Our stay at Araya Totoan was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.
From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. The hospitality was exceptional — warm, attentive and incredibly thoughtful, making us feel at home while experiencing traditional Japanese culture.
The ryokan itself is beautiful, peaceful and authentic. It provided the perfect setting to slow down, unwind and immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere of Japan. The onsen baths were a wonderful experience, and the calm surroundings made it easy to completely switch off from everyday life.
What we appreciated most was the balance between tradition, comfort and heartfelt service. Everything felt authentic rather than staged for tourists, which made the experience even more special.
We would highly recommend Araya Totoan to anyone looking for a tranquil and genuine ryokan experience, especially those wanting to experience Japanese hospitality, culture and onsen traditions in a beautiful setting.

Amazing high-end ryokan experience
Exceptional services and Ryokan.
This place is incredible. If you can, try and spend at least 3 nights. It is an amazing place to relax and enjoy yourself. We loved every second and could barely bring ourselves to leave!
The staff was amazing, very helpful and thoughtful.
The room was beautiful, the private onsen was large with a sizable patio, dinner was delicious.

A truly stunning, historical and special stay. The owner and team were so wonderful and looked after us beautifully. The suite itself was divine. Soaking in a cedar tub while looking at the forest floor is something we’ll never forget. The private dining room makes your stay feel even more exclusive. The food was truly out of this world. Our baby was catered for beautifully. We even had a large Moses basket in the dining room for her to rest. The area itself is very cool- there was an arts and crafts fair there when we stayed. There is a beautiful forest walk too. Can’t fault the stay and can’t wait to return one day.
