I debated whether to give this resort three stars or four stars. My husband and I traveled here through the Labor Day holiday for our anniversary. When we arrived at the resort, it was pouring down raining. The receptionist was working with another couple so we were seated in the lobby, provided a cold towel, coconut water, and a fruit kebab. The lobby was small, but aesthetically pleasing. It had a small gift shop that never was open during our stay. I presume it was because of the season and perhaps you could’ve asked if you needed something for it to be opened. We checked in and was given a quasi overview of the resort. Our bags had already been taken to the room, and we were escorted to our room. Much to my chagrin, there was no golf cart to take us to the stairs, even though it was pouring down raining. We only had umbrellas. The room was located quite a distance on the lower level with multiple stairs (about 50 steps). I was recovering from a knee injury so I knew this would not work. By the time we arrived at the room, I was soaking wet and not happy. I let the bellhop know, and he stated that he would see if another room was available with less stairs. In about 30 minutes, we were told another room was available. So I had to go and look at the room to decide if we wanted to change the room. To me it was not as nice as the one on the lower level, but for my convenience, we decided to move.
Do not get me wrong, the rooms have stunning views. However, the decor is somewhat eclectic. There is no TV but I would assume if you stay here you are not coming to watch TV. Wifi was pretty good so you could connect if you chose to. The other thing that was off putting is the bathroom. The bathroom wall does not connect to the ceiling so smells can invade the room. The other thing that was bizarre to me is that the room had no place to sit. You have an outdoor area with seating so we ended up bringing a chair from the outside into our room. There is a mini bar, but I find the prices to be high . For example a 6 ounce soda was five US dollars (I guess). The outdoor area is lovely. I found it to be relatively secluded. The pool is not heated so keep that in mind. Noise was not an issue as a resort seemed to be low occupancy. There is still construction ongoing but the noise was not a problem. Turn down service was also a nice touch.
The breakfast that was included was great along with the staff and the views. It was easy enough to get the golf cart to go down to Las Carolinas proper which has restaurants and a small beach (Danta). It is a great place to take photos. I found the restaurants to be overpriced and not very good. We found ourselves not at the resort eating and taking an Uber to Brasilito, Playa Flamingo, etc b/c there was nothing to do at the resort, but you could book excursions.
We went for our anniversary and I communicated this to the concierge via email prior to arrival along with the desire for a in room couples massage. Our anniversary was not mentioned or recognized. The massage was not documented. I was told that person I was emailing was out of the office. For this type of resort, I found this to be disappointing. We had an in room massage and the women were fine but we wanted it outside and they were adamant about doing it in the small room. Then they started changing the AC temp which seemed like it was more about them than us. There was nothing romantic about it.
On the last night we heard a crash in the water. The tile from the pool wall fell off. We let them know and they offered to change our room. It was our last night so we didn’t bother.
I am well traveled. I have stayed at a number of luxury resorts/hotels. This stay did not live up to my ideals. The views are the star here, along with some staff. We got a fair rate b/c of the season but I definitely would have been disappointed paying a higher price point. In some ways I regretted not going with another property. I settled on giving four stars b/c the views and some staff.
Our stay at Casa Chameleon in Las Catalinas was nothing short of spectacular.
If your looking for something very intimate, relaxing & secluded this is where you want to be.
From the moment we arrived, the staff at reception were incredibly welcoming & helpful throughout our entire 2 week stay!
All the staff on site were absolutely exceptional!!
We celebrated both our 30th anniversary & my husband’s birthday & the staff went above & beyond to make these both very memorable!❤️
Our room was spotless, clean & very comfortable.
The view from our room, Danta 2 was nothing but SPECTACULAR!!! 🥰
The ocean view was incredible!
Dining at Sentido Norte -
Breakfast included fresh fruit & freshly baked pastries, great start to your day.
Staff was very accommodating to alter menu items
Eg: Derryk very much enjoyed his steak & eggs!
The food was all excellent!!
Once again the staff was exceptional!
If I had to provide any complaints it would be to provide a stool of some sort in the shower. It would make shaving your legs less challenging!
Thank you to all the staff, I know it makes it a lot more personal of a review to name specific staff members but we can honestly say all the staff were remarkable!
You guys honestly made Derryk & I have a vacation to remember with amazing memories!
We will be back!!
Derryk & Penny❤️
Had massages in Costa Rica, Las Catalinas. Best massages I've ever had! The girls are incredibly talented! Perfect after a few days of adventures!
This property offers gorgeous views from all sides of the resort. They are known for having the best location to view sunsets in the area. The staff are top notch, service is impeccable.
We especially enjoyed the wine tasting experience, and poolside service was great. We visited during the rainy season but were lucky with the weather, all mornings were clear and sunny except one.
