Caretta Hotel

Not for children, water too deep. Beds okay the whole place needs maintenance. Had to request, room to be cleaned, beds to be changed, bins to be emptied. Very expensive for single occupancy so shouldn’t have to ask. People very friendly and laid back.

Super hotel We absolutely adored this hotel. The family atmosphere was wonderful. The dogs were a bonus, so friendly & gentle. Because of this we missed our own dog a little less. Breakfast was delicious. Gorgeous setting. It’s a traditional Turkish hotel. If you want faceless, modern places this is not for you. Yes, a little updating wouldn’t hurt but you are not buying the place. We would return in a shot. 15 mins stroll to town, stunning views. Beautiful location but most of all the wonderful family who run this place. Thank you so much.

Absolutely loved this hotel, if you want an authentic Turkish experience with fabulous staff & breakfasts, not to mention the best welcomes from their gorgeous dogs. Caretta is a great choice. Yes, there could be more maintenance work done around the place but for the time we stayed it didn’t matter at all. We loved it and would return. Thank you all at the Caretta.

The owner of this hotel has a dog which he leaves outside barking and wakes up everyone in the near vicinity every morning at dawn. It also attracts a pack of wild dogs which wait aggressively outside the hotel at night. It’s totally anti-social and dangerous. Don’t stay here.

* Cheap, much cheaper than staying in the old town
* Breakfast was good, fast and varied
* Beach club pretty (but a bit rundown now)

Cons

* No water or cold drink with breakfast
* No info about the hotel or area on arrival, in fact staff generally just not very helpful or welcoming - made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
* The room wasn’t made unless I asked, even then they didn’t change towels/sheets at all just refolded, didn’t empty bin or replace toilet roll so twice we had to go and ask for more which was embarrassing.
* Electrics go off when you take the key out meaning fridge doesn’t stay cold
* Dogs frequently barking through the night
* No lighting walking up the track back to the hotel at night

Overall, as a place to lay your head it’s fine but I wouldn’t go back.

Terribly dissatisfied. This could be a nice hotel but requires an urgent change in management. The worst bit was the stench from the bathroom - I went in in the morning and wanted to vomit. The electrics are dodgy, the furniture tired and the cleaning lacking. Breakfast was basic and unappealing- some old bread with little packets of jam, butter and honey and some unwashed tomatoes.
We didn’t see any cleaners around and that showed - it could be a lovely place given the location but it was so unpleasant we couldn’t wait to go.

The location for this hotel is outstanding in a quiet position in Kalkan. Away from the main town (only 10 mins walk) but with amazing views across the bay and out to sea. Most of the rooms face the sea and the extra large room I had was super clean with modern A/C and an amazing terrace. The hotel has its own small beach club (terraces with sunbeds) and a small plunge pool adjacent to the sea.

This is a family run hotel so you will get a warm welcome and a feeling that you are actually in their home rather than a hotel. Rustic and cosy. Breakfast is a simple affair with bread, light salad and cheese and some hot pastries all served with Turkish Tea. That said, I would have liked to have been offered water at breakfast. There is free parking at the hotel.

Authentic place built and located on rocks coast of Kalkan city. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere in the hotel with great owner Murat-bey and his lovely staff. Special thanks to Muratbey, Yagmur, Maia, Koba and other lovely staff. Enjoyed every moment of my stay in hotel. Breakfast was very good, especially borek, white cheese. The place is staying aside of the main town which is great benefit for quietness, but at a reach of 10-15 min walk to downtown.

My boyfriend and I stayed her last week, it exceeded our expectations and we can’t wait to come back! The hotel is family run and has a very warm welcoming atmosphere. The hotel location is incredible and just 10 mins walk from Kalkan centre. Thanks for having us Murat !

We stayed at this hotel for four nights, as a break from our five week holiday in Fethiye.
The hotel’s location could not be better; the views from our room, the restaurant and the sun decks were amazing.
Our room, number 9 had a great view, and we awoke each morning to see the sea glittering in the sunlight and an occasional boat coming in to the harbour. It didn’t get direct sunlight, which meant it was relatively cool.
The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, with lots of choice of great fresh food; one of the best Turkish breakfasts we’ve ever had.
The sun decks, arranged in layers down the cliff were lovely, with private areas, access to the sea and beds with towelling mattresses. A beach bar serves food and drink.
We had dinner there once and lunch three times. Great food and wine, freshly cooked and served.
From the hotel, it’s a ten minute walk to the marina with lots of bars and restaurants. The main part of the town, however, is reached by some extremely steep hills which may be a problem for those with mobility issues.
The service was great and very friendly. The owner’s granddaughter in particular was a lovely person.
Be aware also that prices in Kalkan are very similar to those in the U.K. unlike other parts of Turkey.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Отель семейный, нормальный, чистенький, чистоту поддерживают, завтрак хороший, голодными не останетесь, в номере нет холодильника, кондиционер нормальный, 4 этажа, лифта нет, расположение отеля от города Калкан около километра, пешком можно, но в жару трудно. На пристани вас встретит служащий отеля на лодке и безплатно доставит в отель (5-7 минут). Обслуживающий персонал (молодые ребята) очень внимательны и помогают во всём, пристальное внимание со стороны хозяев отеля. Море чистое, но бурное, каменистое, спуск в море с лестницы, пляжа нет, лежаки и зонтики безплатные. Не рассчитан для детей, т.к. показан бассейн на фотографии новый, а на самом деле он разбитый. Лестницы очень крутые. Народу мало, всего 13 номеров. Много свободных мест. Пляж есть в самом городе Калкан. О городе:-горный, крутые спуски, тяжело по улицам ходить, цены в ресторанах высокие, т.к. везде англичане, видимо под их достаток рассчитано, но есть пару приличных ресторанов где можно поужинать вдвоём за 100 лир (примерно 1200 рублей). Природа хорошая, везде растут маслины.

