Central location, was good for walks and visiting tourist attractions. The pub side was good, great atmosphere.
The breakfast staff were rude and unhelpful. So much so you didn't feel comfortable asking for more orange juice or more toast. They took ages to serve some of our guests and had forgotten to serve 2 of them. I have worked in a customer service environment so I understand what makes it good. Things like answering back, when we asked for more toast we were told they had served us enough. We booked 9 rooms and many of us felt as if we were an inconvenience to the breakfast waiting staff. They also didn't clear our tables in a timely fashion and I was left to move dirty plates and cups to another table to make room. The staff definitely need training in how to look after customers. Pretty poor show. I would stay at the Black Swan again poles apart in terms of customer service.
The evening staff, when asked for a drink at 11.15, were told, no, I have a fxxxxing home to go to. I mean, really.
Great location
Curtain hanging off light coming through window and bottom of the door, pillows very uncomfortable, small room as two adults and a dog, didn’t eat in hotel as too expensive
Clean and comfortable
Lovely property good facilities and location. Staff super friendly n helpful. Food was very good both times we ate in there .
Nothing
Nice setting and staff helpful
No car park
Really lovely room, friendly staff and nice food
Very hard to park at the hotel, the car park was tiny and shut off for 2 days so just be aware of this, although later in the day you can park in side roads or pay to park in the square
Lovely clean hotel and room. Staff really friendly, food excellent and great location on main square
nothing
LOVELY HOTEL ,GREAT WELCOMING STAFF ,FOOD WAS GREAT AND COSY BAR TO RELAX IN . GREAT STAY FOR BUSINESS ,WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK
The rooms were so cosy and comfortable, the facilities were very good. The radio in the room playing classical music is a lovely touch and there are so many great places to explore in and around Helmsley. Along with this, the restaurant is lovely with good food and all the staff were very nice and helpful.
Nothing 😊
This is a lovely old hotel overlooking the market place. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We ate two nights in the restaurant and it was very good - and large portions also breakfast was good.
The parking situation wasn't great - having been there before expected a large car park unfortunately this has been taken away so we had to park on the road.
Location and comfort
Poor welcome, no parking for guests, no usable WiFi. Poor cleanliness in bathroom. Limited breakfast choice. Some rude staff.
Centre of Helmsley
Room 21 terrible drain smell in bathroom
All the staff were great, funny polite and helpful.
Food was nice.
We were given rooms in the cottage at the back. 33 and 32. My wife and I had no33.
The room was tired. Chipped, and old looking furniture.
The room had cobwebs in it. Above and to the right of the TV, above the bath, behind the entrance door.
The bathroom was very tired with mouldy build up around the shower base, and generally very tired and in need of a make over..
I looked in my friends room no32, similar issues and very poor paint job in the bathroom.
These were described as I think superior rooms but they were not.
There was a lot of noise from directly above room 33, very noisy floor boards and noisy TV. Not sure if this a guest room or staff.
Late on Monday afternoon someone was pressure washing the parking area at the rear doors.
However this had not been finished and left as a wet muddy area.
We all realised on Tues morning we had walked through the mud in the dark on returning to our rooms on Monday evening!!!!!!
All the staff were encountered were excellent.
We have stayed at the feathers previously in one of the rooms in the main building with none of the issues as mentioned for room 32 and 33.
