The team at the LA InterContinental is great. From the valets that take vehicles upon arrival. We saw Jerrod P many times and always with a great smile and welcome back greeting. The front desk team that checked us in, Michelle and the person who helped with my bill, susie. The lounge staff is always fantastic and it feels so great when they remember us. The person managing the elevator up to Spire 73 was great when we mentioned we just wanted a cocktail. She directed us where to sit to be comfortable and have a drink. She was right, what a beautiful night. And we love the lights of the top if the hotel.
Upon entry, Sergio & Emerson were super kind & helpful. Sergio was extremely polite & friendly, and made me feel welcome immediately! Emerson checked me in and made sure I was set to having the best experience at the hotel. Really appreciate the staff here!
Steve at the front desk was phenomenal! Exceptional service and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and hotel amenities. Room is very clean with great views of the city.
Steve was excellent - friendly, helpful and articulate. Made me feel very welcome and at home when checking in at the front desk.
One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at on the West Coast. I’ve stayed at several hotels in the LA area: Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Irvine. The room was impressive and had a great view. The only complaint I have for my entire stay was the bathroom sink drained slowly. I heard some drilling in the hotel on my second day and I was hoping it was from cleaning the pipes. I’m certain that if I complained, the drain would’ve been fixed right away, given how impressive service was at all other areas of the hotel.
Breakfast at La Bucherie is a wonderful experience, which seems to be ensured by the breakfast manager who is everywhere and great staff. I was very happy with the food and the view doesn’t fail to impress. The manager was also very impressive: I saw her all over the restaurant ensuring everything was perfect and her staff were well-supported by her. Nothing seems to escape her attention and while I was one of many people arriving without a reservation and waiting for a table, which was on a holiday weekend and took around 30 minutes to get, she apologized for the wait when my hostess and I walked by her on the way to my table. But there was no need – it seems the manager simply goes above and beyond in all aspects. The wait was comfortable, I asked for a menu, and I had a great view to pass the time. I made a reservation the next day and the waiting area still had every seat occupied and my table wasn’t ready at the reserved time but my wait was only around 2-5 minutes.
In addition to the food, the servers and the manager were very nice as well. As the breakfast manager was attending to all of the tables, I had the pleasure of speaking with her briefly when I asked about the beautiful, Austrian pin that she wears for her mother.
I was also impressed by one of the bartenders at the lobby bar, Christopher. It felt like I was drinking across from the New York Stock Exchange when he served me. He was smart and quick as a whip on a very busy night. I had a few questions and he had all of the answers, and his answers were precise and researched when necessary. I would’ve been happy with a guess.
The property includes an automatic 18% gratuity at all of its bars and restaurants and the service was always worth it.
The dinner manager at La Bucherie was also a pleasure to meet while I waited for my chocolate souffle to be prepared.
Johnathan C. provided an exceptional check-in experience. Fast, thorough, pleasant, and welcoming. Normally the check-in is one of the annoying aspects of my hotel stays but Johnathan C. made it an experience that I would look forward to having again.
I very much appreciated the free 20 minutes of valet parking during check-in. Check your watch if you take advantage of this, because although check-in took only around 5 minutes, there was a long line as it was the start of a holiday weekend.
Todo
Steve at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown made our stay exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, he greeted us with a warm smile and genuinely welcoming attitude that immediately made us feel valued as guests.
He went above and beyond by taking the time to explain how my rewards program worked and clearly outlined all of the benefits available during our stay. His knowledge, professionalism, and willingness to help ensured we got the most out of our visit.
Outstanding customer service like Steve’s makes a lasting impression. We truly appreciated his attention to detail, kindness, and dedication to providing a great guest experience. Highly recommended, and we look forward to staying here again thanks in large part to Steve’s excellent hospitality!
From Steve at the front desk upon entering the hotel for the first time, to Daniel, helping with my business pelican and luggage, to Mark, the Bellman and Gerardo, the doorman you can rest, assured that your stay will be a breath of fresh air! These incredible folks secured my return! Top notch service from check in - to checkout!!!
