First visit to the Dewberry for anniversary and Christmas. First of all the location is perfect. Across the Francis Marion Square from the bustle of King Street, so it’s very private, but close to all the action if you want. We loved all the natural decor with the wilderness Christmas tree and all of the forestry accents throughout the decorations. Urban Electric fixtures has a unique relationship with the hotel and make it a stand out among a sea of boring builder grade fixtures in other hotels! Gorgeous! Our Charleston flat room was one of the best we’ve ever stayed in, with a large velvet sofa for lounging at any point. The bathroom was large and spacious with a double sink and we loved the shelf above the sink with ample room for any storage. The tub and shower room was well worth the upgrade and shareable. The service was attentive, with some little extra touches that made our stay special. Make sure that you get a Dewberry candle for your stay and with the gift shop closed on Christmas, they gave us some free Dewberry tea, which we had every night for room service. The hotel car is very convenient, so please take advantage of that. And the Dewberry spa is a must. Our treatments were the best we’ve ever had with more Dewberry tea available throughout. The bar in the living room is a standout with custom made cocktails that are worth the wait! The hotel restaurant is getting a makeover, so the living room is doing extra duty to provide all the food for the hotel, so see our separate review there. Despite the heavier load, the bartenders like Chris and the servers like Madison are doing their best to make everyone welcome! We can’t wait to return!
Wed loved our 11 day stay, over Christmas, at the Dewberry. From first drive up to final departure every staff member was super friendly and helpful. They truly made us feel welcome and valued. The Living Room is a different concept and it is wonderful. Sitting there on comfortable chairs or couch that look and feel like something you would have in your own living room, admiring the huge Christmas tree and decorations, eating unbelievably good pastries and drinking a unique and delicious coffee, made us feel, well, at home. And I think that must be the overall theme. Everything looks comfy and more "homey" than you experience at most upscale hotels. Understated rather than overdone, brushed as opposed to shiny, but all very tasteful and of top quality. The location could not be better, and for our stay this time our Charleston Flat room overlooked the Square, with its giant Christmas tree of lights. Everything about the room was great, the furnishings, the bed, the bath, the linens. The entire hotel is kept spotless. Valets apologized if it took them like a minute to get your car, literally running to get your car. All with a smile. Everyone on staff is just so friendly and helpful. They truly make you feel welcomed and valued. For a hotel at this level, with the level of service received, we consider the Dewberry to be an excellent value. We can't recommend the Dewberry any higher. It is wonderful.
The Dewberry is unequivocally the most wonderful hotel in Charleston. It has the feel of a boutique hotel, with an elevated customer service and properly decor experience. Absolutely wonderful!
Both the property and hospitality exceeded my expectations. I found the hotel using the Michelin guide and booked via Amex travel. Upon arrival, Daniel checked us in and acquainted us with the property and some of the included amenities. He asked several questions about our plans and let us know there was a concierge to assist. About 20 mins after getting settled the concierge called and offered us a reservation to a restaurant we said we wanted to go and didn’t have a seating at the preferred time, but thanks to the Dewberry team, we then did. The rooms are very nice, the bedroom isn’t large but the bathrooms are. I plan on another weekend at the Dewberry!
Another great stay at The Dewberry. Even in a smaller room, the quality and comfort were just as exceptional as always. The Living Room remains a standout—the staff, the food, and the updated menu were fantastic. Looking forward to our next stay at Charleston’s best property.
The customer service was superb. Very polite and helpful.
I loved everything but the room size and style a bit small and dated for the price. Rooms are bigger at the Hampton.
The rooms are good but breakfast/the living room is not good.a lot of issues with priority and sitting area is not good for breakfast.
The hotel was great. Great staff, service and great location. Rooms were a little small but fine for two people. The hotel was very clean, and you did not notice noise from the street. The bars provided a great atmosphere. Loved the location because it was within walking distance to restaurants and activities.
My parents and I absolutely loved our stay! Everyone was so helpful and kind, especially with my accessibility needs. The rooms were perfect! There was plenty of room in the accessible shower. The service was outstanding and we will certainly be back. The Volvo car program is so great too! We utilized it a lot! The Citrus Club is a must!
The Dewberry was amazing, it had all the amenities needed. All of the staff members were friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here for a nice and relaxing couples weekend.
The room was great. Many young people using the hotel giving a vibrant atmosphere. A bit noisy at times. Food was delicious
Great hotel. The Volvo courtesy car was great - drove us to dinner each night so we saved Uber fees. Concierge arranged three dinner reservations for us on short notice. Entire staff is well trained. Will definitely stay again when in Charleston.
Staff was amazing. Great rooms
Lovely room, lavish bathroom. Great valet and housekeeping. Walkable distance from all locations we wanted to explore.
The shower was old and not inviting. The water came out of the shower head like a power washer. The caulking was gross. It’s not a 5 star experience.
I almost do not know where to begin. I will start with this: I have been lucky to stay at luxury hotels that have incomparable reputations. I travel a lot but I also live in California which has some of the best hotels in the world and I have stayed at many of them (Post Ranch Inn and Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, e.g.). Luxury hotels are not all alike; some can even be horrible, esp. related to service and at the end of the day, I don't care how gorgeous the hotel is, or how it has the best views, or free bikes, or a Michelin-starred restaurant, or an in-room butler-mixologist (happened to me at Soho House NYC), or whatever: it will always come down to service. The Dewberry must treat their staff extremely well because it shows and glows. I'm just blown away: the infectious enthusiasm and warmth, the smiles, the fun banter & the constant attention to guests who never have to worry that they aren't being extremely well cared for. I lived in South Carolina for 10 years (2000s) and visited Charleston often, and then I started coming back in 2018 for an annual conference & have been back there every year since (except 2020, for obvious reasons), but not at The Dewberry, so I decided to give it a try this year. A lot has changed from the aughts to now, Charleston has changed a lot, but one thing always remains: it is one of the most hospitable places on earth, and that's saying a lot. So the moral of this story is: in a city known around the world as a place of warm hospitality, The Dewberry took that invaluable reputation and raised the bar on it. They deserve every accolade because of their staff. We live in stressful times & many are not doing well. Many, many restaurants & hotels show the strain of this situation. & yet the Dewberry staff shine, and never once did I think, why haven't they hired more people? Staff were everywhere when you needed them! I cannot stress enough that the Dewberry must be treating their staff well for this level of service. Indeed, when it comes to service, The Dewberry Hotel has smashed it so far out of the park that *they* are now the bar. Keep this in mind as well: it is also our responsibility as guests to treat staff well and with the utmost care. It is not just the hotel's responsibility to ensure the staff will shine. Tip these people well and often and don't be in such a rush all the time (esp. in Charleston): they deserve it, they earn it, and those of us who can afford to stay here need to recognize better that we have a responsibility to spread the wealth around. We're the human family, after all.
I could also say lots of wonderful things about the architecture & design of the hotel, its perfect location for shopping & dining in downtown Charleston, its fabulous Volvo car service, its spa, its rooftop Citrus Club with the best sunset view of the city you'll ever see and kickass cocktails, etc. etc. Those are the reasons I chose The Dewberry to begin with, but I will return often because of the service.
Prior Federal Building turned into a gorgeous hotel. Loved all the windows in our Charleston Flat. Front desk folks very professional. Stay 3 and receive one night free was such a perk!!!!
tremendous option when visiting Charleston. All facets of staff possessed high-level awareness and responsiveness. Property has an excellent location, and the rear-entry valet is super efficient and accommodating.
