We love this Hotel, and despite being disappointed with my request not being fulfilled we would return again. Beautiful
Pros:

Close to Durham City. Lovely quirky elegant rooms.

Cons:

It’s the second time we stayed here. First time was for our anniversary and we had a lovely welcome surprise with rose petals on the bed. This time we returned for my husbands birthday. I requested TWICE for something special again upon arrival as a nice surprise for him. Even suggesting a slice of cake which I said I would pay for prior to arrival.

Unfortunately no such thing occurred. I was quite disappointed as I thought it would’ve been a nice surprise for him.

We were in rm30 and the only downside was it was very close to the stairs and the connecting door from the stairs to the corridor where other rooms were located. We could hear guests coming and going through the door.

It was for our early valentines day, very nice and comfortable, would stay here again
Pros:

This is the second time we have visited and we have enjoyed it, i asked for room to be decorated alittle bit special for our arrival and they delivered it was lovely

Cons:

Just a few minor things we noticed when we stayed.
First time we were in lodge 5 it was beautiful not a problem.
This time we were in lodge 1. Firstly we noticed cobwebs and spiders in the corner or room.
Few visible stains on the pull out seater.
Bathroom, sink all cracked, seal round bath had gaps, in shower there was a piece of wood i think was damaged, was anything major just things that need some attention would be happy to stay in lodges again just not lodge 1.

Ok- wouldn’t stay in the main building again
Pros:

Liked the downstairs decor, the food we did have was nice, lovely staff

Cons:

The room we stayed in was very noisy, every creak in the floor was so loud and the noise from surrounding rooms constant, we left at 3am and drove home!

Glad I had a free room upgrade as I wouldn’t have wanted to pay for it!
Pros:

Location was ideal for what I wanted

Cons:

Bed, couldn’t sit on the edge of the bed due to wooden frame.
Breakfast - when it came, had black pepper over the eggs, said I didn’t like black pepper, waitress kindly took it back to the kitchen. Came back looking as though the pepper had just been scraped off, one of the eggs was broken and no hollandaise on eggs, presumable due to being scraped off!
Copper bath in room had pool of water in the bottom of it, so not cleaned properly
