A well positioned and modernised hotel with a lift in an interesting town with free parking. Staff were helpful and friendly. Dinner in the main dining room was busy which is a good sign but food arrived speedily and was reasonably priced. Our room was very comfortable with a large bed and the en suite shower room was modern and everything worked.
Had another amazing stay at this Lovely clean Hotel, we have stayed here many times over the years, and our rooms have always been very good, with all amenities, Kettle, coffee etc in the rooms. The Restaurant is always busy when we have been there. this is a family run business, and pictures on the wall go back 100 years. We would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel.
Great room / Suite (had a 2nd room which I didnt use as I was on my own) Clean tidy, good service, good evening meal and breakfast. Also very quite. I didn't book until late afternoon but when I phoned they were very helpful and my late arrival was not an issue regarding the restaurant.
The hotel fronts onto Place Chateaubriand and we woke in the morning to a local market set up in the Place and down the main street - marvelous.
The room was comfortable and clean and what you might expect from a 2-star hotel. The dining room offered a great menu, I had the half dozen oysters as an entree. The continental breakfast was great with the hot croissants and bread baked on site - delicious.
Staff were friendly and helpful to us on our bike ride around Brittany.
Have been here for the past 4 nights. The welcoming and relaxing vibe presented by the owner Rebecca has made my trip so wonderful.
The rooms are large and extremely comfortable and all the residents are warm and inclusive. Both breakfast and dinner has been delicious.
It's been a real treat to have this lovely hotel to come back to after a hard day's work.
Thank you, Rebecca and all the team. Its been a real pleasure. Looking forward to seeing you again
We were staying nearby and needed a nice place to eat. Called into the hotel without any booking and was offered a table immediately.
The staff were very pleasant and offered us a nice menu, which was served promptly.
The food was good accompanied by a nice bottle of french wine.
Will return if passing through
Hôtel très calme en plein coeur de Dol de Bretagne, chambre très spacieuse et très lumineuse. Salle de restaurent un peu vieillissante !
Il serait judicieux de rajouter du salé pour le petit déjeuner (oeufs, bacon...) A découvrir
It must be over 20 years since I last stayed at the Hotel de Bretagne. In essence nothing has changed, and it has continued as a family run hotel, but renovations have ensured that it now belongs in the 21st century. The rooms have been upgraded, the bed was extremely comfortable, and there was even a kettle in the room! The floor to ceiling length curtains ensured a good night’s sleep in spite of the late sunset and early sunrise!
The restaurant, which was originally what drew us to the hotel in the first place, continues to produce excellent food. There are several set menus and an a la carte, in all a wide choice of food beautifully presented.
I loved this hotel and restaurant and would happily return and recommend it to anyone who wants to find a hotel of character in a historic old town. Did you know that the person from whom the royal Stewart ( Stuart) family are descended was from Dol?
The only negative thing which I can say about the hotel.... only it’s not the hotel’s fault ... was that there was apparently some construction work going on close by, at the back, which meant the continuous sound of a generator sometimes from 6 am until 10 pm, which did not do a great deal for the otherwise peaceful ambiance of the area.
Swifts and house martins in short supply in England this summer, but not in Dol! I was also serenaded by the beautiful sound of the Song Thrush from dawn until dusk!
Dol is a city I was pleased to re-discover. I was staying there with my father to be close to our final destination on the coast. It was an excellent choice. The hotel is comfortable and nicely decorated, the owners are very friendly, their restaurant is very good.
The hotel is in a great location in a lovely town positioned in a quiet corner of the main square. The hotel is recently renovated with a modern but classically French theme. The food in the restaurant is excellent with a great choice across a variety of menu choices. We would happily stay in the hotel again
Great location to stay in the heart of the town. Rooms are recently renovated and modern but still retain a nice character. Great food served in the restaurant
We have never stayed here but eaten at the restaurant numerous times. The kitchen has always produced a very decent plate of food. Nowadays we usually stick to our favourites - seafood starters and a superbly cooked sole meuniere, succulent and swimming in brown butter. There is a very adult dessert of lemon sorbet drenched in vodka which finishes things nicely. The decor used to be more traditionally French but has recently been slightly modernised. Let’s hope they go no further with this! The service is good although on our last visit the young waiter was miffed when we asked to change the table he had given us and spent the rest of the meal serving us with over-elaborate courtesy to make his point. This was very amusing. Overall, a very good experience and they made no fuss about our dog either. To be recommended.
The hotel has secure free parking and WiFi. The room was good but in the rafters so my husband who is 6ft 4 struggled to stand up right in some parts of the room. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The receptionist was also running the bar but this was not a problem
lovely Hotel in a lovely French village, lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Very comfortable bed and traditional French breakfast.
Arrived in Athens and was taken to this property. The luxury and history of this property is worth the stay. We ate at the Rooftop Bar, where the night time view of the Acropolis most defiantly adds to the atmosphere. The menu selection was adequate and our servers were very friendly knowledgeable and accommodating. Food was above average.
The famous Alexander Bar is worth the visit alone. The cigar lounge upstairs is probably one of the best in Europe, don't expect to pay anything but top dollar though. If your traveling on a strict budget, this place doesn't exist.
On another note, the front desk reception staff were very stiff. The "Check -in" experience was very strange . Anytime I asked a question, other staff members became engaged and were speaking their native tongue in a hushed tone to each other, sometime cupping their hands over their mouths. There are security personal constantly scurrying through the lobby, creating a very strained and uncomfortable environment. I don't know exactly what's going on inside this place, but something isn't right?
When we "checked-out", the process was equally as weird. It took three staff members to check, recheck and triple check our hotel charges before they presented us with our final balance. I know there's very little job security in Greece right now, with unemployment at record highs and wages at record lows, so maybe this lends to this intense environment, where losing ones job could mean long term unemployment? Even so, I found this hotel to be more than adequate, but at the same time very bizarre.
We normally stay in St. Malo, but at the time of year that we wanted to visit, the Walled City is very crowded, and we wanted a quiet relaxing break.
We have eaten many times at the Hotel de Bretagne, but never stayed there. We were not disappointed.
Our room was modern with all the facilities that we required, and we had a nice view of the square in front of the hotel. We had one lunch and one dinner in the restaurant, and both were up to the standard that we have come to expect.
The Hotel is family owned and run to a very high standard, and the staff are all local and are very pleasant and helpful.
There is free parking in the front of the hotel, and we had no problem in getting a space.
Stayed in this hotel on the way from Cherbourg to Brest. Good location, large room, clean and tidy, friendly staff. Decor needs a bit of attention. Only a two star hotel I think but good value for money. Plenty of restaurants nearby. We enjoyed great burgers in a burger restaurant up an alleyway further down the main street.
Exellent. I have been coming to Dol on and off for twenty years. This is the best hotel that I know in the area. One feels very much at home - they do not even ask for a credit card when you book or check in. Dol is an underrated town. A good base for travelling around - especially if you rent a bike, with which you could easily get all the way to a beach.
