Expensive, but worth it IMHO to stay in an historic home and be able to park on site, walk out at night in colonial Williamsburg, dine by candlelight at the King Arms Tavern, attend a witch trial in the capitol, and use the facilities at the Inn and spa. We were upgraded to the Bracken executive house and it was outstanding. The whole family loved it.

The Williamsburg in is a traditional superior hotel in colonial Williamsburg. The majestic entrance, with a reflecting pool, a circular driveway and well-manicured gardens makes your arrival special. Service is excellent, from the doormen, through the front desk, housekeeping and service at the restaurant and bar. Our room (a Junior Suite) was spacious, nicely furnished with period pieces, had excellent climate control and plenty of amenities. The updated bathroom was beautiful and quite functional, except for the fact that the sink was so high it was hard to wash your face.
Parking and valet parking are easy and flawless and the concierge is quite helpful. The restaurant offers classical dishes (we only patronized it for breakfast) and the bar is elegant, with full and elegant service.
Lovely home, wonderful experience. The staff is amazing! The guides are knowledgable. The spa was fantastic. The Decorative arts and new archaeology museum are really wonderful. We will be back.
worst time yet. we go every year- the same week for our anniversary. Now they charge for everything! Parking, microwave. Hardly any tours- all self guided. Many events are canceled with no notice or reason. No AC in the room for 3 days- room at 80 degrees and outside temps in the high 80s. No air moving at all in the room. Curtains in the Brickhouse tavern in shreds even after recent "renovation". Dirty tissue box in bathroom- looked like never wiped off in its life.
This is the most fantastic hotel stay we have had ever! The service is fantastic. From the moment we checked in as well as during the stay and in the dining room, these are the most wonderful and happy staff we’ve ever encountered.
Everything in the hotel is pristine despite it being the hundredth anniversary. There’s not a cobweb to be seen and everything is up-to-date. The maid Services are exceptional and they return in the evening with chocolates and little bottles of liquor, and prepare your bed for sleeping. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return
Staying at the Colonial House was an amazing experience, where you are just steps away from the action of Colonial Williamsburg. We parked our car and didn't move it until the day we checked out. As a bonus, parking is right behind the house (Market Street Tavern where we stayed), and led us through a garden.
There are several doors into the house, but we took the one to the far left up a ramp, not knowing the big door at the end of the walkway would have led us directly to the stairs. The stairs are a bit narrow, so we were happy we didn't have any larger suitcases to carry up to the room.
As a note, the stairs creaked with every step you took, plus in your room, the floors creaked no matter how soft you walked. I was glad we ended up on the second floor. The room is opened with a key, and if you opt to get a second key, you will be liable for a $250 fee if you lose it.
The room was awash with sunlight from the multiple windows, which was quite pleasant. The was enough room to move around in, however not a lot of places to place your suitcases. We made do with a few chairs in the room.
The room did have the modern conveniences of tv, mini fridge, temperature control, and wifi.
Our bathroom was nice, with individual shampoo, conditioner. The tub/shower however was quite interesting. The shower head was on the sloping ceiling and hung in the middle of the tub. You would have to be a very short person to use it easily. I'm not short so I had a problem. Each shower was a folding process to get in and out of the tub to shower, and the tub drained so quickly with the plug set, taking a bath was out of the question.
All in all it was a wonderful stay at the Market Street Tavern and it is a place that we would stay at again.
Stayed in the Ewing Shop. Very conveniently located and the room was great. On street directly behind historic area which makes for an easy walk.
We really enjoyed the overall experience and the location—it was outstanding and made it easy to walk and fully enjoy the historic area. That was definitely the highlight of the stay.
Breakfast was a bit challenging. There weren’t many early options available on property, and we found ourselves needing to drive into town. There also seemed to be a gap late morning (around 10–12) when many places were closed or not serving, which made planning meals a little difficult.
The room itself was comfortable, but there were a few minor issues: only half a roll of toilet paper upon arrival, a few silverfish in the room, and housekeeping knocking at 8:45 a.m., which felt a bit early. te.
What could have been better would be earlier and more consistent breakfast options, a quick grab-and-go offering, improved room readiness checks, and a smoother booking experience
Really neat to stay right in the midst of Colonial Williamsburg in a period house. Appreciated the friendliness of Reception and the call to let us know our room was ready. Frances was very efficient and professional!
Reception (to the left) inside the lobby of the Williamsburg Inn is not marked. It is off to the left and guests who knew what they were doing rushed right passed me and I would up waiting a bit. A sign would be beneficial, like the Concierge on the other side.
Stayed in historic home with no hot water, limited coffee and services. NO remedy after repeated requests. Was promised a refund at checkout yet having received nor heard anything after 6 days.
The Inn is beautiful. Location is Fantastic! It is so convenient to be able to walk to anywhere you want to go in Colonial Williamsburg from this location. Service is top notch. Bed turned down, shades drawn. Chocolates and liqueur left on your bed. Yes please! This is NOT your average Hampton Inn. Don’t let the price deter you. It’s worth it.
The hotel is outstanding. The rooms are huge with lots of amenities. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We truly enjoyed our visit, but it is very expensive. We tried the restaurant for a dinner and a breakfast. Food was good, but very overpriced.
This is our second time in three years staying in the colonial houses at the Williamsburg Inn. For our family, the houses offer the perfect mix of space, historic charm with modern amenities, and hotel accommodations. The location, being right in historic Williamsburg, is perfect. I highly recommend as a place to stay if you’re planning a Williamsburg VA visit.
Very close to Taverns and historical area.
I can’t think of anything.
Outstanding the history the people the food the accommodations.Just inspiring.Hope to go back again.
I froze the first night as HVAC did not work. At one point upon return the maid had left the room door wide open with an unlocked exterior door. Room itself was nice & a good experience. Bed very comfortable.
The line to register was longer than 45 minutes, and the people helping were not helpful or kind. The place is crowded, the maintenance of the rooms is poor, and the place in general is not well-kept or clean. We would never want to stay there again.
I wanted to have the experience of staying in a historical property, but read some reviews that described them as lacking in modern comforts. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is spotless, and the room is fully climate controlled, with a TV, coffee maker, and micro fridge provided, which went beyond my expectations. It was very convenient to be right on the Colonial Williamsburg property, and there was no trouble finding good parking. We did have a couple of maintenance issues in the rooms, but the staff resolved them quickly and courteously and we received bill credits for both.
Location couldn’t have been better, right in the heart of it
