The Journeyman is an AWESOME hotel!! We loved everything about it! The room was beautiful and very clean. The food at both restaurants was great-especially the cheese curds. :) The staff was exceptional and gracious. One of our favorite Kimptons!
Bev Milam and Louis Cusimano
My recent stay at The Kimpton Journeyman started off promising with excellent pre-arrival communication. I reached out via email before my visit, and the team was responsive and accommodating. As a top-tier IHG member, I was delighted to receive an incredible suite upgrade, which was a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately, the positive momentum ended there.
At check-in, the front desk experience felt impersonal and transactional. There was no acknowledgment of IHG status, no recognition of the milestone birthdays we were celebrating (the very reason for our stay), and no note, waters, or welcome amenity waiting in the room—small but meaningful details that Kimpton typically does so well. I had chosen to celebrate this special occasion at Kimpton precisely because of the brand’s reputation for warmth and personal touches, but sadly, it didn’t feel like much of a celebration.
We had hoped to kick off the afternoon by relaxing with a drink at the hotel’s restaurant or rooftop bar, but around 2 p.m. we were told they weren’t serving at Tre Rivali—apparently because the person who makes drinks was on break. The Outsider was closed. It was disappointing, especially since we were eager to spend time (and money) enjoying the property. Even just being able to order a glass of wine or beer would have made a difference, but the lack of hospitality in that interaction was surprising and inconsistent with Kimpton’s usual service standards.
To end the stay, valet service was another letdown. We texted for our car at 5 a.m., and it took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. There was only one other guest waiting, so the delay felt excessive. For $45 in overnight parking—especially for a stay under 14 hours—that kind of wait is hard to justify.
Overall, while I appreciated the upgrade and pre-stay communication, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to Kimpton’s typically exceptional brand promise. I truly wanted to make this a celebratory start to a birthday getaway, but instead it felt forgettable. I hope this property can refocus on the small touches and genuine hospitality that make Kimpton so special. Location is great to the airport and to walk around town though.
The hotel is beautiful. Our room was spacious and lovely! Jared and Keelon are fantastic valets. I had left my phone in the car and we were racing to make it to a wedding. They ran and grabbed my phone for me and we made it to the wedding in time.
Location and frontdesk staff
Rooms were not clean and even after telling it, bath tub was clean but I think they do not have a vaccun cleaner.
No coffe maker in room even it was confirmed with booking - comment: that is not standard. Supplied one and was not cleaned/replenished next day. Upon complaint, it was removed. Again to frontdesk and a new one was brought to room, but now NOT Nespresso, instead Chefwave-something with low quality coffee.
Never heard anything from GM, even front desk staff reported it and I trust them
Price/Performance ratio very bad an not worth $300+ per night.
Received great customer service from Z from 3rd shift! She greeted us with a welcoming smile and made sure we went back to our room with everything we needed! 5 stars!
Great location. Good feel.
Third ward rocks! We walked to the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Milwaukee is a great place to visit and this hotel was wonderful. Mathew was such a great help to us on places to visit and everything about the hotel. He went above and beyond for us. He is a great man. We will be back someday.
There was nothing I did not like.
We love this hotel for its location. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The rooms are pricey, so it was a surprise to find bottles of water for purchase in our room rather than complimentary. I have stayed at lesser hotels that offer free bottles of water in the room.
Came to the Journeyman on business and will definitely come back. It Was a lovely stay and very helpful valet service. Thank you Brennon for helping me with my car!
Will be back!
The hotel was really a disappointment. It is highly overrated and not worth the exorbitant rate we were charged. The room was small and a bit cramped. The bathroom was ordinary, at best and although generally clean, there was brown scum around the base of the glass shower/tub enclosure. The “mood” lighting in the bathroom was impossible for putting on makeup. The service at the front desk was superficially polite, but indifferent when assistance was requested. The cost of parking was extremely high, even for the downtown area. The best part were the valet parking attendants, who were friendly and great.
Loved this hotel in the Third Ward of Milwaukee. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We enjoyed complimentary happy hour before walking around the area. Finished the evening at the rooftop bar.
There is construction around the building. I was on the 7th floor and before 7am was awoken to loud construction that did not cease until I checked out around 11am. Plan was to sleep in due to a late evening today for a concert.
Great hotel with exceptional customer service.
The staff was so friendly and professional. Front desk was awesome, the rooms were great. The bar on the roof was spectacular!
I also used the valet service. All of them were awesome.
I must say though, the young man Eugene was spectacular and inspiring. Even though He was wearing a boot and even though he tried to hide it was obviously in pain, He was very professional and helpful. He still did his job and did it well and even helped load up our bags, which I felt bad for but he insisted. He encouraged me in a way. He refused to allow anything to stop Him from moving forward. Those were his words to me and he showed it by his actions. And he did it all with a smile and class! This guy is amazing! He truly is an inspiration. He surely was to me!