This resort is a great place to rejuvenate. It is a bit secluded so if you wanted to visit the local town you need a taxi. They offer a host of excursions, including hiking, adventure tours, and fishing. The location is walkable to the local beach, in a small town under development. Just a beautiful location.
Highly recommend!
Wonderful experience at this resort. The resort is secluded, and the staff are attentive. Great experience. My husband and I ordered spa services and enjoyed the Chameleon Signature couples massage given by Paola and Maria.
Food is fantastic, tons of hiking trails, very nice resort.
From the very beginning, our experience was unforgettable thanks to the incredible team at Casa Chameleon.
• Milton welcomed us the moment we arrived, setting the tone for our stay with his professionalism, warmth, and genuine hospitality. That first impression carried through the rest of our visit.
• At the restaurant and bar, Gregory, Andy, Dahiana (manager), Victor, Carlos, Eduardo, Randy, and Roberto consistently went above and beyond. Whether it was at breakfast, dinner, or enjoying cocktails by the pool, each of them made sure we had everything we needed—always with a smile and personal touch that made us feel at home.
Dahiana’s leadership was clear in the smooth, welcoming flow of the restaurant. Gregory and Andy kept things lively and engaging, while Victor and Carlos offered attentive, friendly service that never missed a beat. Eduardo and Randy were amazing at the pool, ensuring every moment of relaxation was effortless. Roberto’s thoughtful attention rounded out the experience, making sure no detail was overlooked.
This team embodies what true hospitality is all about: warmth, care, and genuine pride in their work. Casa Chameleon is breathtaking, but it’s these people—Milton, Gregory, Andy, Dahiana, Victor, Carlos, Eduardo, Randy, and Roberto—who make the stay extraordinary. Their managers should be proud to have such a dedicated, welcoming team representing the resort.
Casa Cameleon was excellent in every way. Incredible service, kind staff, caring, and beautiful place. I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a hidden gem in Costa Rica!
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Hotel Las Catalinas, and it exceeded all our expectations. The hotel itself is beautiful — clean, welcoming, and ideally located — but what truly made our experience unforgettable was the exceptional service.
A huge shoutout and heartfelt thanks to Dayana, Ailyn, and Andrés! From the moment we arrived, they provided some of the best service we’ve ever experienced. Always friendly, professional, and attentive, they went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home. Whether it was during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they greeted us with a warm smile and consistently made sure everything was perfect.
If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend staying at Hotel Las Catalinas. Not only will you enjoy a beautiful hotel, but you'll also be taken care of by an amazing team who truly love what they do. Can’t wait to return!
The hotel, rooms, location, and staff were absolutely amazing.
My wife and I traveled to Casa Chameleon to celebrate a milestone birthday. We have young children, and the escape provided by the adults-only resort was welcomed. This meant our stay was quiet and composed, without our children or anybody's children running around, screaming, or having tantrums. I love my kids, but just being honest on this point...
We stayed in a suite which had a small living room attached to the bedroom. The extra space provided by the suite was very nice, as we also entered a regular room during our stay for a massage (more on that, below) and the suite definitely provides nice extra space to stretch out.
Every accommodation has a plunge pool (as I understand it) which is a surprisingly nice way to conclude a morning workout to cool down, and also to spend part of the afternoon when it is very hot, the sunset to wind down the day, and after dark hours to just relax and have a nice conversation with your companion. The plunge pool was simply a major amenity, allowing enjoyment in so many different ways. So, so nice...
The views from every location on this property are stunning. Our room faced to the sunset which was just amazing every day. The beautiful blue water and the waves gently arriving at the beach were soothing to look out at throughout the day. We also watched the boats transiting through the area, with sailboats of different sizes and fishing boats as well. The boats were a nice touch of activity to complement the already beautiful ocean views. The views from the restaurant and bar were just as good. The sunset ceremony at the bar was a fun punctuation to each day.
While the views and the rooms were excellent, they weren't even the best part of the stay. That distinction belongs to the service provided by the staff. Without exception, every employee across the board - from initial arrival at check-in to landscaping to housekeeping to spa providers to restaurant/bar staff - was exceptionally professional, took the time to learn our names, and singularly focused on our enjoyment during our stay. Whatever we needed, they were eager to provide and followed through promptly with a smile. It really took our stay to the next level.
The spa treatments available on the property were quite a nice touch as well. There were a range of service provided, usually in your own room for convenience and privacy, but at some times of the year (including during our stay) in a designated room on the property. I actually preferred going to another room for the couples massage my wife and I enjoyed. I had a deep tissue massage while my wife had a combination massage service. Paula and Marcela were exceptionally proficient massage therapists who left my wife and I feeling so relaxed after our massages. We really didn't want the massages to end.
