Nice cosy country pub to relax in front of a warm fire on a cold day. Friendly staff, thanks to Sam for volunteering to drive me to the station.
At least a mile from the station, not good if you have mobility issues. I made the mistake of booking a single room. Although adequate, I didn’t realise how small it would be. As well it was directly above the kitchen where loud music thumped til about 9pm. My advice is to book one of the large rooms which looked really nice and spacious.
Staff were very friendly and worked fast to sort my complaints about the room once I raised them. Breakfast also was great.
The room was very dirty - dog hair and mud on the floor, dog food on the floor in the bathroom and grime on the surfaces. Sink was broken. The room also had a lot of road noise.
Old Hall and it's staff treated us very well. We only wish we'd stayed longer!
Fantastic stay, beautiful hotel and wonderful staff - felt taken care of and everyone was so personable, the room was also super clean and the included breakfast was delicious. Felt like a true countryside hospitality experience.
Location was also fantastic, you can walk to Castleton in about 40 minutes by following the road OR take the bus which takes about 6 minutes. SO easy to get to and tons to do. Visit the Peak Cavern (Devil's arse), walk up to Speedwell Cavern from there and walk up to Mam Tor - on the way there's Treak Cavern which is GREAT. Very walkable from this hotel! The train station is also very close so you can visit all the nearby towns.
Loved everything honestly, one thing I will say is the floor is creaky so I was always mindful of other guests - and sometimes it got a bit loud due to the pub being below the room, but that's because we went to bed quite early after long walks during the day. Something to keep in mind, but didn't affect us much!
Brilliant, friendly staff. A period inn full of character, warm and welcoming.
Great beers, and excellent kitchen service. Chefs specials were delicious. And filling!
Nothing, really. Budget twin room was "compact" but ok for one night.
Warm, friendly staff and great food. Lovely old pub with a real fire. We had a really lovely time
