We had a wonderful and relaxing stay with the whole family in a dreamful located hotel-resort full of totally friendly people working there on a high comfort level, situated 10 m beside a perfect beach to enjoy swimming and playing in the sea and on the clean and well prepared beach. The meals were made of high quality products and consisted mainly local products… how we prefer ist. The villas are as beautiful as you could dream of it full with details to make a comfortable and luxury feeling in this wonderful nature. We come again.
I had an amazing time and experience at Underneath The Mango Tree hotel. I came for a 10 day Ayurveda pure retreat. For me, it was the first experience with Ayurveda and it was convenient to do it at UTMT resort. The food was so delicious, the Ayurveda treatment so relaxing and the hotel itself beautiful. Private beach, beautiful pool. I can definitely recommend UTMT for an Ayurveda retreat!
Great location, excellent seaview from the restaurant, wow, what a panorama 😃🥰🌊, great large pool for all guests and additional privat pool in our room, great cook serving great food everyday, even so we where there for ayurveda, very very friendly staff, great treatments all done by the perfect auyurveda team, incl. doctors & ayurveda staff, 🤗 and on top perfect weather even during October which should be Monsun time
Good location with a view of the beach, but that’s most of Ahangama.
It goes on booking.com as a 5 star hotel, but it barely is a 3 star hotel experience. Everything was ridiculously overpriced and expensive. The kitchen staff had gone home by 9:30 even though they said the last order was at 10 PM so we didn’t get to have dinner. They charged us extra for room service (for brining some food that we had seperately paid for) and lacked the charm you’d expect from a fairly small boutique hotel. They try and palm it off as authentic “Sri Lankan”, but everything was lacking finesse, just cheaply done. I hated my stay here. I even cut my hand on the chair which was broken on the sides. When you shower, it can be seen from the next room. This is one of those places where it’s disingenuous. Even the food was cold.
Beautiful hotel with stunning views. The staff were attentive and the food was delicious. There was so much to do - yoga, meditation, beach, pool, painting, pottery, movies etc. We were sad we could only stay for 2 nights!
Amazing. The hotel is located on a hill next to a private beach (waves are pretty strong but safe to enjoy in the shallow). Beautiful views from the pool and the restaurant. Room is comfortable, stylish. Everything well thought to the smallest details.
Nothing! It was all great!
Hello, I would like to share my experience.
Hotel UTMT is the most comfortable place in Sri Lanka, people, massage, food, accommodation, everyone will do their best for you, I can only recommend it. They are like my second family. In the course of 2 years, I returned to this place 6 times, in January 2025 I wanted to return 7 times.
There was a problem here, namely incredibly bad communication with the manager at the reservation department, not responding to e-mails, even for 2-3 weeks, then again waiting for further responses. As a regular customer, I received the highest prices when planning 7 visits, I didn't feel welcome at all, I wanted to book a specific room (which they sold to another customer without my knowledge! and they convinced me to cancel the reservation) after 4 weeks of extremely bad communication , the manager advised me that it would probably not be appropriate for me to visit their hotel and that I should reconsider my visit. And he offers a room that doesn't have a view, or the right location, and a high price, and you think it's okay. A NONSENSE customer who spends more than 28,000 euros in their facility in two years is not welcome? The owner should think about whether such a person is in the right position, I believe that the owner will deal with my complaint, because he is losing good, loyal customers.
I am extremely disappointed with the approach and communication with an existing and regularly returning customer, such communication and failure to solve the problem is unacceptable.
Absolutely loved our stay with our two puppies. Gorgeous property. From front desk to spa to kitchen staff everyone was very friendly and attentive.
This hotel provides a unique and exceptional Ayurvedic experience in a luxurious setting. Every detail is carefully considered to ensure a top-notch guest experience, from the warm airport welcome with fresh fruit to the nightly mosquito net setup and luxurious towels. The pool is stunning, and the spa is expertly managed.
During our 8-night stay, I indulged in Ayurvedic treatments while my husband enjoyed his own activities. He appreciated the delicious food and coffee options. I had daily consultations with the doctor and relaxing massages, which left me feeling rejuvenated, healthy, and clear-minded.