I feel like I could go on and on, because the stay at Casa Chameleon was so enjoyable. I very highly recommend this accommodation if you want someplace utterly relaxing where you will be treated like a combination of royalty and family.
My sincere thanks to all the staff at Casa Chameleon for going above and beyond during our stay!
Casa Chameleon is a beautiful resort. The people & service are great. The food was amazing (albeit very expensive) at the resort & Las Catalinas. We went during the "rainy season" in late August-early September and maybe it was just when we went but the resort & Las Catalinas felt very empty. There were hardly any activities or people around other than staff. There were times when we were bored because there just really isn't much to do at the resort on days we didn't have excursions planned. We were the only ones at the pool most days. This can be great for some people but we were looking for more things to do & not such a quiet resort. Of note the rooms do not have TVs.
The beach is subpar at best. It's a public beach that you can walk 10 minutes to or the golf cart can take you. There are also no chairs to sit on.
We were also hoping for much more wildlife than we saw. We didn't see any monkeys or sloths, just saw 1-2 iguanas. We did see their raccoon population though and a few crabs & kitties.
Overall if you are looking for a very quiet relaxing vacation & don't want to see very many people then I highly recommend it. We would definitely go back to Costa Rica but I don't think we would go back to Casa Chameleon given we want more activities & wildlife.
It was great, quiet, clean, and attentive staff.
My husband and I enjoyed the four days we stayed at Casa Chamaleon. The attention to detail is next to none. Immaculate cleanness. Every one of the people who work there are extremely attentive. Food... delicious, drinks excelent. Honestly not one single complaint. I had one of the BEST MASSAGES EVER. Pau and Marcela are very professional. We will definitely recommend this beautiful place and make sure everyone gets a massage!
This resort is one of the most magical places I’ve stayed at. The view, the food, and especially the people were beyond our expectations! My husband and I stayed for 6 nights to celebrate our honeymoon and i wouldn’t have wished to have spent my honeymoon anywhere else! The customer service is exceptional at casa chameleon, anything you want it’s at your door with no trouble what so ever. The views from each villa is gorgeous! You even have a shower w glass doors that overlook the pool and the beautiful ocean. Theres a town down the street that you can ask the staff to drive u to and when you’re done all you have to do is sent a text to the front desk and someone’s already on their way to pick you up and bring you back to the resort. I couldn’t recommend this place more, especially for couples looking to relax and soak up the sun and beautiful views from your own private plunge pool❤️
Such a beautiful and relaxing property. Highly recommend.
This was our 4th stay at Casa Chameleon Las Catalinas. It's always a good time. We often spend at least one day around the pool and/or in our villa and in our own plunge pool. It is very relaxing. We also enjoy exploring the area nearby by car, visiting local nearby beaches, going out on the water to snorkel and find dolphins, whales, and turtles. This year we did not go down to Las Catalinas, hike the trails of Las Catalina's, or visit Danta beach because of a large race going on for 3 of the days we were there. But we typically enjoy all of those too.
One of the best views i have everseen and from your villa and shower, incredible and the service very personalised
Fernanda and Andy and Gravier the front office /lobby attendants and Glen and Milton were amazing! at the Sentido Norte reastaturan the waiters Omer, Andres, Christian, Ana Isabel, bartenders, etc teh chefs etc were truly exceptional, from the room cleaning staff to the highest positions were all very humble and professional. The owners of this resort are extremely lucky to have these staff are an amazing asset to the resort.
The hotel is beyond beautiful and the staff are incredibly kind. The service was exceptional. Our room was spotlessly cleaned twice daily. Our plunge pool was lovely and the view was like none other. The bed was huge and super comfy. I would absolutely stay here again.
My ONLY complaint is everything in Las Catalinas is insanely over-priced. Not just typical touristy prices, but actually comical. Plain iced coffee was $10. A cheeseburger was $34. Less than 5 miles away are other beach towns (like Potrero) with much more reasonable pricing. Do not book anything through the hotel. They quoted me $180 round trip for a 15 min drive. When I declined they came back with $70 round trip. We ubered for $10 each way. Excursions were similar with insane price hikes compared to what we paid. Book directly for the best prices.
Highly recommend staying here but leaving to eat, drink, and play!
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like we were the only couple at the resort. The attention to detail, genuine kindness, and personalized service were unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.
The views were absolutely breathtaking. Even the golf cart ride down to the beach was such a fun and unique touch. Every excursion we did was incredible, and we highly recommend both the fishing charter and the catamaran. The crews on both were knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience unforgettable. The food and drinks on the catamaran were especially outstanding!
This trip is something we’ll be talking about for a very long time. A massive thank you to every single staff member who made it so special—you were all absolutely amazing and left us feeling so full of joy and gratitude.
10/10—we can’t wait to come back.
