This was our first night in Sri Lanka, traveling as a family with two teenagers, and it was a perfect stop between the airport and Ella. Since we landed the same day, we were very tired and really appreciated being allowed to check in earlier than the official check-in time.
The hotel was quite empty, which felt a bit surprising given how nice it is. We had two rooms, both spacious, comfortable, and very well cleaned. The whole property has a calm and pleasant atmosphere, with a nice pool area where we also had all our meals. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with booking transportation, serving meals, or helping with anything needed. We found that the food was very good too.
Our family like to walk around and discover things. We found It’s not very easy to get around on foot without a car or tuk-tuk. There is, however, a good supermarket just below the hotel that is easy to walk to. If you want to go into the town center, which is lively and not touristy at all, we recommend taking a car or a tuk-tuk that the staff can easily arrange.

First impressions of the hotel were very favourable
Small things:
There is air con but no fan. I find air con too cold (as well as the environmental impacts) and would prefer the option of a fan.
The breakfast isn't very exciting - a tiny bit of fruit and white toast, with the option of omelette, sausage and bacon, inappropriate for vegetarians/vegans and not what you'd expect in Sti Lanka. I saw others eating Sri Lankan breakfast but when I enquired I was laughed at.
Larger things:
The management have poor customer service skills. To write the whole story would be too much of a saga so let's just say they did not go out of their way to accommodate us or to ensure a return visit. I travel with a group once or twice a year (this time we were eight including our driver-guide). We usually stay at another property but they didn't have enough rooms for us this time so I thought I'd try the Centauria instead. When I saw the place I thought it could replace the previous hotel for my regular visits as my clients were very impressed. But frankly the attitude of the management sucks and I will not return. My clients agreed with me when they heard the story.
The place was half empty and now I can see why. It is completely lacking in atmosphere; stiff, stuffy and snobbish. It is not a cheap stay at all, and while the rooms may be worth the price, the overall experience was definitely not.
Smaller, cheaper places go out of their way to make their guests feel happy, welcome and valued but these people obviously don't need the custom. Shame.
