We loved the location?
No complaints!
The beds have excellent firmness. No stupid pillow top to be trapped in.
Beautiful wood-word throughout.
I wish there were fewer steps and handrails for all stairs. (I have lower back, lumbar issues which affects my balance.)
Breakfast is fantastic (mine was gluten free by my request). Blueberries in cream really hits the spot.
Price, $135/night vrs $207 a night at Hilton Garden Inn.
Host Randy knows a lot of the area and had great ideas for things to do, places to eat, etc.
Buster the dog is great and it looks so good to see him in the window looking out on Grant Street.
Fantastic historic home, carefully modernised without compromising any of the original. You feel like the guest of the original wealthy owner, rather than a customer. Spacious comfortable room with great shower. Probably the most comfortable “hotel” bed ever. Located 5 minutes walk from downtown restaurants, the river and the great local galleries. The host is a genuine “character” who knows his trade well and has you and fellow guests feeling like friends. Super and different breakfast each of the 3 days we stayed. Easy parking on site. Couldn’t recommend this “B and B” highly enough, the over used term “boutique” genuinely applies here. Loved our stay.
Leaving
A fantastic destination set in a stunning landscape. We were thoroughly impressed by the Stewart Inn; the architectural style feels like a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, and the accommodations are truly top-notch. The hospitality here is exceptional, as the host and caretakers treat you with top-tier, personalized care, ensuring you are their absolute main focus. They were also incredibly helpful in recommending the best local restaurants and must-visit locations in Wausau. The breakfasts were the perfect, delicious start to our days.
Stewart Inn offers an exceptional stay at a reasonable price. The home itself is incredible with its historic features. Rooms are very comfortable where it matters the most such as the bed, bedding, bathrooms, cleanliness, quietness and room amenities. Hosts Randy & Sara are very welcoming and accommodating. The multi-course breakfast is beyond delicious. We also like that it is in walking distance to the downtown area close to excellent restaurants. If I had one small comment to make it would be that the lighting in the rooms could be a bit more conducive to reading. We look forward to our return visits to Stewart Inn.
We absolutely loved our stay! The building is beautiful, especially the fireplace. We enjoyed wine out on the side porch, talking to the hosts and other guests. Breakfast was exceptional with care taken for my allergies. The room was comfortable and the parking felt secure.
The Stewart Inn was a really nice surprise!! We stayed 3 days. Every morning we were served a delicious breakfast! The coffee was excellent, as was the entire place. It was absolutely gorgeous!! The woodwork throughout this home is to die for.
I loved the dog keeper, Buster.
Next time I'll book earlier and get one of the bigger rooms.
The steam shower was ahhh- mazing!
We would most definitely stay again.
Thanks Randy, for all your hospitality!!
Randy was very welcoming and helpful. Accommodations were excellent! Very clean! Breakfast was wonderful as well. Bed was very comfortable!
Beautiful historic home with off-street parking. Everything was very clean and cozy. Lots of beautiful artwork to admire. Our room (Burt Room) was bright and cheery and the bed was very comfortable. Appreciated the hallway beverage area. It included a refrigerator with cold drinks and room for our leftovers. Breakfast was served in courses and was truly amazing. Owner and staff were very welcoming and provided great service. We would definitely stay there again.
The location is really nice! The Inn was gorgeous. It was very welcoming. Breakfast was top notch.
Buster the Inn dog-keeper was so sweet.
I even had a great experience with a local nail salon! They got me in quick and did an awesome job!!
Loved our time there.
A beautifully kept Bed and Breakfast in a historic home with all the modern conveniences. And breakfast was a feast. Located in a quiet neighborhood only blocks from main street with lots of great dinner restaurant choices and the Grand Theatre all in walking distance.
Beautiful home, I love all the woodwork! It’s a lively place to stay in Wausau. Enjoy a book in the cozy library on a rainy day
We had an amazing time at the Stewart Inn. It is such a beautiful place, we were in awe! The breakfast was delicious, and the extra amenities were appreciated. We were especially grateful Randy accommodated us through a scheduling mishap. We hope to return soon.
As business travelers we love to stay at the Stewart Inn. As partners we love to stay at The Stewart Inn! This place is a gem both from the beauty and authenticity of the house itself, as well as the innkeeper Randy who makes certain everything is perfect from an evening cocktail to a luscious breakfast.
I had an amazing stay at the Stewart Inn. Randy met me when I arrived, gave me a house tour, and even made sure I had the pillow I wanted (yes - there was a pillow menu!). The house is beautiful and very cozy. I loved the soaking tub and the fireplace. Plus, Randy made me an amazing breakfast the next morning! You can't beat the Stewart Inn. What a lovely stay!
I loved the atmosphere. The way the caretaker took care of us was amazing. The food was amazing. The way they made you feel at home and cared for you and your stay honestly will be the reason I go back more.
Loved everything.
My husband and I spent one night at the Stewart Inn recently. As first time guests of the Stewart Inn and overall atmosphere of a bed and breakfast, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communication was transparent. We were greeted warmly at the door by Randy and after initial introductions and conversation, we received a brief overview/tour of this exquisite home. So beautiful! We stayed in the Sheldon room. It had a king size bed, fireplace, steam shower, and beautiful windows/sink in the bathroom. I loved that a yoga mat was provided in the closet. The room was spacious, and timing allowed for a brief yoga session. (My husband valued the fan that was provided, also in the closet, because he likes the hum of the noise for sleeping.) We enjoyed the three course breakfast made by Randy which began at 8:30 AM. We were especially appreciative of the quality suggestions Randy made for places to eat and get a drink. The location was perfect for downtown Wausau activities, all easily accessible to walk to, including the GrandTheatre. We would be delighted to come back and stay again if we are in the area.
This was truly an extraordinary experience! I was simply looking for lodging in downtown Wausau, and stumbled upon this architectural gem. It's so nice to know that this B&B exists, and that the building itself is not just maintained, but used to such stunning effect.
No brainer to stay here. It is so beautiful. Famous architect George Maher designed this home for a lumber magnate and now you can enjoy it. Beautiful woodwork and stained glass throughout and some nice common area spots to relax with folks. Rooms are lovely with steam showers. And absolutely delicious breakfast is included with super friendly innkeeper. You will not be disappointed. Good for work or pleasure trip. Very close to art museum and great outdoor activities not too far.
