Great hotel right on the lake and close to Polonnaruwa ancient city
Pros:

I loved the location. Right on the lake. We were close to the ancient city and hired bikes and rode there from the hotel, which was really fun. The hotel staff were amazing and really helped me organise my stay. We booked a few trips through them including the boat safari, which was amazing as we saw an elephant and local fishermen, as well as the bikes and a safari to Kaudulla NP with Damith where we saw over a hundred elephants and lots of baby elephants. The hotel also booked our transport to and from the hotel which was very reasonably priced. The rooms were large and clean. We loved all the mongooses around the hotel too. The pool was clean and very welcome.

Cons:

There is a bit of construction going on which didn’t bother us too much and will be good when it’s finished.

We didn’t love the crows. It’s not the hotel’s fault that there are so many but they are a bit creepy.

A nice stayy, good value for money
Pros:

This is a small, family-owned hotel. It is reasonably close to the archaeological sites and faces Parakrama Samudra Lake.

Initially, I was concerned because I had seen some reviewers complain about mosquitoes. However, during my stay, I did not experience any mosquito issues. I travelled in May.

It is a great place if you want to wind down and enjoy some calm and tranquillity. The food was also good.

At this price point, it offers good value, and you are unlikely to be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a more refined stay, this may not be the right place for you.

Cons:

- Unfortunately, the property is a little run-down due to neglect by the previous management. However, the young lady who is the current owner mentioned that they are slowly working on improving it.
- The room did not have a TV or a mini fridge. In a hot climate like Polonnaruwa, it would have been nice to have a mini fridge to keep drinks cool.

In the lap of nature
Pros:

Located next to a lake, it's like you are in the middle of nature, you could see different types of birds, squirrels, even fireflies. As I was travelling with a kid, these were fascinating scenes, which we don't get to see in the concrete jungle. The pool is facing the lake, and the swim was relaxing.

Lovely hotel in a stunning location
Pros:

Hotel Lake Park is a lovely hotel in an absolutely amazing location, you are a stone’s throw from the lake, and it is like staying in the middle of a national park with all the wildlife around (egrets, pelicans, mongoose!). The food is good and the staff are very kind and helpful.

All in all, we had a wonderful stay at Hotel Lake Park and would absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking to explore Polonnaruwa, or just somewhere to relax and enjoy Sri Lankan nature!

Cons:

The hotel does need a bit of TLC, for example, there is an unfinished first floor above the rooms and the AC unit was held together by a plaster. The beds also need mosquito nets (that said, we did not get bitten in the rooms, despite being next to water). However, everything is clean, they have nice bathrooms and kettles + tea/coffee in the rooms

The hotel is beautifully located by the lake and large trees provide shade.

Cons:

There are many crows in the trees and bird droppings are all over the seats and tables. You have to be careful not to get hit by bird droppings. The water in the pool is cloudy so we did not use it.
