Couldn’t improve on location. Perfect position on Commercial Road, spitting distance from bars and restaurants.
The hospitality offered by all members of the team was outstanding. Harvey, the manager, was genuinely friendly and would do anything to help.
The lady in charge of the dining room (I’m sorry I didn’t get her name) went out of her way to make our stay memorable. Breakfast was fabulous.
The building was a little tired but full of character and history. I could only imagine how grand it must have been in its day.
Our room was cosy and comfortable and warm.
The shower was disappointing and could have done with a bit of modernisation.
Amazing location, wonderful staff, great breakfast, good towels and plenty of hot water, slept really well
Decor a bit tired and dilapidated but I think it adds to its charm
Great staff, good location.
The location, one street back from the harbour was good. We had a front room and a view from the window.
The breakfast is amazing. Huge variety, juice, heaps of different cereals, fruit and the hot food option is huge. The breakfast room is beautiful.
The staff are lovely, friendly and chatty.
It’s clean.
It’s tired, refurbishment is happening though. Bedrooms are small and it was the most expensive room on our entire trip. We couldn’t use the bathroom shower, no hot water or pressure. It wasn’t able to be rectified but we were given a key to a single room down the hall way for showering.
The stairs, no lift and it’s a long way to the third floor! Staff did help with bags on the way in.
Hotel 'offered' an early breakfast. However when I went down for breakfast, managed to have some fruit and yoghurt which was set out, but waited for more than 20 minutes and no staff came to serve coffee or any hot breakfast - really poor service. No staff to be seen anywhere - my taxi arrived and I had to go to the airport.
Great breakfast and perfect location in the city.
Harvey was fantastic. Carried our heavy luggage upstairs for us!
Central
My staff member stayed for work for 4 nights. The room was dirty, towels and sheets stained, tiles were mouldy and dirty. The hotel advertises a restaurant but doesn’t have one. Overall really horrid stay. Left a day early. Locals they spoke to said it was known to be a very poor hotel. Expensive.
It is what it is, a simple hotel from the 60s/70s that's remained the same, the pictures do the hotel justice, and the staff are nice. I quite liked the fabric of the bedding, which was a nice touch.
The wifi simply does not work, and the mesh system set up is incorrectly set up, however, you're in Shetland, it doesnt really work anywhere.
Very central location for shops and harbour. Very helpful staff and excellent, enormous breakfast. Plenty of public free parking at the back of the hotel. Comfortable bed. So warm we switched the heaters off.
Hotel did evening meals but unfortunately not on the night we stayed
Grand by name, but sadly seen its best days gone by. Obviously the owner has/had not enough money to maintain everything to keep it up to it's name. Rather old fashioned, dated and run down in parts. We found it fine for one night.
Pleasant staff, very convenient location, and a splendid breakfast room.
The hotel is in urgent need of a costly comprehensive refurbishment in order to bring up to the expected standard.
Breakfast was excellent & all the staff were too
Location spot on
Clean and quiet, great staff, excellent breakfast, though the hotel would benefit from some modernisation
Getting tired in places, no evening meals, rooms a little cramped
