After climbing **Mount Kilimanjaro** and heading straight into a safari, we were definitely ready for a comfortable night's sleep!
With a flight from Nairobi to London the following evening, we decided to keep things simple and stay at the **Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport** for one night in July 2026. We booked a Standard Room using IHG One Rewards points, and the main attraction was, quite simply, **convenience**.
And for that purpose, it worked well.
Perfect for the Airport
The hotel is very close to **Jomo Kenyatta International Airport** and offers a complimentary shuttle service, making it a practical option if you have an early flight, a late arrival or, like us, simply don't want to spend your final day in Kenya worrying about Nairobi traffic.
That last point is worth remembering.
You can get into central Nairobi by Uber in roughly **30–40 minutes**, but traffic can be unpredictable, so I'd allow plenty of extra time if you're travelling to or from the airport.
After a busy couple of weeks travelling around East Africa, being able to stay close to the airport was exactly what we needed.
A Comfortable Final Night
The hotel itself is modern and comfortable, although unfortunately I didn't take many photos of the room.
What I *did* photograph was one of the impressive light fittings in the main atrium — definitely one of the more striking features of the public areas.
And then there's breakfast.
After climbing Kilimanjaro and going on safari, I had absolutely no intention of leaving Kenya without making the most of breakfast!
The food was very good and provided a welcome opportunity to refuel before our flight home.
One Unsettling Incident
Unfortunately, there was one incident during our stay that I think prospective guests should be aware of.
When we returned to the hotel on our second day after going into Nairobi for lunch, we discovered that **our room door was not fully closed**.
We can only assume that the door had not properly latched after the room had been serviced, although we obviously cannot know exactly what happened.
Thankfully, we didn't notice anything obviously missing from the room at the time.
However, after returning to London, we discovered that some jewellery was missing from our belongings.
This is where I want to be very clear and fair: **we cannot say whether the jewellery went missing at the hotel or at the airport**. Our suitcases had stickers indicating that they had been security searched at the airport, so there were two possible points at which the loss could have occurred.
For that reason, I wouldn't want to accuse the hotel of something I simply can't prove.
However, finding your hotel room door open when you return is unsettling enough, and discovering missing valuables afterwards made the experience particularly concerning.
My Advice: Use the Safe
Regardless of where our jewellery disappeared, the experience has reinforced something I would strongly recommend to anyone travelling:
**Keep your valuables in the hotel safe, and keep anything particularly important in your hand luggage when travelling.**
Don't leave jewellery, passports, cash or other irreplaceable valuables sitting in your suitcase — particularly when you have multiple stages of a journey ahead of you.
We ultimately had to make a claim through our travel insurance.
Which brings me to another important piece of advice:
**Always have travel insurance.**
Hopefully you'll never need it. But when something does go wrong, you'll be very glad you have it.
Would I Stay Again?
For a short airport stopover, the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport is certainly convenient.
The complimentary airport shuttle, proximity to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, comfortable accommodation and decent breakfast all make it a sensible choice if you're looking for somewhere to stay before or after a flight.
Our experience was unfortunately overshadowed somewhat by the room-door incident and the subsequent discovery of missing jewellery, although, as I've said, **I cannot establish that the hotel was responsible for the loss**.
For me, that means this review comes with an important caveat rather than a straightforward recommendation.
If you do stay here, I'd suggest making full use of the room safe, checking that your door has properly locked whenever you leave, and keeping valuables with you rather than in your checked luggage.
**Verdict: A convenient and comfortable airport hotel that served its purpose well after an epic East African adventure — but our experience with the unsecured room door means I'd advise taking extra care with valuables.**
Used hotel booked shuttle from Wilson airport at USD 45. Driver was 30 minutes late to pickup and avoided tolll roads making 12 km rude take nearly an hour 7 minutes max on toll roads.
Spacious, comfortable room, great rooftop bar, very friendly staff.
lack of plugs in the room was a problem, some simple USB outlets would have been nice, the upstairs bar was very expensive, more than it should have been
Perfect airport layover
An absolutely wonderful stay! From the warm welcome to the impeccable service, everything was exceptional. The rooms were comfortable, beautifully maintained, and spotless. The linen and towels always white & crisp. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
The buffet was a wide spread with a number of choices. Here, I take an opportunity to thank Chef Arun for giving us a warm welcome, always greeting us with a beautiful smile and serving us the most delicious food. The warmth, kindness and hospitality extended by Arun made our time in Crowne Plaza truly special. We highly recommend this place. Cheers
The staff were very unhelpful. No porters. The room had no notepad and the fridge was turned off(and empty)
We ordered a bottle of wine to drink in the velocity bar, staff did not pour, but spent the entire time on their phones.
This was probably the best possible airport hotel stay we could have ever had. This hotel is completely flawless and deserving of its 5-star rating. From the moment we were picked up by the complimentary shuttle after requesting it at the Nairobi airport Crowne Plaza desk to our flexible late checkout, we had a wonderful experience. Every single staff member, down to the interns, was kind, accommodating, and helpful. We enjoyed using the gym, which was frequently cleaned every 30 minutes, and the food in the Velocity Lounge was great. Shout out to Dickson and Sarah for being our great servers for lunch and breakfast respectively.
The only tiny thing is that Wi-Fi speed is variable between rooms, but the IT desk helpfully addressed and fixed this for us so we could take business calls.
Standard international tres agréable et qualité nourriture très bien pour un prix très raisonnable. Personnel compétent et professionnel !
L’espace Piscine est sympathique mais très petit. Et pour déjeuner sur la terrasse c’est un peu riquiqui.
Easy access to airport
It was not so important and we were expected a view to field and motor way was not great.
Helpful staff, smooth transfer from airport
