Beautiful location, comfortable hotel and welcoming staff.
Genuinely dog-friendly. We had a very relaxing stay.
Lovely hotel friendly staff
Nothing
A hotel like a castle with beautiful view and friendly staff
Lovely experience with great food and friendly staff. Our two dogs were made very welcome too!
Great location with nice garden grounds. Unfortunately for us we didn't get chance to explore that because of the weather. Sure it would have made a difference if it had been clear or sunny. There's also a nice view of the lake which we couldn't appreciate due to the fog. Accommodation is large and has a comfortable lobby and lounge area. Bedroom was sufficient. Good size bed and comfortable. Warm enough. Staff were friendly without being in your face. Breakfast was good.
We had a wooden door in our room separating us from the adjacent room. The problem with that was you could hear everything the neighbours were saying and doing, including their TV, eating their food and sex. So privacy was lacking.
This is by far the most beautiful place we stayed on our trip. This is just gorgeous. We loved our family room for our little one and the ability to walk right outside on the patio.
The staff was nice but not always readily available. There were a few times we had questions and they weren't at the front desk but when we were able to ask them they helped with every request! Food was good!
The most wonderful about this hotel is its location on the bank of lake Windermere. The grounds are truly stunning as is the building, the cosy fires, panelling and grand staircases.
Mostly we enjoyed our stay, although the following points should be noted:
- Parts of the hotel are quite shabby, the reception area feels like a nursing home and the rooms could definitely do with an upgrade!
- Pillows were quite hard and room was too hot.
- A rather rude ;southern) breakfast waitress practically told us off for the dog not being ‘under the table’… I would say they are dog tolerant rather than dog friendly.
We wouldn’t stay there again but some of the staff were absolutely lovely and none of the above really spoiled our stay.
I love the hotel and the staff
The room was shabby, the curtains were torn, the walls were marked and tired, the bathroom door was dirty as was the bath panel.
Everything 👏
Couldn't fault it 👍
The Views, decor, bed, dog friendly, friendly staff, food… all amazing
I didn’t include breakfast in my booking
All staff were friendly and attentive, food was gorgeous, roaring fires were great after a day out and about.
The room we were in had an adjoining door this needs some kind of sound proofing as could hear every word from the people in the next room! Quite annoying!
I was booked into room 5, poor quality of sleep due to doors in the corridor banging throughout the night which vibrated my room door, staff accommodation above my room which sounded like big foot parading across the floor throughout the night, giggles and conversations from room above, I actually got two hours of broken sleep from the night.
I was going to ask for a refund but I was so tired I couldn't face the conversation.
I did comment that it is a lovely hotel, staff couldn't be more helpful, food was wonderful, I really would like to visit again
The hotel was just the kind we like with plenty of character, after reading up on the history we could see some of the beautiful features. The evening meal was excellent, we've never experienced fine dining before, both the food and the service was a credit to your staff. After drinks in the bar ware expertly served by the barman, especially the cocktails. We had a restful night's sleep in comfortable bed and finished off with a very good breakfast. In short we will not hesitate to recommend it to our friends and relatives and will definitely be staying with you again in the future.
There wasn't anything we would complain about.
Nice room
The breakfast waitress was very rude
The bar staff were amazing….one gentleman even went to his room and gave us a can of fanta because the bar didn’t offer this. He didn’t charge us either. So generous. Very dog friendly and saw deer and squirrels in the garden on the way to the lake
.
We had a wonderful overnight break. We booked the romantic escape package which was perfect. The staff were really friendly and professional. Our room was a downstairs room which had doors to a patio area which was lovely. The heating in the room was very efficient, lovely and cosy and could be controlled by a dial on the wall near the radiator. Bathroom was nice with lovely toiletries. Bottled water, jar of sweets, usual tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits alongside an espresso machine. Towels and bedding of super quality and a very comfortable bed. Our package included a cream tea with a glass of Prosecco which we had in the library in front of the window - what an amazing view! We also ordered a toasted sandwich with chips which was lovely and very generous in portion size! We did a lovely walk out of the hotel and up the hill near the Merewood hotel opposite. Lovely views. The grounds should also be explored it’s such a beautiful setting. Our package also included a four course dinner with an amuse-bouche to begin and finished with coffee and chocolate truffles. It was absolutely stunning. The best meal we’ve ever had in the lakes. There’s an extensive Wine list to choose from too. Our package included breakfast in bed and a late checkout which was a real treat! The breakfast was delivered hot and exactly on time! One thing which I do think should be included are bathrobes if you have booked the breakfast in bed otherwise it is a little awkward being in your nightwear as they bring the breakfast in. The only thing overall that I spotted which could be improved is that the library/lounges soft furnishings could do with a refurb some look tired and the cushions by the window have stains/dirty marks on them. The lunch and drinks menus next to the bar are also sticky/have coffee stains on them.
To sum up… We had a wonderful relaxing stay and would love to return one day.
Nothing