I am grateful to the dedicated staff at this outstanding resort for making our stay unforgettable.
The location, the property and the staff are amazing. We were greeted with a welcome drink and we were made to feel right at home upon check-in. The service and every detail of the hotel are amazing. We loved those aspect of our stay.
Unfortunately, the room category we booked (a two bedroom villa) was not available due to "unresolved maintenance issues" when we arrived at the property. The 2-bedroom villa costs more than two times the price of a one bedroom villa. The hotel did not notify us in advance of this problem, but instead we were told at check-in that we would be put into a one bedroom villa, and offered a free private dinner on the beach to make up for the loss. But we were still charged the 2-bedroom villa rate, which in retrospect, I should not have accepted. And it was clear the property wasn't sure whether we would accept their offer of a 1-bedroom villa at check-in, as they had not written our name on the property door until the second day.
Second, the way our family of four were accommodated to the room was by adding two single beds to the non-air conditioned living room portion of the unit, resulting in a very uncomfortable night of sleep for those in the non-AC portion of the unit for the first night. We did not know initially that only the bedroom had AC until that evening when we retired in the room.
The property also knew we were uncomfortable, as their crew arrived the morning after our first night there, before I had a chance to complain about the AC issue, and offered to move all 4 beds into the one air conditioned bedroom. We accepted their solution, since we were only staying two nights in total.
It wasn't the experience we were looking for at this beautiful property on the beach. Given the maintenance issue of the two bedroom villas, if we had been given two one-bedroom villas, or given the rate for one one-bedroom villa, my review would have been 5 stars across the board.
Staff were so friendly and helpful. Couldn’t do enough for you.
The views are fabulous
The restaurant staff were very accommodating and would always make something suitable for my kids.
Sometimes I was conscious of the kids making noise as a lot of other guests were there for treatments and relaxing. But there was an area in the reception for kids to play with toys where they were welcome to play.
Such a unique and beautiful spot on the southern coast of Sri Lanka with the most friendly team!!!
Booked a long stay here as a treat for a rubbish year and my birthday.
Room minute, balcony minute, open-plan bathroom, which is also open to the elements, so having a shower in a torrential downpour is "challenging"! The rooms, bathrooms and public areas are all very dark, too, meaning to be able to see anything you need to switch on a light. This seems to contradict the eco ethos.
Ayurveda so far very good and the Ayurveda area is by far the most pleasant and cleanest I have encountered in Sri Lanka.
Staff are friendly and willing, but do not necessarily understand English to a high degree, which makes things a little complicated.
There are only 2 usable electric sockets, one in the bathroom area, one in the bedroom, which I find totally unacceptable, even though I brought an extension lead with 3 sockets with me.
Wifi is very good for Sri Lanka.
Food is ok, but there is no choice and far too much, which is causing me issues. It is difficult to make people understand that I do not want 3 meals a day consisting of 3 courses - or 4 in the evening. I find it especially problematic that all this food is presented when the ayurvedic treatment involves daily laxitives!
All rooms are situated in various houses with no direct access to the main reception area, Ayurveda Spa or restaurant. Umbrellas are provided and required!
At the moment I get the impression that I have shelled out a lot of money for something mediocre and cannot decide whether to shell out more and leave or stick it out - hence why this review is Part 1.
We stayed for th three days and we wish we had stayed longer. This is a lovely resort style hotel on the beach, private swimming pools, and excellent restaurant and high quality ayeravedic spa and treatments. The rooms were spacious, the fittings fun and charming. Lots of coll additional service such as an inhouse tailor, free yoga and mediation lessons, and afternoon tea. he private hotel beach is clean and well guarded. The staff were excellent and we enjoyed everything about this stay. T
Had a great view from the restaurant and the pool was great.
Washrooms were poor quality, although functional. Also the unit was walled all the way around, so poor ventilation so during the day it was very warm. Only the room had AC. Spend 21 days traveling in Sri Lanka, I would say this property had the worst breakfast or meals of all the 6 properties we stayed during this trip.
