This is a really nice hotel, and I genuinely enjoy staying here whenever I’m in Williamsburg. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is the lack of food options.
For a hotel at this level, it’s surprising that there’s no room service. There’s also nowhere to get food after about 9 PM other than DoorDash, and the bar closes fairly early as well. I’m not sure whether this is due to staffing issues or something else, but it’s frustrating given how high-end the property otherwise is.
The amenities are great, the staff is professional, and the hotel itself is beautiful. But after a long day at a conference, it’s disappointing to have no on-site option to grab even a simple meal, sandwich, or snack. There isn’t even a small market or grab-and-go area. While the Lodge next door offers food, this property has nothing available after around 8:30 or 9 PM.
It’s a great hotel overall, but the complete lack of food and drink options late in the evening really holds it back.
I’ve been staying at the Williamsburg Inn for years and it’s always been special. The staff are exceptional and rooms are lovely. But now they’ve changed the toiletries from Penhaligan, which were a special part of the experience, to their own in-house toiletries line.
Not so special anymore!!!
Bring back Penhaligon toiletries and make it special again.
The Williamsburg Inn may be one of the last but we found that it was a superb example of old-Virginia hospitality. Nothing was left to chance for our accommodations, and it is truly an inspired gateway to Colonial Williamsburg.
Came for the grand illumination - which was magical. Only stayed at the Inn for convenience. They offered little welcoming service or help with dining reservations & activities. If you wait til you get there, it’s too late. Don’t eat at the restaurant. Still recovering from food poisoning there. No follow up as of yet. Not surprised - we came here with our family a few years ago for Thanksgiving & waited two hours for our dinner reservation - still waiting for that follow up - ha. Rooms were nice but be prepared for a ridiculously long walk to your room. Stay here for convenience not the service you would expect.
Such a wonderful experience staying at the Williamsburg Inn over Christmas! The location was ideal, which is available year round. However the ambiance and decor at Christmas made for the most magical experience, outside and inside. It was below 20° for the majority of our stay, drizzling rain one day as well, and being able to return to the Inn for a long soak in the massive bathtub was almost crucial and imperative. If I am fortunate to return one day at Christmas time, I would love to upgrade to a room with fireplace. However, the heating and cooling system was fast and efficient in its own. We discovered a happy accident when we returned one evening and had not put any form of “do not disturb” on our door. Not only did we have turn down service while away, but also a beautiful keepsake postcard with a Jefferson quote and sketch, and a mini bottle of Disaronno with glasses for a nightcap. Service was this way across the Inn, taverns, and grounds of Colonial Williamsburg in general.
I broke my ankle in three places a couple of weeks before our trip. We went anyway, and were initially staying in a hotel in the family without an ADA compliant room. My knee scooter broke, and the best option was to upgrade to the williamsburg inn in the ADA compliant room. We were treated like royalty. The folks here really made our stay.
For example, I didn't bring a cast cover cause I didn't plan to be in an ADA room - but once we were for the long weekend - I could shower!! I asked where we could find a drug store to buy a trashbag, and the staff hunted down in the hotel giant trash bags that would do the trick and insisted on giving me two just in case I wanted to take another shower (which I did!).
The dinner at the Williamsburg Inn was particularly delicious, and I'd go as far as to say the best gluten free bread of my life (despite a strong rival in New York City).
The room itself was gorgeous.
This is our favorite hotel anywhere. Lovely, gracious and friendly. Gorgeous, inside and out with superb service. A two-minute walk from the Restored Area. In season, the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course is wonderful.
We return again & again to this wonderful, welcoming hotel. It is in our top five worldwide! The food quality & presentation are excellent, the guest suites pristine, & the staff are absolutely the best!!
Wonderful experience overall. Little issues were quickly resolved. The dining room's breakfast menu is a little lacking in options for people that don't eat eggs or are vegetarians.
I really wanted to like this place. We dined at the restaurant. The menu and food preparation was pedestrian. We had the filet mignon. The sauce was loaded with vinegar. Yuch!! Not what you want with a red wine. I’ve had salad dressings with less vinegar and don’t drink red wine with my salads. And speaking of the wines, their markup is extraordinary. I’ll accept a 100% markup which is standard these days in most restaurants. Their markup was 400%. $40 wines were $160. OK so we want wine with dinner. We found 1 and only 1 wine at a 300% markup. We ordered it and out came the wine glasses. If you charge that amount for wine I want a decent wine glass. Nada. Asked for better and our poor staff person said they’ll check the basement. Out came glasses that made the original choice superb. We complained and voila the manager found real wine glasses to serve with our wine. Surprise!!! We will not be back. Save your money. Yes lots to save. Don’t go. Ever.
Always go to the Restoration Bar at the Inn, Food and service beyond first class and professional. We enjoy our time with Maria and have for many years. Stop by and see for yourself.
We booked a bed and breakfast package through Colonial Williamsburg reservations which meant we prepaid for 2 mornings of breakfast. Be warned, you NEED to book breakfast reservations! We were not informed either at booking or check-in that reservations are recommended for breakfast at the Williamsburg Inn. When we arrived Saturday morning we had no issues and the food was delicious. However, Sunday was an entirely different story. We waited over a hour while both reservations and take out came and went and after going and talking to the host a second time, she felt so bad that she seated us a few minutes later. In total I think we waited an hour and 15 minutes to be seated. Why they did not tell us to book our breakfast reservation when we booked the package is beyond my understanding as I have had to do this with other hotels. They also did not note whether or not the waitstaff gratuity was included in the package, it is. I am thankful that we had the time to wait today, but please, do better CW reservations and Williamsburg Inn, so others don’t have this experience.
We had breakfast twice in the terrace room during our visit. The food is overpriced, served lukewarm, and nothing special at all. Our waiter Stephan was brusque and inappropriate. Not a pleasant way to start the day.
Room was amazing! Food and service was average at Terrace for the price we paid. Over $60 per breakfast for toast and eggs; too much. Plus ran out of coffee and water twice. No one checked. Had to flag down a person. Walk 10m, explore. and get breakfast elsewhere.
I was given a room with no heat. None! They spent 6 hours trying to fix it (they claim) only to not be able to fix it. I received space heaters to heat a suite. I paid $800 for a suite with no heat - just space heaters. The worse part was that the hotel did not care. They offered me $200 for my inconvenience - which I still
Have not received.
This was a stressful visit because of how we were treated.
This was a bucket list item and it was well worth the wait. Our room on the 3rd floor has beautiful views, the room was spacious and well designed. I loved the comfy robes and the nightly turndown service.
The staff were so kind, and the convenience of the location was just great.
We truly enjoyed our four nights and hope to repeat this sooner than later.
This place was amazing. My husband and I enjoyed our stay. We loved the turndown service.Everyone was accommodating and was eager to assist us. The rooms were cozy comfortable the bed slept very well. I do have one small concern, and I think this establishment needs to know this.. you do have a problem with japanese ladybug beatles, they are in the rooms. They are not your usual ladybugs. These are an invasive species and they can bite.
They get in through the old style windows.Just make sure that they are checked and cleaned regularly.Otherwise this was an awesome place.
Ambiance and decor. Staff was very nice
Overpriced breakfast. Nice room but, the overall cost per night is very expensive.