My wife Cecilia and I travel to Los Angeles at least once a year and there is nowhere else that we would rather stay than the InterContinental Los Angeles downtown. This is hands-down one of our favorite hotels in the world. Each stay at this property gets better than the last and much of the credit for that is clearly due to the tireless efforts of Front Office Manager Maria S. Cecilia and I had a lovely conversation with Maria at the beginning of our stay and while she was clearly in the middle of attending to several tasks, she generously took the time to have a nice chat with us and asked how our stay was going and if we needed anything. That unparalleled level of attention to the overall guest experience started even before we arrived for check-in as Kelly and Ariel from the Club Lounge Guest Relations team reached out to see what time would expected to arrive, whether we had any special requests and our preferred Diamond Royal Ambassador welcome amenity. That pre-check in outreach truly made us feel like valued guests. The entire Club Lounge Guest Relations staff is an All-Star team - in addition to Kelly, Ariel and Amy, we received first class attention from Michelle A, who remembered us from our last stay in November 2025. The Club Lounge is one of the finest that we’ve ever been to - in addition to the next level guest services, you really can’t top the 70th floor panoramic view of the city and the amazing daily F&B offerings. The Club Lounge attendants were also so friendly and efficient - special mention to Nursulu, Ling, Mara, Ira, Fabiola and Maylene. The property boasts a first class array of amenities that includes a huge fitness center (complete with steam room and sauna), spacious outdoor pool area and excellent restaurants. Our one bedroom was to die for - amazing city views, spacious bedroom and living area and spa-like bathroom. Every aspect of our stay was absolute perfection and the only downside was that we had to check-out. We cannot wait to return during our next trip to the City of Angels!
I had a Delta companion airfare that I wanted to use so after looking at many US destinations, I chose Los Angeles. I coordinated the best use of the Delta voucher (we were able fly 1st class from Orlando to LA roundtrip for just over $600 each!) I booked our arrival evening at an airport IHG hotel and then 3 nights at this hotel. As an IHG Diamond Ambassador, I receive a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast as one of my amenity choices. They also gave me welcome points, which can be an issue of confusion at IHG. Some locations read the Diamond amenity options as 1 choice of points, breakfast, or welcome drink where as others (correctly) say welcome points plus breakfast or drink. I booked a great rate and then when rebooking had my browser set on euro as I was also looking at hotels in Europe for future trips and cancelled my good rate and then realized the new booking was in euro and was $100 more when converted to US$ (my bad).
I sent a letter to the hotel about 10 days before our arrival and announced myself as IHG Diamond Ambassador with Club Lounge access due my 40+ IHG nights the prior year. I explained our planned early arrival after transferring from the HIE to downtown around noon and noted that we could wait in the Club Lounge if our room were not yet available. I received a prompt response from Maria S. She welcomed me and explained the Club Lounge hours and offerings as I had requested, the process for early check-in, the breakfast limitation-my voucher was good for 2 adults per day, including all charges (i.e. tips), but they exclude Steak & Eggs and the Benedict dish from the complimentary list. It turned out that we could have ordered those 2 dishes and paid the upcharge (amount above $34). I could have applied $25 per day F&B credit from the $39 daily Facility fee plus the $20 per stay credit I receive as an Ambassador to these 2 dishes but didn’t on this stay (next time I will)! I received a system generated email about an upgrade and responded that I should have already received an upgrade at booking (again, an Ambassador perk as is 4 p.m. check-out time); I received another prompt response, this time from Kelly C., with news of our upgrade to a Junior Suite and other information. Maria S. also responded a few days later upon return to work.
Arrival: We arrived by Lyft just after noon on Saturday 23 May and took the elevator to the 70th floor lobby. We could have checked in more quickly at another line, but I decided to wait in the one with a sign for IHG Reward members. I’m glad I did since Maris S. was there. She remembered me and explained that our room was not quite yet available and walked us to the Club Lounge, also on the 70th floor. In casual conversation along the way, I mentioned our last visit to the IC Paris Le Grand. The director of that lounge had been in LA last November when we were in Paris (a long story), but it gave Maria and me a shared thread. Kelly also remembered him although I don’t think I ever met her, but she and I did text during our stay. I showed Maria and texted same to Kelly of Monsieur Saint-Laurent in the Paris lounge on one of our many visits. In telling about that Paris stay, I mentioned how we took a smaller room than we had received as an upgrade because it had a separate bathtub (and mainly didn’t smell mucky as so many rooms do in that historical Paris landmark); Maria then changed our room to one with a separate tub so that made our stay even better and maybe our wait 15 minutes or so longer but worth it!
