Lovely historical building. Perfect location. Our room was great. Top floor with a fab sea view. Harvey & all his staff were really helpful & friendly & he helped us sort a car rental. Super breakfast. Lively bar. Great service, A five star experience.
It doesn't have a lift. Not a problem for us & the staff will carry your bags to your room.
The Grand Hotel probably was very grand in its day, but it is a bit tired looking. However, this is more than compensated for with the comfort of the room, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
It seems like the hotel is slowly being upgraded, so I expect it will be much more comfortable in future times.
It has a cute olde worlde bar and lounge that were good to visit of an evening for an after dinner drink.
My room was very warm and comfortable, with a really clean and neat en suite.
The breakfast offering was good, with a cooked breakfast as well as continental on offer, served in a very grand dining room, but because of the grandness of the room, it took on quite a funereal atmosphere.
I would recommend having some music playing in this room at breakfast, to take away some of the formality imposed by the setting.
The towels were nice. The avocado served by the chef was a thoughtful touch.
Everything else about this hotel is shockingly bad. The decor is ripped, dated and dirty. The bath had mould along the edges. The window had to be forced open to get some fresh air into the room. The sleeping receptionist behind the desk was rude and surly but managed to take my case downstairs when I asked to. The curtain swags were thick with dust. The mattresses were lumpy yet soft and saggy.
All of this was bad yet being forced to pay £276 for the joy of it was more than a person can stomach
The faded grandeur of The Grand Hotel will hopefully reach new heights under new ownership. It's in the best location in Lerwick and has a very long history. But the bonus for staying here is the fabulous staff, young and old.
Entrance from car park was creepy for a single person.
Bra läge mitt i Lerwick! Fantastisk frukost.
Varmvattensystemet uppfyller alla fördomar om Storbritannien.
The Grand Hotel's new owners are making a massive effort to bring the old girl into the modern era as her grandeur is a wee bit faded. The rooms are comfortable though and the staff wonderful.
Entering from the carpark means meandering through a few bleach-smelling storage areas until you find the bar to check in. It's a bit gothically creepy balanced out by the sunny warmth of the breakfast room.
Brilliant location, pleasant helpful staff, views of the harbour.
In a poor state of repair, aged and soiled carpets, defective shower only delivered cold water, broken glass in skylights (dangerous!), peeling wallpaper and blown damp plaster.
A house dating back to the Victorian epoch, with stuck, high ceilings, heavy curtains, carpets, luxurious ambiance. Perfect location in the heart of Lerwick, capital of the Shetlands, 2 min. from the harbour, 10 min. from the Mareel culture house and the Shetland museum. The hotel is somehow run down (compared to an imaginary original state), yet this discrepancy between the visible past and the present boosts the ambiance. A very small crew, yet very helpful. For any problem we got a solution. Great view from the rooms over the roofs of Lerwick over to Bressay isle.
Many facitilites like lounge, luggage depot, night club are closed for years. As a guest you move between your bedroom and the large and beautiful dining hall. No lift for the house is listed as a historical monument. The hot water supplies need a remake. Friday and Saturday nights are quite noisy until 1 or 2 a.m. because of the bar right opposite the hotel. So better go there and have a dring and share the talk.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Comfy room and perfect location.
It’s a central location and the breakfasts were good
It’s a very old property- and quite expensive for how basic it is
Gratis parking binnen loopafstand.
wifi viel regelmatig weg
Very helpful staff. Great restaurants nearby.
The only problem with the room was low shower pressure.
