El desayuno fenomenal
Estaba apartado de la ciudad de Vancouver
Good location. Good restaurants attached.
Took considerable effort to retrieve our $100 pre authorisation deposit we paid on check in for a prepaid booking.
This was our 2nd time to Canada and by far best hotel so far., It was close to transport links. Like bus and metro which makes getting around easy. The fact you had all 3 meals plus a cafe which meant you weren’t overly reliant on super markets, the staff at reception were brilliant and helped with initial problems we had on arrival. which continued with restaurant staff when we had breakfast and even cleaners. The layout of the rooms was nice and being high up you got nice view.
The only real down side is where it’s located as area slightly run down and may put people off but that’s mainly nights. You are near train line but if your high up the noise is not too bad and certainly wouldn’t put me off coming again.
I stayed at Civic Hotel Surrey during the World Cup on a redemption booking, which was excellent value given that paid rates were running at more than C$1,000 per night. At those prices, I was surprised the hotel did not seem full, which perhaps says something about how aggressively rates had been set.
The location is convenient if you are using public transport. The hotel is right across from Surrey Central SkyTrain station, and the train gets you close to the World Cup venues in Vancouver. The journey is about 35 minutes. During off-peak times it is comfortable enough, but late at night after a match the train can be packed, and standing the whole way back with crowds of hot, tired fans gets old quickly if you are doing it more than once.
My main issue was that the hotel appeared to raise rates substantially for the World Cup without fully thinking through the needs of World Cup guests. Some matches in Vancouver started at 9pm, which meant fans were realistically getting back to Surrey around midnight or later. At that point, there were no meaningful food options at the hotel. No room service, no minibar, and no late-night grab-and-go option.
That felt like a real miss. Marriott is a World Cup supporting partner, and the hotel had a lovely Instagram-friendly World Cup backdrop in the lobby, which was fun and well done. But the practical guest experience mattered more. After coming back from the stadium late at night, having eaten ordinary stadium food, guests needed something simple and convenient. A small grab-and-go station, a limited match-night menu, or even a list of nearby late-night food options that were safe and easy to reach would have made a big difference.
I raised this with management and suggested some practical fixes, including partnering with local businesses or preparing a late-night food option specifically for match nights. As an international visitor, the area around the SkyTrain late at night can feel a little uncertain, and I did not want to wander around looking for food after midnight.
That said, the hotel itself is very good. My room was modern and comfortable, the property felt clean and well run, and I enjoyed the pool and hot tub. It is a solid city hotel in Surrey and very convenient for the SkyTrain.
Overall, I would stay here again if the price was right, especially on points. But during a major event like the World Cup, the hotel needed to do more than decorate the lobby and raise the rates. It missed an opportunity to meet the actual needs of the guests it was charging premium prices to host.

SO clean! The staff were kind and helpful, the location is great for access to the skytrain, and it was so peaceful and quiet. The outdoor heated pool is such a perk!1
Only con was that there was a really strong scent throughout the hotel, specifically in the elevators and hallways. It didn't bother me, but one of my friends found it overpowering. (Just a note for those with scent sensitivity)
Dear Management,
I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent check-in experience, which I hope will be helpful for improving guest services.
My wife and I arrived at 2:45 PM for our 3:00 PM check-in and were kindly asked to return later as our room was still being prepared — which we completely understood. However, when we requested to at least complete the check-in formalities while we waited, our request was declined and we were asked to come back in 30 minutes.
After 3:00 PM, we made a second attempt and were again informed that the room was not yet ready. We had no issue with the wait itself, but we were once more unable to proceed with the check-in process, which left us a little uncertain as to the reason.
On our third attempt, we were fortunately able to connect with another staff member who was very helpful and clarified that completing check-in while the room is being prepared is indeed possible. We appreciated their assistance greatly.
I understand that room readiness can sometimes be delayed, and that is entirely understandable. My concern is simply around the check-in process itself, as having to make three separate attempts was a little frustrating, particularly after a long journey.
I wanted to bring this to your attention as I am a regular guest at the Civic when visiting BC, and I have always valued my stays here. I hope this feedback is useful, and I look forward to returning under smoother circumstances.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
