A real gem of a hotel. Decor was exquisite throughout. Extremely friendly staff all the way through. Beautiful rooftop bar.
Located just down the street from the Orpheum Theater. Great hotel, the roof top bar is amazing. Staff is terrific, they really go out of their way to serve you.
This was the poorest stay I've had in a while. I was not recognized as a Titanium Elite at check-in. I was told I had late check in through my AmEx reservation, but then I was told I did not. There were no face cloths in my room. My sink backed up. Hot water was spotty. There was only one trash can and no recycle bin in the room, and the lighting was awful. The restaurant hours appeared to be completely random. Honestly, there is nothing about the state that I enjoyed and for a "Proper" hotel, the experience was incredibly disappointing.
Two dogs, rain and power outage. A recipe for trouble. But nothing can phase this team at the Proper. Amazing staff, comfortable rooms in a central location.
While location isn’t the nicest area of Market St, it is a great location to get around the city. Charlemagne’s is a great roof top bar. Staff is excellent. Villon breakfast was delicious. Valet is on McAlister as you turn right off of 7th. If you get it wrong it’s a long loop around in traffic.
The level of service and personalized attention made our stay a first rate experience! My first stay at The SF Proper has set the bar high - from reservation to reception to dining….
Clearly they hire exceptionally skilled and talented staff who work with attentive professionalism to provide their guests with a fabulous experience at this beautiful boutique hotel.
My go to hotel is The Proper and am spoiled by the consistent excellent experience in Santa Monica. I decided to try the SF Proper on a business meeting and I was impressed. While the bathroom wasn't as beautiful in size and material as Santa Monica, my room was lovely. It had a window into Market Street, and the bed gave me great sleeps. The helpful staff made me feel safe and cared for, and its stylish public spaces were perfect for meals and meetings. The roof was hosting a private event while I was there but I hope to check it out next time.
This place is absolutely gorgeous. I would describe it as vintage elegant. The rooftop deck is beautiful and the views are amazing. Very Romantic.
The staff was amazing, Wyatt up front handled the chaos with a grace and poise that is exemplary. The staff and management inside was warm and extremely welcoming thank you all for the wonderful stay!
Beautiful hotel; decor and ambiance had a wonderful retro vibe. Exceptional staff. It’s nice to see a team who enjoys their job.
Great location. Would highly recommend and return.
The S.F. hotel lobby is gorgeous but the neighborhood is ugly and dangerous. Parking is quite expensive and the valet is not as professional as expected. The rooms are small and cramped (not really cozy). Rooftop bar was closed due to buy out which we were not informed of ahead of time before check in.
My stay was absolutely incredible, everyone at the hotel was amazing! Martha and Flor in housekeeping are truly special; I miss you. Warren and Katrina were so prompt and efficient with every request I had, making everything effortless. Archie was friendly and kind at check-in and set the tone for a wonderful stay.
Everything looked and felt incredible. Thank you all, and I miss you!
Rooms are fine- although windows are filthy and haven’t been washed in years. Mattress comfortable, shower ok but not great, service ok but nothing special. The main attribute of this hotel is its immediate proximity to the Tenderloin and all that is unpleasant about US cities - homelessness, pervasive weed smells, boarded up shops, etc. it’s inequality central, shockingly downtrodden in a city that spawns so much wealth otherwise. Not an area at night that inspires a sense of safety and security- although to be clear I was unbothered by anyone so it’s more just a vibe.
I wouldn’t return - based on location mainly, but also just generally meh as a hotel. Next time back to the Kabuki.
This hotel is nice, service and staff 10/10. The breakfast was decent but seemed overpriced. Room service dessert was a bit underwhelming and the lobby coffee was awful. I loved the interior of the hotel and the gym is super nice. Unfortunately the location is the reason I wouldn’t stay here again.
Tiny, dark rooms. Could use a lot more lighting. $45/ni "destination fee"?? Apparently this gets you a bottle of (potentially questionable) tap water that gets refilled everyday. Highly unclear what else you are entitled to.
Absolutely DO NOT STAY HERE
We booked this hotel for a night and inquired about a reservation for the same night at their Rooftop Lounge.
One of their staff, Archie, emailed me that he had us booked at the Rooftop Lounge for the of our stay* We found out several days before to that the reservation was made for a different night and the hotel could not accommodate us.
It took four phone calls to finally reach someone about this*
It is terrible to book a hotel and for you, as a guest, to not be able to use their amenities. It is truly terrible when the hotel’s staff promise make broken promises that you yourself have to investigate.

Had a great stay, clean, quite comfortable. Wyatt was very attentive and a great host! Plus stay again. Neighborhood is a little rough, but the street it in seems safe enough and there’s always staff outside
Horrendous location with equally bad staff. I flew in at 9pm and went to check in for my reservation and they refused to check me in without a physical credit card even though I had multiple forms of proof. The front desk put me on the phone with Cameron who apparently the Director of Operations and he told me in a condescending tone they would not do anything to assist and would cancel my reservation. Save yourself the headache and stay anywhere else. This is not it.
A beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms and a scenic rooftop view. Enjoyed the outdoor comfort and the great view of the city around me.
I thought you said this would be easy. Too many comments.
The surrounding occupants made the SF experience less.
I needed to take a Lyft to the Embarcadero.
I'm not sure why I was not allowed to drive up Market Street.
