Disappointed and daylight robbery £175 for 1 night - ok the Scottish Open was on, but at least try.
Pros:

Bar man/barista made me a lovely cup of hot chocolate. All the bar staff were nice. Car park taken up by all the pub patrons.

Cons:

It's a pub with rooms dreaming it's something grander. It really tries with the room decor (nice touch to have a thinner duvet for the weather, but could have been a bit bigger) and a flashy bathroom (nice towels) . But! The noise in the pub below is loud in the roomsl. Decor nice, bed is really small and creaky. Bathroom lovely and big, but floor tiles are broken. Avoid restaurant at all costs. Overpriced and underwhelming. Don't call it a restaurant and then serve something a supermarket cafe would be ashamed of! You can cook fresh food fairly easily. But don't call yourself a restaurant if you serve up freezer to fryer food and can't get that right! I told the server politely what was wrong and didn't make a fuss, she said she passed my comments to the cook - please listen and do something. I wish I'd gone to Aldi for some food). Thank god I didn't book breakfast. Stayed at the Ship Inn a couple doors up last year, much better.

Location was our main reason for staying at the hotel. Our number 4 in our opinion it was more suited for one person.
Pros:

Location

Cons:

Breakfast being served from 9am however you have to checkout at 10am. That did not meet our needs.

Cons:

There was a wedding on that we were unaware of. There were wedding guests shouting up the stairs where our room was until gone midnight. The bed was lumpy due to it being 2 beds pushed together. The pillows were also poor.

3rd Stay and won't be back!
Pros:

This was our 3rd stay as 3 couples for our annual trip to Musselburgh Races. Sadly it will be our last stay at Ravelston.
The positives are that it is within walking distance to the Races, restaurants and bars which is why we changed to here from the previous hotel we stayed at.
The staff are exceptional despite clearly being over worked and not enough resource to deal with the bar and food service. There are often long queues to be served.

There is no reception as such so it can take a while to get hold of someone to check in and out. We were just handed keys with no information. I always book the same rooms a year in advance however on this occasion 1 room wasn't a twin. When I spoke to the Manager there was barely an apology and a half hearted offer to change the config of a room if we swapped with our friends.
As we had a dinner booking and wanted to get changed we were unable to do this.
The bar is very lively and can be noisy and boisterous at times. The noise didn't subside till 12.45am and we did have 2 young guys who had come upstairs to make phone calls outside our room to source a party and gear which was a but unsettling.

We were in Room 2 which was clean however the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress dipped in lots of places and was lumpy. Not ideal if you need a firm supportive mattress. They've also stopped providing toiletries except a bar of soap.
We've always had breakfast included in the price however this was not the case this time yet we were still paying the same price. The lovely lady who was serving breakfast was very apologetic that we hadn't been told. We did have a bit of a wait for our food however it was lovely when it did arrive.

On checkout we again waited in the bar with no one around to eventually find out that the money for the rooms had already been taken. In previous years we have always paid for each room on checkout. Again something that wasn't explained.

Musselburgh is very limited in accommodation for the Races however the recent reviews of the Ravelston do seem to have the same themes throughout. For us it definitely wasn't worth £150 a night.

Disappointing visit and we will not be back.
Cons:

We stayed the same period last year and wrote a very positive review so it is disappointing to write this. We were advised on arrival of potential noise due to managers 40th Birthday Party. Band playing in bar until 10ish and function suite until 1 AM. We had children running around the hotel chapping on bedroom doors until the early hours so little sleep. Disappointing given we booked 5 months in advance and if advised of party, we would have looked at alternative accommodation. No breakfast midweek which we learned from reading the information in the bedroom.
