Quaint boutique in downtown Onancoke. The location was perfect for us to walk to a show at the North Street Playhouse.
The property is for sale so the restaurant was closed and there was no staff on the premises until morning. There were no clear instructions as to where parking was available.
The “distressed” decor had charm but the bathroom floor showed need of TLC and repair. There is no elevator and very steep flights of stairs up to the rooms, which was a bit of a challenge for two senior citizens. Thankfully, we only had to negotiate one flight.
The location was good and the parking was easy and free. The shower pressure was good and the air conditioner blew nice cool air.
We left at 9:00 and there was no breakfast available. Had to go to the McDonalds on Route 13. The cage door to the restaurant, that greeted us the afternoon before, was still padlocked. We understand that it a rather antique establishment but although the bathroom was roomy the bed took up the majority of the living space. Hardly any area for luggage and the small t.v. was stuffed into a cabinet (why couldn't they mount it on the wall?). Had to use the stool from the bathroom to have somewhere to sit. Unfortunately, the next time we travel through the area we will probably find different accommodations.
Location and historical nature of the building
Restaurant is never open and not great choice of coffee in the morning
Location and historic nature of the property
No early rise breakfast options
The bathrooms were completely renovated and in very good condition for a historic property. The small restaurant menu was excellent for a smaller facility and the food was excellent.
Being a historic property did mean there was no elevator and the stairs were steep especially for older guests but not unexpected.
Still a charming little inn in a charming little town.
When Gary owned the place, it was obviously the labor of love of a person of taste: he ran an excellent restaurant in a small resort town, mixed the drinks himself, and somehow kept the place well-staffed. The new owners have sold off the old dining room, and what used to be the breakfast room--charming, don't get me wrong--is both breakfast and dining room, and breakfast is no longer complimentary. My daughter and I were the only guests for dinner on a Friday night (off-season); the food wasn't bad, but the laminated menu was garish and one had an overall impression of a tarnished jewel. Always sad when that happens.
Breakfast and location fine! Room was too old and small and overpriced. Will not stay here again
The room was tiny! No place to even put suitcase. Shower pray was bad hard v to get soap and shampoo off. Tiny tv. Not a relaxing place to stay. And Pricey ! Will Not stay here again
Location is excellent.... right in the center of the (quite small) town. Everything was as expected. Though no separate lot, street and public lot parking is right nearby. It is an old building but pretty well maintained. Heat, hot water etc. worked well. Rooms are cozy but cute and functional. Complimentary coffee and snacks in the lobby was a bonus.
No on-site staff. Didn't need them and assume they are only a call away. Could have used a microwave; if not in the room in the lobby (where there is a communal fridge). They had no operational restaurant (though one physically exists) but there are decent options across the street and around town.
Quaint
All was good.
Location. Shower.
The Charlotte Hotel is a lovely small hotel.
We enjoyed our stay.
The staff was courteous and very helpful.
We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was nicely prepared and very tasty.
We would definitely stay there again.
There was nothing we were unhappy with.
Small but comfy, quiet, and clean room. We enjoyed Mallards for dinner & sunset and The Foggy Place and Corner Bakery for breakfast. A short drive to catch the ferry to Tangier Island, where we had an enjoyable day.
Restaurant was closed when we arrived, but snacks and drinks were available in the lobby. Mini-,Bar in room.
Did not have an elevator. 2 floors.
