We have stayed at this hotel a few times when visiting friends. We are always greeted with a warm welcome. The breakfast is always generous & delicious! We love that it is dog friendly as our little dog often stays with us.
The decor is a little dated & the grounds could do with a little TLC

No food when we arrived and dinner following night was inedible, my husband’s was totally overcooked and dried out
When we. Arrived was like the Marie Celeste no one on reception and when he appeared one man trying to cover everything

Perfect for me as I have two projects running in Cullompton so will use this as a monthly base for an overnighter
Beautiful setting, excellent value for money. Bar area very tatty, totally understaffed so restaurant and bar very poor. Service was very poor. Had to ask for proper glasses, then given two different glasses for shared bottle of wine. No wine cooler. Tables left with dirty glasses on attracting ants!
Furniture dirty and wobbly legs on chairs. Not what was expected from a beautiful building. 10% service charge automatically added to wine prices! Personally I do not agree with this as service was poor. I know short staff but politeness costs nothing.
Our room was clean and well equipped, shower was very good. The lift carpet looked it had not been cleaned in years.
Well kept and presented
Could have payed more attention to the activities in the garden for children. Ping pong table set up it was in wrong place, balls accidentally lost in the grounds. Ball pit not maintained. A climbing frame, swings etc would have helped to entertain little ones.

But nothing special
Our room was on the first floor whilst the relatives were located on the ground floor. Definitely not as requested near each other. Our double room had only I towel in the Bathroom , and no slippers,or buscuits, had to go back to reception to get someone to get the missing items. The room hadn’t been cleaned very well, crumbs were left on the desk by the TV. The room was located above the kitchen, the extractor fan was situated just below our open window, this was turned on about 6am ( breakfast prep) not compatible with a lying in! Also the area outside was the bin store, and bottles emptied in bins was disturbing, it was also a place for staff to rest and have a cigarette. Hotel was not up to standard, my wife wanted to leave and forget about the money, our relatives were agreeable. But after phoning other hotels in the area, there was nothing available.
Our conclusion is that Booking.com is not someone we will ever bother with again.
