If you want to charge Western prices update that place to Western standard first. This is not a luxury villa. This is an old house which urgently needs some renovation.
Before we got to the house it had obviously also not been used for a long time. Many fans and some showers were not even working at all.
Beautiful authentic hotel set in the hills with a beautiful backdrop. Friendly and tasteful place with an air of stepping back in time. Lovely room staff are very accommodating and helpful. Loved the way it was far from all the hustle and bustle.
Apart from the beautiful ambiance and Kind hospitality, Maghreb has recently been rewarding locals with mattresses as a form of CSR. I am one happy recipient of some of the cosy mattresses. A hotel that cares about its people, is a hotel i would recommend to anyone seeking for a beautiful get away. Thank you Maghreb!
Such an amazing experience!! The staff including the manager Mr. Morgan are always easily accessible and ready to ensure that the guests are having a great experience. It was fun for everyone as we lazed at the pool, the kids had lots of activities to keep them busy and a library too. Their Seafood Platter is a winner (we had it almost every day). Will definitely be back to this haven.
My family and I can never get enough of this amazing resort. Setup within a canopy of indigenous trees, the ambience is superb. The staff are very friendly and always eager to assist. Chef Japheth never disappoints with his culinary skills. I would highly recommend his signature fresh seafood platter. The management is hands on and eager to recommend activities which will compliment your overall holiday experience. You will certainly get the best value for your money at Kilifi Maghreb.
I really enjoyed my stay at Kilifi Maghreb. The food was delicious and the location was very convenient. The place has a chill vibe and is a great hangout spot for travellers. I highly recommend staying here!

Kilifi Maghreb is a beautiful gem. Serene and green. My family loved the rooms, the warm inviting pool and the excellent and tasty meals. The beach is a stone throw away. It was one of our very best family vacations. I highly recommend it.
Visited the place on two different occasions with friends and I must say the host went over and above to make sure we had the best stay.... would highly recommend the place
Alexander was exceptional also
I was there for my birthday. The people were so welcoming and kind, service was great and the food was really good. I would love to go back. Keep up the good work 👏 and good hospitality. It will get you far!
Felt welcome from the first moment.First time in Kenya and it was amazing. The facilities were beautiful and the staff were so lovely and helpful. We were sad to leave but looking forward to our next break. Thank you guys for a wonderful time.
Really Tranquil in the heart of Kilifi Town. Loved my time there, very helpful staff, a kid friendly environment, clean, peaceful and really chill with all the tropical trees in the lush garden! .....
Was there for the kilifi new year and Maghreb was the best hotel we stayed at , their services were great and the hotel rooms were really clean too , would recommend for more people to check it out and enjoy a weekend there
What a beautiful place to spend for my girlfriend and I, clean surroundings, staff always close by for help and there’s nothing you can’t access by the ubiquitous tuk tuks if you aren’t driving! My favorite was my morning jogs and dip in the perfectly located pool right afterward. Looking forward to going back soon
My partner and I stayed in the 'boutique camping' over the Kilifi New Year festival and we would not recommend it as a place to stay. We were really excited to stay here based on the photos from the website and the pre-stay communication.
The main member of staff at the front desk was totally without any social skills not to mention hospitality training. Everything we asked for was an issue and she seemed very cross when we arrived a couple of hours before check-in. There was often no one at the front desk so it was difficult to get drinking water which was behind the reception.
The email we got before promised hot and cold showers, plugs by the tent and wifi.
The showers were dirty poolside showers with no privacy so anyone using the pool could go to the toilet in the same room as you were showering. There was no hot water but this didn't matter as the weather was hot. The plugs didn't work and there was no wifi.
We waited over 2 hours for some chips at the restaurant when we arrived and they lost our order about 3 times despite us keeping checking.
Everyone in the hotel was complaining about the service and the amenities and several people left early.
The pool was dirty and there were bugs which bit you in them.
The positives were that we got a double mattress in our tent and they even changed the sheets on the first night (though not for the remaining nights). Also the breakfast was pretty hearty too.
Overall it was vastly overpriced for camping and really poor service.
My colleague and I stayed at the Kilifi Maghreb hotel for 2 weeks in January 2020 for business purposes - it was a tough stay from several perspectives.
The guesthouses on the periphery of the compound that this would not a viable option for two weeks of business-related fieldwork. The hotel staff were flexible in upgrading us to an apartment. The state of the apartment itself was okay and was cleaned every day. However, it was clear that kitchen cupboards had not been cleaned in a long time and contributed to a general musty smell. The hotel area was otherwise fairly run-down, with unclean furnishings in the communal restaurant area (although clean covers were put on as soon as senior management were on site!). Otherwise we were subjected to both stained furnishings and tablecloths for most of our stay.
The hotel was heavily understaffed which meant that the restaurant waiter was also the chef AND the receptionist. While I commend this staff member for his stellar efforts, the lack of resource meant that the reception was often left unmanned and compromised security, as room keys were kept in an unlocked cupboard at reception which anyone (including myself) could access.
Security was also compromised by many of the locks on the apartment windows being broken, so that my apartment could be easily accessed from the outside. Moreover, I had asked for the lock on my door to be fixed but this was not followed up and I had to resort to using only a bar lock across the door from the inside at night, and keep my fingers crossed that locking the door from the outside during the day would not completely lock me out (again).
There were power outages at night throughout the two-week stay which was less about the lack of energy access in the area and more about a fundamental problem with the hotel's systems. The lack of stable A/C or fans made it exceptionally uncomfortable trying to sleep in the heat. It was advertised that there was wifi in the communal areas but this was clearly not the case, nor was anything done to address it when we raised the issue. This made our business stay difficult and we often frequented the local backpackers whenever we needed to access wifi.
The mosquito nets were ineffective as they had significantly large holes in them which could (and did) let all manner of creepy crawlies in.
In terms of meals: breakfasts were good. Our waiter was very attentive to providing us with packed lunches and this was greatly appreciated. But dinners were mediocre and we often opted to eat elsewhere where there were more people, more ambience and less rats/mice!
Overall, I was disappointed with my stay. I can put only some, but not all, of these grievances down to it being off-season. And while the management and staff were friendly and as helpful as possible, there are definitely some substantial areas in need of improvement.
We stayed here for a few days, and it was awful. The kitchen cabinets and pillows and bed were filthy and had black mould. The windows had broken latches. The door would not close or bolt itself shut and not open again. The mosquito nets had holes. The sockets were loosely fitted or broken. Fluctuating electrical current meant that nothing worked properly.
Truly awful experience and apathetic management that apologised but didn't fix anything during the stay.
Stay away from this place!
Stayed a couple of nights and I have to say that I was overwhelmed by the love Maghreb offered. What I really enjoyed was the scenery, food and an amazingly clean swimming pool that took my breath away.
