Location
Food was expensive for what it was
Clean and good location
Food very poor quality. Owners not welcoming or respectful to staff. Most expensive hotel on our six day walk with the worst overall standard.
It was reasonably convenient for walking the Pennine Way. The bar area was quite homely.
The rooms were below average and expensive for what they are. The dining room is soulless and the evening meal was poor and overpriced.
Great location for our Pennine Way adventure. Very warm welcome, excellent food.

Easy check in staff were very helpful
Quite expensive
A late booking (9pm) but they were great, reorganised the beds to meet our requirements,
And provided food even though we were late.
Clean bedroom and bathroom, in good.comdition.
There was a feeling of slight incompetence at check-in - the person didn't seem very sure of the booking system. There was nowhere downstairs to relax apart from the dining room, half of which spilled over into a functional back room with no atmosphere. The evening food was good although we waited over 45 minutes but the breakfast was disappointimg. Hardly any fruit. Warm milk and a poached egg that did not resemble any poaches egg I have ever seen, being unusually pale and almost yolkless, accompanied by dry toast. Coffee was very weak and stewed on a ring. It.was not replenished. One of us found several hairs in their cooked breakfast. My glass of red wine from an open bottle was cloudy and had obviously been open for some days, if not weeks. On a positive note the bedroom was clean although the beds were very uncomfortable. A bit pricey too.
The owner and his staff were very kind, and helped us out with a transport problem we had.
Very good service.
The hotel was lovely. Very nice with excellent food and serving staff. The hostel/barn across the road was rough. Toilets and shower room were shocking. Especially for £120
Hotel was great but hostel needs work all round and that’s not been fussy . I appreciate it’s a hostel but still not good enough
This is a modern restaurant with rooms. It is well located for the Pennine Way. Lovely breakfast, freshly cooked and hot - good choice. Make sure to book a table in advance if you’d like dinner.
My room was above the bar and there was some noise from below. The room was nicely decorated but lacked character. A chair would’ve been useful indeed there was plenty of room for an armchair or two. The window blind gave some privacy from onlookers on the road, but really there needed to be Curtains or a blackout blind. This would’ve given the room the extra special feeling it needed for the price.
The blankets on the bed are a bit too narrow
Goede locatie dichtbij het roman army museum. Goed restaurant. Ontbijt was fijn.
Prijs was de hoogste van alle hotels in onze hike, terwijl het hotel niet de beste was. Prijs is duidelijk op de hikes gebaseerd dat is jammer. Alsnog wel een aanrader!
Nice dinner and breakfast.
