Disclaimer: Not sure if this was the fault of Hotels.com or the hotel itself, or a combination of the two.
Arrived at this hotel via car only to find that it was completely closed for renovations. I had made a non-refundable reservation to stay almost 2 months prior, yet received absolutely no notice from either the hotel or Hotels.com that the hotel was closed. In fact, I continued to receive notifications from Hotels.com of my upcoming stay here! I would not recommend booking here, until it can be confirmed that the hotel is open and accepting guests again. We got lucky and were able to get an on-the-spot reservation at Serein Beach down the street, which was positively lovely. Had to get a refund after the fact from Hotels.com, who were not easy to deal with at all when it came to this snafu. Very stressful to arrive to the hotel that I had already booked and paid for only to find it closed.
Positives: right by the beach + nice private beach area. enjoyed kayaking on the lagoon out the back through the mangroves at no charge.
Negatives: No air con in the room + need to sleep under a mosquito net. Wifi was a bit hit+miss at times.
This property is no more than 2 Star rating. No room service, TV or tea/coffee facilities. Poorly maintained premises. Location OK on beach front. Friendly staff however hard to recommend hotel to others. Owners need to spend some serious money to upgrade to an acceptable standard to meet international travellers.
Pleasant hotel with room & balcony facing lagoon. Visited off season so quite peaceful.
Canoed on lagoon (not included) in evening- nice but map could be better.
100,000s bats flew over the lagoon in the evening- spectacular!
Breakfast in another hotel by same company 50 m along the road. Standard Sri Lankan breakfast - fruit platter, eggs, toast etc. Last came to Tangalle 34 yrs ago so a bit of a shock to see the development. Ate freshly grilled parrot fish in another beach restaurant along the road-superb.
Room and particularly terrace with through views of both lagoon and sea were fine. Bathroom bit basic, not good water pressure. Nice breakfast and staff. This stretch of beach in Tangalle rather dead even few days before Christmas, and many restaurant staff not very switched on.
