We really loved staying at this very unique place. The building which housed a British collector's office has been meticulously renovated preserving the original aura. The rooms are spacious, clean and open into a sea facing verandah. The front desk staff are very accommodating and helpful. The food was exceptional. We would very highly recommend the bungalow on the beach to everyone looking for a peaceful relaxing place.

A very relaxing experience. The food was simply excellent. And the staff were amazing! Deepak (main staff person) was just fantastic! Loved our stay!

We had been planning to visit Tranquebar since a long time and the pandemic finally made it happen. It is a stand alone property with stunning views of the ocean, the Danish fort and an ancient temple. The food and service are great. The areas outside the hotel could be cleaner but the hotel and property itself is very clean and in good shape for a 17 century building.

The property's biggest draw is its location, right on the beach next to the Danish fort. The building is a heritage building which has been beautifully restored, with quaintly named rooms, each of which appears to have a different colour scheme, with antique furniture and 4 poster beds. The staff are always smiling and ever ready to go the extra mile.
The choice in the restaurant is good; however we tried the biryani which was not up to the mark, whereas the continental food was very good. Morning breakfasts were very good with a choice of western as well as South Indian dishes. The swimming pol was unfortunately closed and has been since the onset of Covid, but this fact is not mentioned anywhere online. There was a slight musty smell in our room, perhaps because of the very old nature of the building. The bathroom was very narrow, with difficulty in opening the door if there was already someone standing at the sink. In view of its rural location and lack of full 5 star facilities, the property should consider reducing their daily rates.

J'ai demandé 5 plats avant de pouvoir en manger un. Ils étaient tous "absent". et pour le dessert un comble : pas de banane (dans un pays où il y en a sur tous les étalages!).

Great little hotel, amazing facilities and lovely staff

This is a heritage property where the Danish Governor used to live. The current owners have preserved the old charm. The sea is practically at the doors and the waves splashing close by.

We had a great stay at the Bungalow. Also got a chance to explore the local area. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The swimming pool beside the beach is absolutely marvelous.

Unschlagbar ist die Lage direkt am Golf von Bengalen in einem wünderschönen Garten mit Herrenhaus aus der Kolonialzeit.Die Einrichtung ist Zeittypisch und sehr gesmackvoll,ein großer Pool steht zur Verfügung und das Essen ist gut zubereitet.

Absolutely dreamy place. There was not a single thing i did not enjoy.

A wonderful building on the edge of the ocean. An easy place to stay and not leave the grounds. If you do leave there is much to see here. The maritime museum, the estuary has Osprey and White Breasted Kingfishers, plus the Danish Fort.
Breakfast at the resort is buffet style and western. If you ask they may serve an Indian breakfast at your request.
The rooms have individual water heaters so you will have hot water when you want it.
There is AC and ceiling fans in each room. WiFi is weak but they have it.
Do use the pool, it is about 4 feet deep and a nice place to relax.

Very nice place, well situated, and where we received a fantastic welcome despite of the Cyclonic storm alert.

We visited for two-three from the 21st to the 23rd of Sept., 2018.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Bungalow on the Beach!
However, I do want to share some feedback for travellers regarding the property and the hotel.

1. This is a 'non-hotel' hotel. So no booze and some constraints regarding the availability of food etc.
2. It's almost like staying in someone's beautiful summer home as the service (for the most part - wonderful!) sometimes depends on the staff's mood.
3. The menu is limited - we had some lovely things like the pineapple and cheese salad, the chicken in lemon sauce, the dosa and spicy prawn curry. However if you are travelling with a child carry a lot of snacks.
4. There isnt much to do except laze around and relax by the pool...(with no alcohol)!
5. This is a one-dog town but this property is exquisite.
8. While the drive from Chennai was quite long, we may stop by again if in the vicinity for a day...

Overall, a lovely holiday ....THANK YOU!

Les points positifs : Bâtiment magnifique et bien restauré ; piscine très agréable ; décoration très harmonieuse, chambre agréable, environnement génial.
Les points négatifs : Le réceptionniste a insisté à notre arrivée pour nous faire payer une deuxième fois le séjour et presque 40 euro de plus que ce que nous avions déjà payé. Il ne voulait pas comprendre que la séjour était déjà réglé. Nous avions la confirmation écrite en français et il ne savait pas la lire. Nous avons dit que nous attendions le rétablissement de la wi-fi pour lui prouver en ligne que c'était payé. Il a fini par téléphoner pour vérifier. En clair, l'accueil n'est pas à la hauteur d'un hôtel de cette classe. La wi-fi n'a pas fonctionné du week-end. Le restaurant est très moyen. En conclusion, très bon hôtel si on améliorait ces détails et la maintenance générale (fuites des douchettes, ampoules à changer... tâches sur les tapis et sur les rideaux, etc.