The room: We were assigned Room #4318. Everything was great about this room except a few issues with the bathroom design. I had a recent knee replacement so a safety bar to get in/out of deep tub would have made things easier-I didn’t slip or anything, but? Also, I don’t understand why many American Intercontinental locations don’t have a handheld spray nozzle for rinsing in the shower. Only other room issue was bathroom lighting, which lit up entire room when turned on in the middle of the night because of frosted glass divide. A separate control for the toilet room light would have been better and not disturbed the other person’s darkness! Other than these minor issues, the room was great. The city views were fantastic, the TV was good with ample channels, the bed was very comfortable, there was enough storage area, including a safe, a table with good chairs, and most importantly, everything was clean!
Breakfast: We ate at La Boucherie on the 71st floor each morning. Since I will do a separate review on TripAdvisor, I will not make any more comments than I’ve already made in my introduction except to say that Ray (on 2nd morning) and Steven (on 3rd morning) went above and beyond!
Club Lounge: We spent much time in the Club Lounge, which is open from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. We would stop by on the way to breakfast for coffee plus some bottled water. They have a buffet breakfast for those who prefer this option so I would also have my favorite breakfast meat, bacon, so I could choose another side later in the restaurant. 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. was the “Cocktail and hors d’oeuvres” time. Sweets were available all day, but each evening, some other tasty morsels, both warm and chilled, would be added. Over the 3 evenings plus for us, there were large shrimp, empanadas, charcuterie offerings, and much more with changing dishes each evening. A full bar was available with mixers, but there were only 2 wine choices, both California, one red and one white. They also let us stay there a few hours after we checked out the last day since we had a late flight home. The 3 full nights, we received great attention from Nursulu, originally from Kazakhstan. She did a great job and kept everything running smoothly (restocking, cleaning, etc.) so we gave her a little “pourboire” (tip) as they say in Paris once we found out she wouldn’t be there the very last night. We would eat a big lunch in DTLA and then have enough choices each evening to avoid eating dinner elsewhere. In conclusion, the staff was professional, the food was mostly tasty, the drinks were good (but more wine, perhaps some French choices, and diet tonic for my G&T would have been a nice addition), the hours were sufficient (some close as early as 8 p.m.), the views were spectacular, the one unisex bathroom was kept clean, etc. etc.
In conclusion, this was a fantastic stay and one I hope to do again often in the future. Because of the spire on top of the hotel, this is billed as the tallest structure on the US west coast, but not the tallest building. The uniqueness of checking in on the 70th floor and then descending to the hotel room was quirky. Access via the Metro rail was easy as we had to leave our Sunday LA tour, which was running long due to holiday weekend traffic, early in Santa Monica in order to make it back for cocktails. We were able to get back just after 6 without changing trains in just under an hour. The fare was cheap (35 cents for seniors), but we had to purchase a $10 reusable card. It was safe so getting around LA is manageable. There were several decent restaurants within easy walking distance. The Club Lounge was our favorite US Intercontinental lounge. It was close to the high standards of those in Paris, London, and Sydney. We will definitely return, and I will work with Kelly (or others) about the breakfast upgrades. Thanks for letting me write my TripAdvisor memory about such a wonderful place with so many top notch people!
We had a great stay here! Clean, modern, great views and food! We had breakfast at their onsite restaurant and dinner at their rooftop restaurant Spire and had great meals! My daughter loved the pool! It was a short drive to universal studios in the morning (12 mins to be exact). Afternoon, due to traffic, took us like 30 mins. We plan on coming back to LA in Nov and definitely considering staying here again.
Alberto was a great help everyone was friendly and very helpful would recommend to come again !
Metro is just across the street from the hotel . Very welcoming and helpful staff.
Highest building in LA, modern and safe.
