Could have been better.
Another wonderful stay at The Rutland. The upgrade to an executive suite was a great touch. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Delicious breakfast.
Nothing. It was perfect.
Great location for visiting student daughter at her accommodation.
There was no aerial signal on the TV, so that was a little frustrating when I just wanted to chill out when I got back to my room
The staff were fantastic
The hotel is in need of a total upgrade.
Cracks in ceilings, wallpaper peeling off. Carpets well past their best.
The hotel is the perfect location for a 9 am appointment at the hospital and we needed to travel from Halifax so less stress. Also generous allowance for parking @£10 for 24 hours. Sheffield Botanical Gardens very close. Ideal for a stroll around.
You had to go gown a set of stairs to get to the breakfast room or travel around the outside of the hotel with a mobility scooter. However the staff did offer to make up a table in the lounge which was ground floor
Very friendly staff.
A good choice of food at breakfast.
A large bedroom albeit with some reservations (see below)
The room was not serviced despite hanging the request on the door at 9.45am. Out all day so didn’t find out until our return at 9.30pm.
The shower screen too narrow to stop water forming a puddle on bathroom floor(so if we’d requested fresh towels, would have returned to sopping wet towels).
The room was excessively hot with no fan or other means of cooling, other than opening the small window).
The hotel in general was clearly in need of a major refurbishment.
Easy access to Royal Hallamshire Hospital
Bedroom window in poor state of repair, couldn’t close it. Mattress hard and a bit lumpy
we stayed in this hotel for 3 nights while visiting friends in Sheffield. It was very reasonably priced for us and we had a very adequate room on the same floor as Reception, as I have mobility problems. However, there are stairs to the dining room but they were doable and the staff did offer to bring my breakfast up to the lounge if I hadn't been able to manage. The hotel's main asset is their staff who are friendly, helpful and accommodating. I agree with other reviews that overall the fabric of the hotel could do with some attention however, our room was clean and tidy and, as we were there over the heatwave, the fan provided was very welcome. The wet room was good but overheated with a towel rail / radiator absolutely blazing. We couldn't seem to turn it down but thankfully when we asked at reception they arranged for it to be turned off within the day. It would have been helpful to have a shelf or somewhere in the shower room to put toilet bags. We had one evening meal in the dining room with our friends that included 2 teenage boys - they had pizza but not enamoured of the BBQ sauce in the crust. I had fish pie which was lovely and obviously home made. The curry was also tasty and overall we feel the food is freshly prepared and enjoyable. The choice at breakfast was good and again tasty overall. I would be happy to stay there again.
Dog friendly
Breakfast has limited options and very expensive
Everything. Especially location and staff
Nothing other than parking fee which we managed to avoid.
Location
Tired and in need of renovation. Breakfast was awful. Had better at a road side cart. Very cheap sausage bacon etc. side were good.
Fairly central and staff and food lovely.
Lots of stairs in the property but period features were lovely.
Close proximity to the hospital so I could recover after my procedure rather than having to travel
Was all good
Super friendly staff, great value and perfect location. EV charging was a bonus too.
Only small gripe was the lack of sockets in room.
This was my 2nd visit. Chose the hotel for its location and reasonable rates. Our room -22- was large and had everything needed. Beds were comfortable. Overall a pleasant stay and would return on future visit to Sheffield. Staff lovely.
As many have already mentioned, the hotel needs refurbishment in most areas. The areas in most need also would benefit from a deep clean to remove dust. It is not dirty as such but a little uncared for. The outside areas at the back could also be improved with garden furniture; though there is a risk this would become a smoking area☹️
It’s a quirky hotel, not following the same corporate style as many hotel chains.
It’s a bit tired in places, and the exterior of the hotel could be better cared for
