Please be aware that due to the town center location, this property can occasionally suffer from noise from traffic or people outside. The ground-floor bar is also sometimes host to live music on a Saturday, a Bank Holiday Sunday and Fridays throughout December, on an evening until 00:00 midnight. Although every care is taken to avoid it, noise can travel to the rooms. Complimentary ear plugs are available upon request.

Cons:

Full English breakfast could have been a bit ‘fuller’ so to speak :) Only one slice of toast offered when served whereas most other hotels etc would’ve served a rack or similar ie more toast . Extra sausage needed and the bacon was overdone / dry unfortunately.

Pros:

Comfortable bed and nice and clean, having restaurant available downstairs for food was a bonus for us.

Disappointing and unsafe
Pros:

Room 6 was good, Ensuite shower rooms were good. Waitresses at evening meal and breakfast were pleasant and helpful. Evening meal was good.

Cons:

I booked two single rooms with ensuite; room 3 and room 6 at the same price £85 each for one night with breakfast- room 6 was fine but room 3 was poor. Room 3 had a bed with no headboard and positioned in the room with the pillow end against the window which would be v uncomfortable to lean on and yet there was no chair in the room. The window itself opened onto a ‘terrace’ used as a smoking and communal sitting area which is a potential source of noise and smoke coming into the room, there are also two large extractor fans opposite the window. When I went and asked to change this room I was told there were no other singles so I suggested splitting the cost to switch to a double but was told no because I had booked through booking.com! Eventually the receptionist agreed to put a sign on the terrace saying out of use which she did. What was of concern though was signs in the rooms said ‘no smoking inside’ and to use the smoking terrace or outside the back exit instead.

When checking the escape routes it became clear that this back exit was permanently propped open which is a security risk for those staying AND given this is the only exit after hours for all rooms with this stairway going past the kitchen to the emergency exit, it is also a safety risk. We were told at check-in that the main entry route in and out, would be locked at night to prevent those staying from helping themselves to the bar! So there is only one emergency exit for everyone (nb window not an exit option in Rm3 or 6).

The emergency instructions in the rooms said dial 999 in an emergency but then went on to say that the room phones had no external line - which means someone would be reliant on having a mobile.

At 5.45pm I was sent an email offering to let me check out of the hotel and have a refund. Due to having a meal booked with them for 6.15pm, I didn’t see this until later - though the chances of finding two rooms on a Saturday night seems very unlikely- so not a sincere offer….

Comfortable but no official parking.
Pros:

The room was clean and the bed comfy. The staff were slow to welcome us but it was busy in the restaurant to be fair to them. We did have some issues with parking, it should not be listed that parking is available there as you have to pay for a public car park which is a few minutes walk away - we arrived late with heavy luggage which made this a challenge. If you need close parking, have mobility or accessibility needs, I don't recommend it. The location was good, in the centre of town,

Cons:

No parking available on-site. Public car park nearby but is not reimbursed by the foundry. It felt misleading that the property had listed it on their Booking.com page.

Not worth the money

Pros:

The room was clean and comfortable. The shower was very good. Breakfast was excellent. I had a meal in the restaurant one night and it was really good.

Cons:

The staff were not particularly friendly. I was a solo traveller staying for 3 nights and could have done with a bit more friendliness from the staff. I was worried about the 'locking the doors at 10' situation as I knew I would be out later one night but the key pass worked OK. It was noisy in the early morning from delivery lorries to the shops behind the hotel.

Nicely styled room. Excellent shower. Friendly staff.

Cons:

Location awful. Vans and lorries unloading under window on and off from 4.30am meant getting a good sleep was impossible. Unless you are a sound sleeper I would look elsewhere.