Caretta is not your usual run-of-the-mill tourist hotel: it is quirky and very different. The usual expectations - a kettle and a fridge in your room, for example, may be missing, but this is made up by the friendliness of the proprietor and his extended family. Sons, daughters, cousins and grandchildren all help in the running of this delightful family enterprise. It is not often that you encounter such engaging, helpful and genuinely kind people. They all did their utmost to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The hotel is in an idyllic spot - right above the shoreline with its own private access to the sea, and only a pleasant ten minute walk to town. We loved it and will most certainly be back as soon as possible.

We visited here twice to use the beach not the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay so we decided to come back again. The lady who is in charge and the headwaiter are very friendly. Since it is a small business the food serve can be slow depending on the occupation. I recommend here for those who are looking for a quiet, family friendly place with a clean good sea and view.

A small hotel at the end of Kalkan, only 800m from the port.
Situated on the rocks of the coast, it is directly connected to the sea through several small terraces that offer many relaxing corners.
Friendly and very helpful staff, clean an tidy, comfortable rooms, quite and romantic terraces over the sea for the evening.
On the minus side, breakfast and cooking need improvement.
Overall, it had been a wonderful staying that should be repeated.

The hotel is a lovely quaint budget hotel in a fantastic location. The proprietors and staff are really friendly . The rooms are small and clean but this is to be expected as the hotel is on a series of terraces in the cliffs at the right hand end of the bay. These terraces include sunbed’s and steps and diving boards into the deep blue sea .

Frokosten var veldig spartansk, detvar satt frem kaffe vann og te Men betjeningen spurte nesten før vi satt oss ned om vi ville ha juice og vann Vi trodde derfor at dette fulgte frokosten, men når vi sjekket ut kostet et glass med dårlig kartong juice 19 lira og liten flaske vann 5 lira Øvrig drikke var det dyreste vi har drukket i Tyrkia
Nøklene ble hengt på et hjul i trappeoppgangen og det var fritt frem for hvem som helst å ta hvilken nøkkel de ville
Veien bort til hotellet er meget meget dårlig - kjempe smal og består av asfalt, grus, stener og råtne bjelker med gruskanter og mange meter rett ned
Hvis man går hjem fra Kalkan på kvelden er det bekk mørkt

Til tross for fine rom og hyggelig betjening følte vi oss lurt og flådd og kommer ikke til å bo her igjen

We arrived at Caretta Hotel expecting it to look like the photos on Booking.com. When we arrived I have to say that the first impression was not great. The owner was sitting at the entrance smoking with a dirty shirt on. We were escorted up quite a few flights and the electricity was out. We were expecting a sea view and had to lean over the balcony to see the sea. We then went downstairs to explore and a few guys that work there followed us wherever we went. The pool was empty and the downstairs section was filthy. I could not stay there and went up to fetch our luggage to leave and we were forced to pay or else the owner said he would call the police. We paid 800 lira and left. This place needs to be inspected!!! There was no ways i would eat or stay there.

Caretta Boutique hotel has the best position in Kalkan! We initially booked for 4 nights but stayed for 7 - those decks and sunbeds are addictive :-) Our rooms were spacious, clean and cool - both rooms had balcony's with stunning views of the water. The only downside (if I have to find one!) is the lack of mini fridge to keep water cool and facilities to make coffee or tea first thing in the morning - I missed being able to have my coffee while reading in the morning.
Breakfast is served daily - a lovely spread of the usual Turkish fare - cheese, olives, salad goods, eggs etc. Instant coffee is available as well as strong Turkish tea. Freshly squeezed orange juice is an extra (Tkl 14).
The wifi is not great - but neither is the Turkcell reception so I guess it's to do with the location.
Murat, his mother, the manager Borish (spelling??) and his team of helpers were always on hand to give advice or assist with anything. Thank you all for your hospitality! And an extra special thanks to Borish who insisted on seeing us off at 5am in the morning as we left for the Dalaman airport (about 2 hrs drive away). You're a star!

Just back from our seventh visit to the Caretta. Another wonderful holiday. For us this is like coming home rather than visiting a hotel. Murat and his family know how to make visitors welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The only sadness is that Camur the Irish setter is no longer there !. The boat trip is not to be missed.
