Krásný hotel na krásném místě.
This Hilton has 5 elevators and with the exception of one chair in each room and the restaurants, all the seating everywhere in the hotel is about 14” off the ground. If you’ve had surgery or are over 55 you will likely be stuck in your room on your bed. There’s no warm place to gather with friends - even young ones. This is a very sterile setting from the 90’s.
The pool opens at 10:30 and closes at 6 so patrons at the restaurant don’t have to be annoyed by bathers. This is a problem in the new hotter summers - and no, there’s no seating around the pool higher than about 12”.
Location, facilities and staff
Nothing
We had a wonderful stay at Hilton Lake Como. Patrizia made check-in seamless and welcoming, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The rooms were spacious, spotless, modern, and even better than the photos.
The rooftop restaurant offers amazing views, the pool is relaxing, and the breakfast buffet was the best we had on our trip—our whole family loved it. We also appreciated the location: slightly removed from the busy town center, it felt like a peaceful retreat while still being an easy and safe 20-minute walk into town. The train station was just a short taxi ride away.
From check-in to breakfast to help with bags and taxis, there was always a helpful hand. A perfect hotel for families visiting Lake Como.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Hilton Lake Como was deeply disappointing because it involved what I consider misleading room marketing and a complete lack of customer service when the issue was raised.
Months before our trip, I prepaid for a King Premium Room with Lake View, a non-refundable room category marketed on Hilton’s website as offering a “breath-taking view of the Lake.” The photos showed a clear, unobstructed lake view from the room.
What we received was something entirely different.
Our room was on a lower floor where the vast majority of the view consisted of neighboring buildings and rooftops. There was only a tiny sliver of the lake visible in the distance. Calling this a “lake view” stretches the definition beyond reason. It certainly was not the “breath-taking view of the Lake” that Hilton advertised and charged a premium for.
When I brought this to the front desk’s attention immediately after check-in, the response was essentially that because a small portion of the lake was technically visible, it qualified as a lake-view room. Staff acknowledged that guests on higher floors in the exact same room category enjoyed dramatically better views, and confirmed that we paid the same rate as those guests. Despite that, no adjustment, accommodation, or meaningful solution was offered.
We were told there were no alternative rooms available. However, shortly afterward, my partner witnessed another guest complain about their room and be moved from the fourth floor to the fifth floor—the very type of relocation we had requested. That made the situation even more frustrating.
What disappointed me most was not simply the room itself. Hotels sometimes make mistakes, and inventory can be limited. The real issue was the complete absence of ownership, empathy, or effort to make things right. There was no apology, no acknowledgment that the marketing photos did not match our actual experience, and no goodwill gesture whatsoever.
Lake Como is a destination where many travelers save, plan, and book months in advance specifically for the views. We certainly did. To pay a premium for a non-refundable “lake view” room and then spend the stay looking mostly at rooftops and neighboring buildings significantly diminished our experience.
To be fair, the rest of the hotel was perfectly fine. The property is modern, clean, and well maintained. Unfortunately, the handling of this issue overshadowed everything else.
If you book here, be aware that a “Lake View” room may not resemble the photos used to sell it, and if you end up with one of the lower-floor rooms, don’t expect much assistance from management.
We will not be returning.
