The uncle who handled our check-in was extremely rude. It honestly felt like we were checking into a prison rather than a hotel. We greeted him with a smile, but he responded with a cold expression and an unfriendly tone throughout the entire check-in process.
People with this kind of attitude should not be working in the hospitality industry. It felt as though he looked down on us, perhaps because we are foreigners. Even at budget hotels, reception staff usually greet guests with basic courtesy or at least remain neutral. We weren’t expecting exceptional service—just simple respect.
Checking in guests is part of the job, and customers should not have to experience someone’s bad mood or personal frustrations. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this was a very disappointing start to our stay.

My experience at Hotel 81 Changi was extremely disappointing, mainly due to the behavior of the front office staff—an older gentleman and a middle-aged man—who were rude, disrespectful, and lacked basic customer service skills.
When I made my reservation, I had already requested an early check-in. Upon arrival, after an overnight flight with my 2-year-old son, I politely enquired about the possibility of checking in early so that we could rest before our next long flight later that day. While I completely understand that the hotel may have been fully booked and unable to accommodate my request, the way the staff responded was unacceptable. They showed no willingness to listen, no empathy for our situation, and spoke in a manner that was discourteous and unprofessional.
I was not expecting special treatment—only a respectful explanation if an early check-in was not possible.
The staff's attitude left such a negative impression that I decided not to stay at the hotel at all. I left immediately and booked another hotel instead. Even if they had later offered me a room, I would not have felt comfortable staying there after the way we were treated. 0/10. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
