The location was amazing because we were going out for dinner and to a show at the state theater. The employees that we worked with were super helpful and pleasant. Loved having on site parking!
The yogurt parfait, while much appreciated, was gross. I had really been looking forward to the coupon for breakfast at tandem
the location was great. Staff super friendly. Love the vibe. Love the drawing room.
It was right in the Deering Historic district. Restaurants were right there.
I thought the rooms 001-004 on the bottom floor felt a little like too far away from the rest of the hotel and like *kinda* sketchy with a door to the outside there.
The staff were beyond helpful and friendly! The room was very comfortable and outfitted with nice amenities, and the location was perfect for what we had planned to do in Portland.
The shower grout needed some bleaching and the hair dryer was broken…pretty minor things on the whole.
The hotel was conveniently located 1 1/2 miles from old Port and the waterfront. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and responsive. There were some night touches such as mold cider in the lobby for guests to help themselves, as well as ready-made coffee in the morning and a light breakfast delivered to your room each morning. There was also a sitting room with a gas fireplace.
The Francis is an easy walk to anything in downtown Portland and to the waterfront. It's easy to find, and the free parking is a real plus. Inside this stately brick building are beautifully appointed rooms that are immaculate. The beds are so comfortable. The place is loaded with character, and the staff are fabulous.
Nothing. Literally zero.
Exceptional service, presented really well, breakfast was great!
Double beds are always a bit on the small side for 2 people but we knew what we were in for when we booked it!
Everything
Nothing
Very comfortable rooms and beds. Staff were very helpful and welcoming.
We enjoyed everything!
Never received extra pillows that were supposed to be delivered right away. Person on day one was fabulous. Second day was not nearly as pleasant or helpful.
Delicious breakfast sandwiches delivered warm to our room from the nearby bakery
The room was very warm despite setting the room temp control to 62 degrees
Wonderful hotel in Portland that takes care of all the details to make you feel welcome!! Very kind and helpful staff made this an exceptional stay!
The location is nice and the hotel is clean/modern. We were put in the basement and the room was large but cold and windowless. The staff was polite but not helpful nor especially accommodating or apologetic given the situation they put us in. In a word, there's no real kindness or hospitality here.
The hotel informed us we had cancelled our reservation upon arrival. There was no email from the hotel or Booking.com stating the reservation had been cancelled prior to arriving and we had not cancelled our room. The staff were cagey about receiving a mysterious phone-call making the cancellation but wouldn't tell us what number the call had come from. They moved us from the room we booked into the basement the night we arrived and then moved us into a different hotel for the following night. This was a pretty big disturbance as we had to meet the manager in the morning and wait about 30 mins for her to arrive to the hotel to sort where we were staying.
In essence, the hotel seemed to have overbooked their weekend and we suffered the consequences. It would have been better for everyone if they had been honest about the situation rather than make up a scenario that made it our fault and then put us out to solve it. They did put us in a new hotel but not without stress or a pretty terrible experience in the process. I would be careful booking here.
I recently stayed at The Francis and couldn’t have been more delighted. The linens were downright buttery—and the staff was exceptionally helpful at every turn. On a snowy evening, the fireplace in the sitting room made the perfect backdrop for lingering with a glass of wine, creating a wonderfully atmospheric and relaxing retreat.
I also loved that the hotel features accessible, locally made Maine art throughout the space—all of it available for purchase, which adds a thoughtful, community-minded touch.
A beautiful stay from start to finish. Highly recommend.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience while staying at The Francis Hotel! Our room was very nice and clean. The location in town was great. We could easily walk to everything we wanted to see in downtown Portland. The hotel staff were very accommodating and the vouchers to the Twinflower Cafe across the street were a great touch.
Fantastic stay! A lovely comfortable and luxurious hotel where all of the finishing touches have been thought of. The room was huge, clean and comfortable, with a coffee station well stocked with quality tea and coffee, and the bathroom had lovely premium toiletries. The hotel also has a cosy library room you can use, and complimentary tea and coffee all day - including both dairy and non-dairy milks. The hotel staff were super attentive and very helpful. The front desk team went above and beyond. We were able to park our car at the hotel and leave our luggage, whilst we explored the town before check-in!!! They also provided a voucher for breakfast at the cafe opposite, which was unexpected and most appreciated! A truly excellent stay - thank you!!!
Cute,cozy,convenient. Free coffee. Parking.lovely staff.
