Stay away from the Graduate
Pros:

It has been a long time since I've had such a horrible experience at a hotel. It's as if we were in a Third World country..
First morning we woke up at 7 AM and asked for coffee. They said the hotel was out of coffee completely out of coffee on a Tuesday..
We came back from breakfast in our room. Door was wide open because the maids forgot to close it leaving exposed to anything being stolen.
We tried to get our car and it took 45 minutes for them to get us our car.
My wife went to the bathroom and the toilet broke.
The electricity in our room and only our room went out. It took them two days to clean our room.
When they came to clean the room, they forgot to leave towels.
It took another day for them to get us the towels.
This is a horrific place. The valet is overpriced and under deliveries.
The only bright spot is one of the front desk, workers named Zeb. He bent over backwards, trying to fix them any problems, but they deeper than anything he could fix.
It seems like a fancy place to stay, but it's horrible. It's costly it's uncomfortable. It's loud and you have to wait for everything.
Stay away.

Good location but lobby is very crowded with furniture.
Pros:

Did not have breakfast here.

Cons:

I left a nightdress; called the hotel; was referred to a third party iloststuff.com and never heard from third-party. I called the hotel a week later; they said they would call back after checking, but I never heard from them again.

Maintenance Issues & Uncomfortable Stay
Pros:

I stayed at this hotel for two nights during a business trip, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The property felt dark and uncomfortably cold throughout my stay. When I arrived, my room was only 63°F, and despite contacting the front desk, the temperature never rose above 66°F.

The bathroom also needed attention. There was visible mildew or mold where the shower floor and wall tiles met, and it appeared to be in need of a thorough cleaning. The most frustrating issue was the toilet, which ran continuously. After I reported it, maintenance responded quickly and replaced the flapper and diaphragm, but the problem persisted. I informed the front desk again, yet the issue was never fully resolved. I had to shut off the water valve each night just to avoid the constant noise while trying to sleep. While I appreciate the prompt initial response from maintenance, this property falls short of the standard I typically expect from a Hilton. The hotel would benefit from some much-needed improvements and better attention to maintenance issues.

Nice stay
Pros:

Check in was fast and the front desk agent was very nice. We stayed on the 14th floor. Room and bathroom was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing we didn’t like was the horrible valet service. It’s $40 per night and it takes 30 minutes to get your vehicle. Location was great.

Very unsettling - never use the hotel again.
Pros:

Charging a service fee for Valet Parking tip is Unconscionable. I was not even allowed the option to by pass this function. My car was taken hostage and I had to pay the fee for the tip before I conclude the online car retrieval process .
For this reason alone I will never use this hotel or any other hotels that forces me to pay a fee for tipping the valet.
I rather pay this fee to the staff and not a corporation.

Cons:

Forcing customers to pay a fee for valet tip. I understand charges for parking and I am very happy to tip the valet. Yet feel it is a highway rubbery to force clients to pay a fee for online tipping. The process doesn't allow one to bypass the fee process. In other words I was forced to pay a fee that I never agreed upon when I checked into the hotel. I feel this illegal and immoral practice.

Pros:

Room was clean, roomy and mostly well-furnished; bathroom has been updated.

Cons:

Desk chair was uncomfortable and below the quality of the rest of the furniture. (I have back pain, and desk chair quality may matter more to me than to others.) Room temp seemed to be uninfluenced by the thermostat setting.

Great place for stay if family in hospital at U of M.
Pros:

We used the Graduate for housing while I was in need of surgery at a U of M hospital. We were more than 2 hours from home, so my husband needed a hotel for the stay. While Michigan Medicine does have their own Med Inn, it’s very basic, small, and was full, for the week we needed a place to stay. My husband was able to walk each day from the Graduate to the Kahn Pavillion hospital on the medical campus where I was housed, with ease. It was a 12 minute walk and he enjoyed the exercise from sitting all day in hospital. Another tip: parking is actually cheaper to leave your car overnight at hospital ramp and walk back and forth than it is to pay for Graduate’s valet only parking. While we were there, there was significant road construction near the new hospital so parking in P5 for the Pavillion hospital was actually free. Your timing for that may not work and the other hospital parking structures were charging, but still less expensive to keep car parked at hospital for 24 hour periods. Husband had a great bed, and loved his dinners there nightly in the restaurant bar when he’d leave me for the evening. If you aren’t aware, Michigan Medical Accommodations, can make the reservation for you, at a significant discount, and there was no penalty for checking out earlier than we had originally planned for, when I was released earlier than expected. It’s a wonderfully quirky decor all designed to look like school decor. Our two bedroom Queen room also housed a mini fridge in the card catalogue styled dresser- perfect for staying a longer visit. Walking distance within a block to Target, CVS, multiple restaurants and ice cream shops.

Wonderful Graduation Spirit, Poor Value for Money
Pros:

We stayed at the Graduate Hotel in Ann Arbor for 3 nights during our daughter’s graduation from the University of Michigan.

The location was excellent and truly hard to beat for commencement weekend. The decor was charming and very much in the spirit of Ann Arbor and university life, and the staff’s enthusiasm for the graduates was genuinely touching. The hotel even provided a shuttle bus to the stadium for the first commencement ceremony, and upon returning, staff welcomed graduates with cheering and pom-poms, which created a very festive and memorable atmosphere.

However, there were several disappointing aspects to our stay.

While I understand that hotel rates increase during graduation weekend, the pricing felt excessive, with rates seemingly several times higher than normal dates before and after graduation. Unfortunately, the overall quality and service did not justify such extreme pricing.

The rooms and common areas felt quite basic, and housekeeping was inconsistent. On some days, even the trash bins were not emptied.

Communication through the Expedia platform was also very poor. I had sent messages in advance regarding our stay and never received a reply.

Additionally, because we were arriving on a long international flight from Europe, I had requested an earlier check-in. Not only was early check-in unavailable, but our room was not even ready at the official check-in time of 4:00 PM. We eventually left the hotel around 5:15 PM while still waiting for the room and only returned around 7:30 PM to finally check in.

Given the circumstances and the nature of graduation weekend, I believe the hotel could have handled guest communication and room prioritization more thoughtfully, especially for international travelers.

Overall, the experience was mixed: an outstanding location and warm graduation atmosphere, but disappointing service and poor value for the price paid.

I love this hotel! I had a king high floor room.
Pros:

I love this hotel. I will recommend it to everyone. I have no idea why there were poor reviews, my room was super clean and the staff is very attentive and friendly. My view is stunning. The temperature was perfect with my own thermostat. This hotel is close to everything and I felt very safe galavanting all over solo for the past two days. This hotel is what a hotel is supposed to be like. Timeless, elegant, attentive staff, beautiful decor, restaurant and coffee in the building, valet parking—- all the yes.
