Nice traditional hotel, albeit a bit tired.
Pros:

The hotel certainly does not look the part when you approach and even when you enter, you get loads of 1970's or 1980's vibes. But the rooms are really nice - very traditional, very comfortable - you really do get to feel like you're in Japan. Having said that, the showers/bathrooms are old and beige as are the other common areas. The hot spring is really nice, even if the room itself has seen better days. The people working are really lovely so that balances things our quite well. Plus - and I cannot stress that enough - it's less than 5' drive from the Snow Monkey Park car park area and another 5' from a number of nice restaurants. You do however need a car to get around.

Pros:

We stayed here to visit snow monkeys. Perfect. Toom was like a small japanese apartment. 5 rooms. Picturesque views. $8 cocktails. Japanese breakfast amazing. Would highly recommend staying here. Onsen available on site.

Pros:

We had a pleasant, albeit brief, stay at Bozanso. It’s an absolutely beautiful area off the beaten track. We came in search of the snow monkeys, who didn’t want to come out on the day we visited the park, unfortunately.

The man who checked us in was incredibly helpful and even gave us a lift to the snow monkey park in the morning (plus a voucher that covered most of our taxi fare later).

The hotel was very empty while we were there, and we weren’t staying long enough to take advantage of all the amenities. The common area has table tennis, foosball, a DJ booth, anime and manga, a bar, and a free-to-use kitchen. We did not use the public onsen because we are heavily tattooed, so I can’t comment on it. Sadly, their restaurant was not available during our stay. We ate at Fukutora, which was a friendly rustic joint down the street. There’s plenty of good restaurants nearby.

The room itself was huge. Tatami floors and dining table, but a raised bed in a separate room. The bed was not the most comfortable, but much better than a futon. The closet came equipped with plenty of extra pillows and linens. The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries. The heat pump worked great and there were two portable heaters available (we didn’t need them). It’s definitely a bit dated inside, but it was clean and comfortable. Our only complaint is that it smelled quite musty in the room when we arrived.

Overall, the service was fantastic and we hope to spend a longer stay here soon!

ホテルの雰囲気等は良かった。ただしエレベーターが無いため小さい子供連れての宿泊だと階段なので何かと不便に感じる。

Pros:

The owner, Heday, was wonderful! He picked us up from the train station, served us breakfast every morning, and even drove us out to our adventures each day. He was so friendly and welcoming and gave great suggestions of what to do while we were there and how to accomplish what we had in mind. He even allowed us to use the public onsan even though we all had tattoos!

Rip off! Do not stay here!
Pros:

Booked a quadruple room on hotels.com for $300/nt. Reservation co formed 4 futons! it was expensive, but breakfast was included and it was high season and reviews indicated that shuttle to train and snow monkey park was included. Upon arrival, front desk demanded over $100 more and refused to provide breakfast claiming their reservation only showed 2 people, even though I showed my receipt for 4 people. We had no choice, so I paid it. Room was very cold and heater shut off in the middle of the night. Futon and blankets were very thin and threadbare. Restaurant food was all microwave food - pizza, ramen, frozen French fries, etc. All terrible. Breakfast was good, but small and overpriced. Worst part was NO SHUTTLE! And the location is far from train station and restaurants. Over $400(US) for 1 night to sleep on the floor in a cold room. TOTAL RIP OFF! Also, virtually all guests were foreigners, so evidently Japanese are aware not to stay here. Based on prior reviews describing a kind owner, my guess is that hotel is under new management.
