We liked the location and style of the property.
The staff were all friendly.
I did not like the fact that the shower drain in the Tower Suite constantly backed up and would not drain which resulted in having to take start/stop showers to stop the bathroom flooding.
Also there was thick dust on the ornate mirror in the bedroom and a bin that was not emptied.
Beautiful, well maintained property
It was unbelievably hot in the room as the air con wasn’t working
Location and room layout
Room wasn’t cleaned properly, lots of dust
Windows could not be open to air room and AC didn’t work so could not open windows to cool room, door handle lose on bathroom and toilet door not shutting properly
The staff, receptiion
The large griup of people on terrace when wearrived, spolit the ambience and felt brand damagung to hotel star ratung. As loud drunk sounding
A wonderful location, with great staff and delicious food. We had afternoon tea with delicious cakes and sandwiches, and the cooked breakfast was fantastic. All served by friendly and helpful staff.
As with old buildings the upper floor rooms were quite warm and the air con struggled to make a difference, but this didn’t negate the rest of our experience.
Fantastic quirky vibe, beautiful building and such friendly staff. Food was delicious, I had the lamb rump which I thoroughly recommend.
Will definitely stay again
Nothing! It was 10/10
Needs upgrading…
Tiredness
I have visited Oddfellows on the Park several times over the years for afternoon tea and special occasions, which makes it even more disappointing to be writing my first ever negative Google review.
We booked a Sparkling Afternoon Tea to celebrate an upcoming wedding. This was mentioned when we made the booking, so we were really looking forward to a special experience.
Unfortunately, the service fell well below expectations from the moment we were seated. Despite presenting our voucher and explaining several times that we had booked the Sparkling Afternoon Tea, our server still seemed unsure what we had ordered. We were served our drinks and afternoon tea, but the food was simply placed on the table without any explanation of what had been served.
When we asked what everything was, the waitress admitted she didn’t know. She went away to ask but still couldn’t identify the sandwiches or cakes correctly. We asked another member of staff who was equally unsure, even incorrectly identifying the lemon posset as the clotted cream and jam. In the end, we had no idea what many of the items were as we ate them. Every afternoon tea I’ve ever experienced, including previous visits to Oddfellows, has included someone talking guests through what they’re being served. It’s part of the experience.
Despite ordering a Sparkling Afternoon Tea, we also had to remind staff (3 times) that Prosecco was included before it was eventually brought to us.
Service throughout was lacking. Staff spent long periods chatting together rather than checking on guests. We couldn’t get anyone’s attention to ask for clean plates before moving on to the cakes, so we eventually helped ourselves to plates from an empty table. It wasn’t until we had completely finished eating that anyone asked how everything was or whether we’d like any more drinks.
Before leaving, we stopped at reception to provide constructive feedback. Rather than feeling listened to, the response focused on explaining that the serving staff were new and there had been a high turnover. While I appreciate recruitment and training challenges exist, that shouldn’t impact the experience paying guests receive. I would have expected someone to apologise, take ownership of the feedback, or ask a manager to come and speak with us. Instead, I was simply told the comments would be passed on.
This visit was particularly disappointing because Oddfellows has always been somewhere I’ve enjoyed visiting for special occasions over the years. Sadly, based on this experience, I won’t be returning. I genuinely hope management takes this feedback on board, improves staff training and customer service, and ensures future guests receive the standard of experience that Oddfellows was once known for.
26th June - SB
The room was comfortable and the bed and duvets were ali very comfortable.
The parking was a bit difficult. It was noisy. The Aircon stopped working on a very hot day. It was expensive for the facilities available.
Hottest room and most expensive in the hotel. No fans. no cold water to drink. one of the worst nights of my life!
Great hotel. Really friendly staff. Perfect breakfast made to order.
No gym.
We liked the room which was most comfortable and very nice but could not turn the air conditioning off at night, so had a very disturbed night.
Dinner was not great. When we walked in no one gave us a wine list to have a drink and I had to get up and go and ask the young man at the desk for one. I gather some of the staff were new, but you really do need to give them some basic training. We unfortunately had to complain about the beef dish which was quite chewy. The waitress was
great and immediately said they would not charge us for it, which was exactly the right attitude. The wine 528 Terranoble Pinot Noir £41 a bottle was like a £10 bottle. Very vinegary. Why did'nt we complain? We were with a friend who had flown over from Amsterdam, who we had not seen for a year, and did not want to spend the evening complaining. It can be very off putting to be having a moan all the time. When I went to pay they charged me for 2 botttles!!! Luckly I checked the bill and off course they removed one bottle. The waitress was lovely. Have to say the vegetables were really good.
