Arrived to the most delicious birthday cake ever that the hotel was kind enough to leave in my room. Loved every minute spent at the Dewberry!
As someone in the architecture and design field, my stay at The Dewberry Charleston was incredibly inspiring. The hotel strikes a rare balance between timeless elegance and restraint, with every space feeling intentional and layered. The attention to proportion, materiality, lighting, and atmosphere is exceptional. Beyond the beautiful design, the hospitality and overall experience were equally thoughtful.
Beautiful hotel, rooms and service. For the price though the gym is really bad and the in room hair dryer and vanity kits are poor quality.
There are hotels that are beautiful, and then there are properties that understand emotional pacing, atmosphere, and restraint. The Dewberry Charleston belongs firmly in the latter category.
What continues to distinguish The Dewberry is not simply its design, but the discipline behind it. Nothing feels excessive, forced, or performative. The property allows texture, architecture, lighting, sound, and service to quietly speak for themselves, which is considerably more difficult to achieve than overt luxury.
As someone who studies environments professionally through photography and event documentation, I notice details many guests may overlook. The transition from the lobby into the living room spaces feels intentionally softened rather than abrupt. The seating arrangements encourage conversation without overcrowding the room. Even the lighting temperature throughout the property remains remarkably consistent, which subtly affects how relaxed guests feel within the environment.
The guest experience also feels exceptionally well-calibrated. Staff presence is attentive without hovering, polished without feeling rehearsed. That balance is rare.
One detail I particularly appreciated was how beautifully the property handles natural light throughout the day. Morning light feels calm and restorative, while evenings settle into a richer, more intimate atmosphere that translates exceptionally well for weddings, executive gatherings, and refined social events. Few properties transition emotionally from day to evening as gracefully as The Dewberry.
For couples considering wedding weekends or luxury events in Charleston, this matters more than people realize. A property should not merely accommodate guests, it should shape how they remember the experience emotionally.
The Dewberry does that exceptionally well.

The rooftop bar situation where guests don't have automatic access over outsiders is unfair. Didn't know there were bikes accessible. Should be at least croissants available with coffee in lobby. They need decent local maps with interest points shown.
We loved our stay at the Dewberry! We got the ride the bikes, eat at the Citrus Club and be driven to dinner both nights by the valet Volvo service. Beds were extremely comfortable and everything was clean! Would definitely stay again!
My Fiancée got me a stay at The Dewberry for Christmas because I walk about how much I love Charleston. She had never been and we went over Valentines Day weekend as a quick getaway. The Dewberry was wonderful, the main lobby/restaurant was beautiful, drinks were great, and it smells great. The room was amazing, giant shower and the bed was so comfortable. They offer a service with a partnership with Volvo where they will drop you off anywhere on the peninsula or one time during your stay you can borrow one of the cars for up to 3 hours, if there is a vehicle available. Granted it was February but the rooftop bar was so cool, if a little windy because of the time of year. We where in town during a wildlife event called SEWE, we knew nothing about it beforehand, but we had the privilege to get to see a couple of trainers release two falcons from the rooftop.
We loved staying here and would choose it again! Great location and aesthetic. Everyone was very friendly, professional, and helpful.
Nice hotel in great location. Rooms are a bit on the small side but well-furnished. Valet Parking is outrageously expensive. Very quiet and very clean.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Dewberry in Charleston, and it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The design of the hotel is stunning, perfectly blending modern elegance with Charleston charm, creating a truly luxurious atmosphere.
My room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and incredibly comfortable, making it feel like a home away from home. The amenities were top-notch. Dining at the Dewberry was a treat as well, with a wide variety of delicious food options to choose from throughout my stay—on both the rooftop and living room.
As an American Express traveler, I was delighted by the special accommodations and perks offered, which added an extra touch of exclusivity to my experience. This was my first stay at the Dewberry, and it was nothing short of amazing.
I will absolutely recommend the Dewberry to friends and family, and I can’t wait to return for another unforgettable stay!
Love the location, near Marion Square, easy walk to King Street.
Breakfast…….need to order something different next time.
This is not a quiet hotel. The street noise is excessive, the rooms are not well insulated from other guests, we could hear our neighbors conversations all night long. The hotel is more of a party night club vibe. We were looking for a quiet sanctuary, but we were unable to get a good nights sleep for the 4 nights we stayed.
The Dewberry is a bustling, hip hotel with an excellent location in Charleston. An easy walk to King Street or the waterfront. The hotel is very busy and is not especially relaxing in the public areas. My family was there for two nights and we had two rooms - a Signature King and a Signature Queen. The queen room was quite a bit more spacious than the king, despite having two beds. The king was very small - even for a boutique hotel and did not have a closet, just a small armoire. Both rooms were nicely decorated, if maybe a bit dated. My wife had to call for housekeeping immediately as the sheets on the king bed were dirty when we checked in. The housekeeping staff started making up the bed and noticed that the 2nd set of sheets was also dirty... they went off the find a 3rd set which did the trick.
The rooftop bar is a big draw and can be hard to access, even for guests. You have to queue up in the lobby, where the concierge grossly exaggerates the waitlist so that you feel an inflated sense of gratitude when you do finally get up there. My wife and I were told there was a list of 30 people ahead of us. We were allowed up with our teenage girls to take a photo - literally escorted by a hotel employee in case we tried to overstay our welcome. We counted 11 open tables of all different sizes, plus many seats at the bar inside. We didn't appreciate being lied to, especially as we were spending thousands of dollars there. The hotel is trying a bit too hard to be trendy, when they should focus on customer service. Note to the hotel - overnight guests should have direct elevator access to the rooftop, and give priority access to overnight guests for reservations.
FYI - my wife and I enjoyed a drink outside on the ground floor, with good service and no wait.
Overpriced hotel with worn rooms - especially the carpeting/ you need to wear slippers in room to keep your feet clean, it’s that bad.
The Living Room restaurant is ok, the Citrus Club food and drinks are good but overpriced. Sadly, The Dewberry has gone downhill.
We have stayed at 5 star hotels in the area w/more amenities & in house service than this one. But the fact that you consider yourself a 5 star luxury hotel & do not 24hr maintenance service is ridiculous.
Beautiful place. Spa was wonderful. Ambiance was amazing minus a loud fridge that kept me up and didn’t get addressed in the time I was there.
Beautiful hotel, beautiful location, amazing service and staff. This has to be a must place to stay when visiting Charleston.
Cannot say enough about the Dewberry Hotel and staff that make the stay memorable. The hotel sits in the heart of the action that Charleston has to offer, while also proving a relaxing and luxurious stay when not exploring the city and its historircal sites.
Great location and wonderful place to stay. It was within walking distance to King Street. The farmers market on Saturday was enjoyable with lots of food options. Very helpful staff.
Absolute worst hotel room EVER. There was a rattling noise in the walls and water dripping in the walls all night long. I learned from other hotel guests that 2 other couples had previously requested to move out. At this price point you would think management would be accommodating and offer some sort of credit. Instead they asked why I did not request a change in rooms, they did not refund the night stay. They did offer to refund half the incidentals and said they would get back to me. I still have not heard back. The Citrus Bar is great - but there are many other fabulous hotels in Charleston!!!
