The hotel staff were nice & kind people, but they need to have a better training & understanding of their role as waiters and cleaners. I liked that it took 3 minutes on foot to get to the plaza mayor.
Except for the nice & kind staff, almost everything I did not like. The amount of money paid was very incongruent to the value & quality of the small/tiny hotel room I was booked in (I paid less for a ***** 5 star hotel in Guatemala City); the cleaning service was very poor (they cleaned my room only once and only because I asked for them to clean it; even then I had to ask the cleaner to come back and clean the room floor & bathroom floor. The waste basket was never emptied. The bed was hard & the bed headboard was shaky & my things on the bed kept falling through the crack between bed & headboard; the bed & pillows were hard, so sleep was difficult. Noise levels (people talking at reception) woke me up many times because the room walls & windows were made with inferior quality materials & insulation from noise was nil. The ground floor was dark and gloomy, the tables for breakfasts were in that dark space. The quaity of food was terrible, and the table service provided was below par. Staff training needs to be done for cleaning and serving staff. Overall, this place has no good qualities (excepting the distance to town). The open space on upper floor was used by all the guests so the noise level was high. I had to sequester a table & 2 chairs to place in front of my room door because there was no space in my room for a laptop, no chair in my room, no table in my room, no clothes cupboard, and I had to ask for hangers so that I could use the wall hooks for all my clothes. I was totally disappointed the 6 nights I was there, and I tried to stay away from the hotel as much as possible to enjoy the beautiful city of Antigua.
I don't mean to be mean, but there was really nothing to like:( I couldn't wait to get out of there:(
First of all -the value for money?none. There are equally cheap/expensive hostels in Antigua that are muuuuuch nicer (I stayed in 3 different ones,so I believe I can compare).
-They didn't know about my reservation at first, but okay, it happens it was sorted out in a few minutes
-There were no blinds on the beds (which is now a must I think, and there were pics with the blinds on beds on the booking. So maybe other rooms had them, but not mine.
-The worst bed I've ever experienced in a hostel. It felt like sleeping in a hammock. Really needs an upgrade of the mattress
-One bathroom for 2 rooms (8ppl in my room alone). Which wouldn't technically be a problem. I'm talking toilet, sink and a shower in the same room. So if you need to pee or brush your teeth while someone's in the shower.... it's just not acceptable
-Also,the bathroom was just yack. I'm really sorry, but it was. And so was the room.it looked more like an orphanage than a hostel.
I really wouldn't recommend this place if you have other options (which I haven't as I unexpectedly needed to extend my stay and almost everything was booked out for that specific night).
The place itself is basic but acceptable, very well located. The ladies working there are nice and accommodating, if anything I feel extremely sorry for them and suggest they go and work elsewhere.
Everything else. It is a scam and the owner is extremely rude. I generally don't leave bad reviews, but this place is threatening, not just poorly managed. We paid for a room with private bathroom and, as it was outside of the room, we kept finding it covered in other people's feces every time we would walk in, making it disgusting to use. When I called to address the problem, the man behind the phone stated he could not understand what I was saying because I don't talk like a Guatemalan (I am fluently bilingual Spanish speaker and have been living in Guatemala for 5+ years) and he also tried to mansplain the obvious to me, kept talking over me, so much so that I hung up because it was impossible to stop the useless monologue. I showed up at reception to speak with someone in person and they stated no manager was there to attend me. I work with Antigua hospitality industry myself and know THIS IS NOT OK.
The location was very good, and the price was right. Also the staff was very nice and accommodating
At first, I was placed in the top floor room, which was basically a wooden box that they had added to the property… much like a sauna, it got very hot during the day, but once I turned on the fan, things cooled down
It was cheap and available when all other hotels had no room they speak no English have a translator room was clean and serviceable but spartan and lots of street noise breakfast was awesome
Street noise and shower
I liked the friendly staff, we were a group of 15 people and they kindly received us at different hours because we were arriving from different cities in Guatemala. They prepared us a packed breakfast because we had to leave early in the morning to hike Acatenango Volcano. Julio was very helpful and always there assisting us in what we needed. I higly recommend them and for sure we'll stay with them next time we arrive to Antigua.
There was only a shared shower
Habitacion limpia solo q cable sin conecion y calle muy transitada
I liked that I got a private bathroom.
The entrance to the room was located on a busy street. The walls/ceiling, and doors are very thin. There was a space under the door and you could feel cold wind coming through. There wasn't any warm/hot water.
