The Royal Hotel

Het wordt gerenoveerd. Dat is nodig want goede geluidsisolatie mbt boulevard verkeer kan beter .

As a traditionalist I thought that this beautifull old hotel has been destroyed by putting modern furniture and wall paper in it, the bar area looked more like a milk bar from the 60s with no atmosphere, if I had known in advance that it was a coach hotel catering for mostly old age pensioners and no evening meals after 6.30pm I would not have booked it.

I have no doubt this was once an stunning and beautiful hotel, but...

The interior is incredibly tired
Our bath had hairs in it which we mentioned to the receptionist before we headed out after check-in but they were still there upon our return in the evening so we did the cleaners job for them.
Breakfast - it's the first time I've been offered a continental option without pastries. My husband and I asked had cooked options. He specidically said no beans, but they were piled on anyway. There was a large coach group in the main dinind room so he opted to eat around them knowing the one person on breakfast duty was very busy. I opted for scrambled eggs on toast. The eggs were over cooked, dry and rubbery and were cold by the time my toast arrived.
After breakfast, I asked reception for an ironing board. He gave it to me there and I then had to carry it up 4 flights of stairs with the iron - not great service at all.
On 2 occasions, once leaving, and once returning to the hotel we had to help customers with walkers up and down the stairs. Considering the majority clientale of the hotel and the fact there is only stair access, I would expect someone to be on hand to help with this at all times.

Couldn't get a sea view, although booked months in advance. Found out only once I'd arrived, that there was scaffolding from top to bottom all over the hotel mostly on the front for renovation purposes. Scaffolding was across the sea view windows, so I assume that's why there were no sea view rooms available, but was not informed of this.

Scaffold outside and post painting aroma in the room were tolerable but not ideal. Cleaning was good but not immaculate, eg behind doors bit dusty, but nothing of importance that spoiled our stay.
Otherwise all great, with sea view and friendly and helpful staff.

The property is very run down the shower might have been the worst shower I have ever had in a hotel

my toilet broke, staff wouldn’t knock to come to do housekeeping which i was there 5 days they only came on the last day. toilet broke and they replaced it with smth that was also broken the shower didn’t get hot the bedding was dirty our window leaked terribly and many more

We were not made aware of the scaffolding all over the front of the property, as we may have gone somewhere else if we had known.

Lack of parking. Long stay parking was close ( 5 mins work) but you will need to factor an additional £9 per day

the scaffolding up and couldnt open windows the breakfast didnt have us booked in the breakfast was dissappointing
tomatoes like bullets partner ordered poached eggs didnt arrive coffee like water my bacon sandwich covered in margarine and oil from bacon very disappointed the bathroom toilet couldnt sit on it had to sit sideways shower door so tight could hardly get in this was my 65 th birthday weekend not nice shortage of toilet rolls had to ask for more noise from scaffolders whe arrived not good very unorganised i had recommended before to friends not now £198 not worth it at all our room number was 215.
