Muntri Grove is a beautifully restored heritage building just off Muntri Street in George Town. It is a great location to explore the UNESCO heritage precinct, street art, trendy coffee shops, street food, bars and restaurants. Muntri Grove provides a quiet oasis during the day, note I said 'day'. The rooms amenities are adequate for the price point, rooms are well kept and clean with rooms cleaned before lunch. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The hotel represents value for money.
Unfortunately, thanks to the the sonic boom of the night club music bouncing off the windows in our downstairs room until 3am every night of the week. I was unable to get a decent night sleep on each of the nights we were there - yes I did try earplugs. For this reason alone, I would not return to Muntri Grove on my next visit to Pinang. I value my sleep too much.
This is at least the 4th time I've stayed here. The time before was 2020 and there have been a few small changes since. What hasn't changed is the friendliness of the staff. Though they were all relatively new everyone was kind and helpful.
What hasn't changed is the hardness of the mattresses or the noise from the nearby nightclubs. They have tried to address the issue but as most of the noise comes through the roof, it's a hard problem to solve.
On arrival you used to get a welcome drink - this has stopped which is a shame, it was a nice touch.
The rooms are large and have everything you need. The hotel is handy for food places which is good as no food is available on the premises. The pool is smallish but great for cooling off.
Utterly delightful stay at this central Penang hotel. Large spacious room, good shower and plenty of space to relax.
This is great place to stay to explore Penang. It is a beautiful building with large, spacious air -conditioned rooms. There is also a swimming pool and the delicious free ice creams are a welcome bonus! The staff are so friendly and helpful. Whilst there is no resturant on site, it is not a problem as there places everywhere to find the amazing Penang food.
You can explore Georgetown on foot, but if the weather is too hot, there is also a great free bus which is a frequent service.
I would definitely recommed Muntri Grove.
No signs on Muntri road pointing to hotel, small lane leading from muntri road down to hotel needs smartening up,open drains gullies need covering.lot of money spent on hotel outside ground/entrance looking good but approach lane needs work
As above.
Excellent old town location, walking distance to many things, hotel slightly hidden. Friendly staff. Nice big spacious room. The extra free ice cream is a nice touch.
The unfortunate proximity to late night bars with loud music and bad singing till 2 am on the weekend. Some little things, safe broken, pool water could use a bit more frequent cleaning.
A very traditional place to stay in central Penang.
Room was good with authentic decor. Pool was a bonus.
Staff were helpful.
Chambre spacieuse, bien décorée, confortable. Bien placé. Très bon accueil
Great heritage style hotel. Very close to every landmark or a short taxi ride. Amazing customer service, room large and with a comfy bed. I stayed in the lower ground . Lovely pool on the first floor where they serve afternoon tea. All was great and a great experience.
Friendly employees who welcomed us warmly at this charming hotel.
We really enjoyed its convenient location & delightful rooms.
Whilst near to nightlife, our sleep was not disturbed.
I would highly recommend.
Great hotel with friendly service overall. The rooms are clean and spacious, and good location and nice atmosphere hidden in the alley. The unfortunate very loud music from the neighborhood adds noise level over the weekend. And the pool could use a little servicing and more filtering system so the water is not murky. Good value. And the added extras like tea and cakes on Friday and Saturday and the free ice cream is a lovely gesture.
As a family of five, we stayed in two double rooms on the upper level near the pool. The communication and booking process prior to our arrival was great, and we found the staff to be helpful and friendly when we arrived.
The rooms were amazing, so big and beautifully decorated. The decor around the hotel was lovely and felt very special. The pool was lovely and often much needed after exploring the city sites.
It’s in a great location, lots of food places nearby including Red Garden, which we ate at a couple of times. Yes there’s music from a nearby venue that you can hear at night but it wasn’t particularly loud and didn’t bother us too much. Light sleepers might feel differently but there’s earplugs on offer.
I definitely recommend this as it is one of the most memorable places I have stayed
This is lovely gem tucked away on a quiet side street with incredibly helpful staff. As a middle aged solo female traveller I felt safe and welcome. I especially loved the tiny pool and fountain surrounded with greenery, making the centre of George Town feel like a private island.
beautiful little heritage hotel well-located in the heart of georgetown. stayed 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it.
rooms: tastefully decorated and spacious. there were separate sleeping and sitting areas, which we appreciated. saw many reviews about the noise situation but we thought it was perfectly fine — there were soundproofing curtains which were very effective, not sure if they're a recent addition.
building: interesting architecture, colonial look with peranakan influences, i personally adored it. not much in the way of amenities but there was a swimming pool that was reasonably well-maintained. exceptionally located near loads of eateries and cafes (try project gelato!)
service: staff was very warm, suffian in particular was very helpful with recommendations. daily housekeeping was great. loads of nice little touches like complimentary ice-creams at the pool, and saw the staff putting up decor for cny too.
all in all, highly recommended if you're looking for a local boutique hotel stay!
