Property Description

At The Society Hotel, we believe in making every traveler feel authentically connected to our community so they are ready to enjoy our beautiful city from day one. We offer three ways to experience our unique hotel: bunk rooms for the affordable community experience; private rooms with shared bathrooms for comfort without excess; and suites for a bit of affordable luxury. All of our rooms come with plush beds, 10-foot windows, high speed wifi, and a hospitality experience unlike any other. We also offer ADA compliant rooms for guests requiring greater ease of access. The Society Hotel Portland is a LEED Silver, 100% non-smoking property in Old Town Chinatown, steps from the waterfront, the Burnside Bridge, restaurants, shops and concert venues, with a rooftop deck, rooftop spa and sauna, and a lobby cafe.

Cool place, great value
Pros:

I loved coming down and having a coffee shop in the lobby that served a healthy yoghurt bowl that I could enjoy by the fireplace.
I also loved being so close to the Max line right to downtown or the airport.
The antique staircase was cool and I liked taking that rather than the elevator

Cons:

My room was a little cool for me at night. I used the complimentary terry cloth robe as an extra blanket.

Pros:

I liked the price of the stay. Once inside the hostel, it was actually really nice and full of great details. The shared bathroom was very clean. The room I stayed in was a bit small, with no room to really move (fortunately, I was by myself, or it could have been much worse). I also really did like how close it was to the public rail line.

Cons:

The location had a lot to be desired. I read about the problem with unhoused individuals, but it was worse than I expected, and it made me uncomfortable to venture out after dark. Although it was not the hostel's fault, the streets were also covered in trash everywhere.

Terrifying we left at midnight to find a regular motel.
Pros:

The pictures on the Internet look real cute lobby was cute.

Cons:

The rooms are a jail cell with a towel a hand towel placed in the bed and ear plugs on the scary little sink in the bedroom. THERE ARE NO PRIVATE RESTROOMS THIS IS LIKE A HOSTEL (or brothel) and has poor advertising on that. That is why there are no pictures of the rooms! Took my four year old there 🤦‍♀️half naked women hanging out in the hallway taking drunk men in the room. They could/would not move us to a room with a private bathroom. It was honestly all around terrifying on top of having to park over two blocks away because who knows what was happening at the parking lot across the street. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY IN MY OPINION AND POOR ADVERTISING OF THE ACTUAL SET UP!

Great value and conveniently location hotel,
Pros:

Great safe and comfortable hotel inside. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. The hotel is great value for money and offers a lovely coffee shop and rooftop to enjoy a drink with a view. Location wise it is very convenient and walkable to key areas.

Cons:

The surrounding area is slightly rough round the edges. We had zero issues, even when walking back late at night after being at bars in Pearl District but it could make some people feel uncomfortable. Didn’t feel threatened in anyway and as long as you keep vigilant you’ll be absolutely fine.

A great oldtown experience
Pros:

We liked the experience of an historical building and we wanted to be right in old town Portland. The price was right where it needs to be for what you receive in accommodations. Rooms and bath were very clean and well maintained.

Cons:

Well, the homeless situation is sad.
Also not having a bath in the room is era correct and part of the experience but requires the acceptance of the inconvenience.

It was a great place to stay that matched the price.
Pros:

Hotel felt safe as key fobs were required for entry and elevator. Staff was very friendly. The hotel was clean and rooftop was a great added bonus.

Cons:

The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The parking was a block and a half away so planning was required to access your vehicle.

Pros:

Unfortunately the location needs help with the drug infested location. I really think this condition is subsequently affecting the staff mental well being.
