Our experience one-night at the Kimpton Journeyman was perfect. We've stayed at a handful of Kimptons around the US (and even one in Paris) so we dig the overall modern-boutique vibe, generally hopping atmosphere, and, of course, the signature complimentary wine hour!
We got all of that during our one-night stay. It's perfectly situated in the Historic Third Ward with easy walking access to anywhere you'd want to go in that part of Milwaukee.
Our room was nice on a high floor with a decent view of the surrounding buildings.
Everyone at wine-hour was friendly and seemed happy to see us. I enjoyed the wine...the snacks part may have been a little less in terms of offerings from what we experienced elsewhere, but halfway through my glass of wine I'm pretty sure I didn't care...it was a pre-dinner situation anyway.)
There was always a lot of people and energy in the lobby throughout our stay. They have a very popular roof-top bar which attracts lots of people from outside of the hotel.
We loved it here and would definitely stay again!
If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card definitely book here through them! We had a total of $160 to use towards their amenities. We had a $30/pp breakfast credit at their restaurant as well as an additional $100 credit to use on anything they offer. We used it towards dinner and valet parking. The staff was amazing and so kind! Our valet asked why we were staying and we told him we had an anniversary dinner reservation nearby and when we got back to our room later, there was a complimentary bottle of champagne and fruits and chocolates for us! The room was also very nice and clean. Will definitely be coming back!
Ok— HUGE THANKS to Angel and David who were so wonderful and helpful with my stay— thank you. Tre Rivali is excellent and Chef deserves some gratitude. All the staff here is smiling, friendly, over accommodating. Big Hugs to all you all.
We had a very pleasant experience staying a night in this hotel to visit Milwaukee and attend a baseball game. We had a small child with us and everything went smoothly.
Pros:
- Extremely friendly staff. They were super welcoming and helpful.
- Convenient location, walkable to multiple restaurants and stores
- Quiet at night, didn't hear a peep.
- Very spacious and modern bathroom
- Noon checkout. I love the extra hour.
- Nice view from the room.
Cons:
- Never love carpet in a hotel, I feel like it ages it a bit, but it felt clean.
- In general the room feels a little bit dated, but it's nothing extreme.
Wonderful location, great staff, beautiful hotel. We loved our stay here. Don’t miss the roof deck!
We really liked the brunch in the morning. No need to stress at the breakfast table. We also liked the wine reception in the late afternoon. The location is excellent, right in the Third Ward. Lots to do and great shopping, theater, music festivals, and food places around. We parked around the corner in the parking place, easy and in walking distance to the hotel.
Nothing!
BEST HOTEL IN MILWAUKEE HANDS DOWN!!!! It has great amenities and I highly recommend heading to the bar in the rooftop for a nice drink. The staff is just wonderful, shout out to Naudia at the front desk for helping me with anything I needed. Additionally the valet team, specifically Jared, keelon, and Adam made the whole process so easy and straightforward. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking to stay in mke!
Super cute and clean property, very dog friendly, good location.
The service at the Kimpton Journeyman was outstanding, all of the staff members treated our dog like he was the VIP. The rooms are very well kept and decorated beautifully!

Very comfortable large room. Staff are excellent everyone smiles even the valet parkers. Love the decor.
Parking is easily available close by at much lower prices than the valet.
Could not fault
I’ve always dreaded my trips to Milwaukee. I grew up in the western burbs, and visiting always brought on some PTSD. Looking back, a lot of it had to do with staying out in Brookfield! Earlier this year, I decided to try something different with my visit, and stay at a hotel that I’ve always wanted to stay at - the Kimpton Journeyman. When I travel with my adult stepson w special needs, it’s imperative that we have connecting rooms. I emailed the property prior to booking, and Alexis immediately responded. She is amazing, and was so understanding with our needs. Thus, she made sure we were assigned connecting rooms. That alone will guarantee that I will be a repeat guest.
Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by Louis, who introduced himself and took care of our bags. Louis is an exceptional guy and his hospitality really makes you want to return to the property. Check in was a breeze. We had connecting basic rooms for our first visit. For a basic room, we were quite impressed with the amount of space, which is perfect for a couple. The rooms kind of have the cool vintage feel to them. I wouldn’t consider them on the luxury end of the spectrum, but they sure are comfortable and light years better than what’s offered in Milwaukee. Best off, the beds are super supportive and comfortable. So comfortable that I sleep so much better at the Journeyman than most of the properties I’ve visited in recent time, and I do travel a ton. Also, I love that they have a true central HVAC system and not individual units and that I can set the temperature to 65 degrees, even in the winter.
On a subsequent visit, we stayed in a spa suite, which definitely was a treat!
The food and beverage program is excellent at the Journeyman. The selection during weekend brunch at Tre Rivali is fantastic, and the portions are definitely Milwaukee (enormous)! I particularly love the basmati bowls offered. Dinner too was equally impressive. Their humus topped with lamb rivaled one of my favorite ones in LA. The food is so good at Tre Rivali that I would dine here even if I wasn't staying at the Journeyman. Service in the dining room was also excellent. Thank you, Sean and Janet, for being awesome! The only gripe I have with their F&B program is the lack of room service on Sundays and limited menu at the bar also on Sundays.
The location of the property cannot be beat. Right outside the door, you have so many great dining and more importantly coffee options. Check out Discourse Coffee nearby to really bring out the coffee geek in you! There are also some really great vintage and resale shops in the neighborhood where you can find some gems at prices that would be 20x less than you would find in Brooklyn or LA. Given the location, you might hear some noise at night during the weekend from the late night bar crowd outside, but it never lasts too long.
In the past year, I've had some atrocious stays at Rosewoods and at a Mandarin Oriental. Their ultimate shortcomings came back to a lack of communication and follow through from their end. Service is what makes or breaks a property for me. This is where the Journeyman excels, and I really appreciate what the team does to make our stays really carefree and enjoyable. Again, thanks to Alexis, Louis, and Jennifer up front for everything! The family looks forward to our upcoming stay in a month!
Staff was generous with their time, excellent in their recommendations and responsive within the hotel. Property was a delight. We were able to be upgraded through our IHG status which made our stay delightful for my wife and daughter.
Hotel atmosphere was energetic. People coming and going to the roof top lounge, lobby pool table or managers reception. Tre Rivali, the onsite restaurant was great for both breakfast and late night drinks. With Ben & Jerry’s across the street, my daughter was delighted.
Excellent customer service very friendly staff!
Nikolas really stood out as he was not only efficient but he took a minute to ask how my day was going. He made me feel great!
