg that has character, the Colonial Houses are a great idea. You are very near the historical area (I was on Francis Street directly behind the Taverns) in a building with Colonial character but modern amenities. The cost was a bit less than the hotels, and my lodging was less formal than a hotel.
The location could not have been better. The room is in the center of Williamsburg next to the outdoor market. You park behind the inn, which we did and then we never used our car during the stay. It was very hot when we were there so being able to stop in the room and cool down was great.
It is a full size bed which was not a problem but good to be aware.
Staff were overall very pleasant and friendly.
Overall the facility was excellent. The room we selected was one of the nicest 'Colonial Houses' we've stayed in, and we have stayed in several over the years. The furnishings are so tasteful, the bed, the 'leather' chairs, the drapes, chest of drawers, the arrangement of the fireplace - all incredible. There was a sharp wire or tack end protruding from the upper-back-left of one of the chair backs - would want to be fixed that so no future guest gets scratched. There was a missing drawer pull in the bathroom vanity - that had a sharp end protruding - also needed to be fixed. The bathroom was spectacular - we loved the updated and spacious feel.
It is wonderful to step directly into the eighteenth century. The Colonial Houses make that immersive experience possible. The Colonial Williamsburg part of the trip continues to evolve - the foundation appears committed to preserving the highlights of the educational experience. We love this vacation experience because of the conversations we have - always taking and thinking about the big ideas that led to the revolution and supported the successful creation of a new government 'of the people'.
Overall, our compliments on an exceptional Colonial Houses experience and we look forward to returning.
The Tavern House was clean, convenient, and affordable option. This was our fourth trip to Williamsburg. I will say that we were disappointed in how the interpretations in the houses and other buildings has diminished. While there are people inside the houses there are no guided tours as before. Also, the restaurants in the restored areas are only open on certain days and Chowning's Tavern is closed. It used to provide wonderful evening entertainment and games. It is still a charming, laid back, historical destination, but not like it used to be.
We stayed here 49 years ago for our honeymoon. We returned to take advantage of the Semiquincentennial and the 1776 special package the Inn was offering. Little did we know it was also the 100th anniversary of the Inn.
The rooms are stunning, comfortable, and quiet. The service all around is impeccable. The breakfast, which was included in the package, was scrumptious. Special amenities like robes and slippers, a night cap of Kaluha made it special. You are walking distance from the historic area.
We were excited to return to the Colonial Houses, but unfortunately, we left disappointed and would not recommend staying here.
Historic lodging should mean charm and character—not broken air conditioning, torn carpeting, stained and damaged furniture, nonfunctioning lights, and rock-hard beds. It's absolutely possible to preserve the historic appeal while ensuring the accommodations are clean, comfortable, and in good working order, especially considering the premium price.
Also, be prepared for numerous additional taxes and fees, including a $30-per-day Colonial House stay fee, which makes the overall value even harder to justify.
The room and location were excellent!
Nothing
I loved the location. It was fantastic.
The ants in the bed that bit me, the fact that the tub would not fill up, the fact we had to find toilet paper and the fact we requested a fan but never received it and lastly the fact my husband who is a disabled veteran did not get the request of a lower floor due to the steps it was disappointing.
Remarkably satisfactory and affordable! Our lovely, comfortable room was located on one of the historic taverns along the main, historic street where we could conveniently return for breaks between hours of exploring the historic town and museums.
Being able to walk out of Tavern right into Historic Williamsburg.
Parking was limited/tight for Tavern, not idea for larger vehicles.
The Inn is a wonderful place to stay when taking in Historic Williamsburg. Close to everything, beautifully decorated, spacious rooms and baths - I can’t say enough good things. Have breakfast - it’s delicious!! This was our second stay and we plan to visit again in the fall.
The room was charming and made us feel like we had stepped back in time. We loved being able to walk right out the door and into the heart of Colonial Williamsburg.
There was nothing to dislike.
This is the best experience for solo travelers who want to meet new friends. You MUST stop at the concierge desk for the best connection to all the fabulous services: the spa (reasonable and beautiful), the pools, the gym, the restaurant, and all sorts of reasonably priced events in the area.
Our room was nice and comfortable and the proximity to the Colonial Williamsburg attraction was perfect.
Wonderful staff and beautiful property
The bar closed too early.
The room was great, made you feel like you were back in time. We enjoyed it very much.
