Great staff.
No free whisky
Good location, helpful staff.
Decor a little tired
Swimming pool was why I booked this hotel. The pool was clean and generally empty when we used it. Water was cool rather than warm but it was pleasant once you're in it.
Location is good. Only 5 min walk to the center and 10 min to the ferry or train station.
Room was very spacious. Provided hot chocolate sachets, biscuits and complimentary water which was nice.
Parking at the rear of the property is available which is good and free.
The reception staff were very polite and courteous.
Did not have breakfast or dinner or bar. The area looks nice and clean. They offered a discount on breakfast for £12/pp adults and £6 for child but we declined as we wanted to looks around ourselves.
Dinner was £25/pp buffet style but again we wanted to go out and find a restaurant.
Room 66 is an Annex, which is situated in the car park alongside around 6 others. We were not made aware of this until we checked in as these were the family rooms and it wasn't mentioned when booking. In the main hotel itself they only had rooms which can occupy single or doubles available and they were also fully booked (which is understandable). However the annex rooms did not have double glazing, door handle/locks were questionable, did not feel safe. One evening there was a group of boys playing football in the car park, possibly guests but it was very close to us. It can get noisy if there are delivery vans/bin lorries etc going around. It is generally quiet though at night which may not be the case in the hotel where you may hear other guests moving around the corridor.
Shower pressure was awful.
No hooks to hang up jackets which meant wet jackets on the arm chairs.
Feels more like a Motel than a hotel with the annex buildings, feels isolated from the main hotel. No view apart from the car park.
Would return but only if it's the main building.
A very grand old building but very well kept, spectacular views from the bar and restaurant. Staff were an absolute joy to speak too and they couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. We left at 6am so they prepared a backed breakfast for us to take away, sandwiches and fruit. Simple but very nice of them .
Nothing really, the corridors can be long and the room can be a fair walk, but this isn’t a criticism of the hotel, if a building is large then some rooms will be further away from reception.
Location, views, staff very friendly.
Pool was a little cold
Large room (annexe).
Low quality products in the cooked breakfast
Beautiful view from hotel overlooking Oban bay. Watching the ferries and the boats.
Quiet location with easy walking distance to centre of the town.
Food at hotel good and varied.
Nothing to dislike
Location
Food was below standard (buffet)
Very reasonable price as we were getting a very early ferry in morning. Beds were comfortable with lovely crisp white sheets. Very clean and good location.
Decor is dated and brown net curtains look dirty from outside looking at the hotel ( they aren’t)
The hotel is very clean and the staff were very nice and helpful
Having stayed many times at this hotel and before it was taken over by Muthu there were no complaints. However since the take over it has become a bus party hotel with the food to suit.Their is no al la cart. It’s take it or leave it and I chose the latter. There is a good spoons on the pier or alternative hotels such as th Oban Bay
Amazing staff and a fantastic restaurant. The location is unbeatable — right on the promenade, which made the whole stay feel special. My son, who is autistic, even enjoyed the food, something that doesn’t happen often, which made our stay even more special.
One note: families are accommodated in annex buildings, though it would be preferable if they could stay in the main hotel.
The Alexandra Hotel in Oban is beautifully situated on Oban Bay seafront. I enjoyed the Seaview room for every night except one night, and would recommend, where possible the seaview room..!
The Reception Staff, in particular, Jude, Tina and Stephanie, all from the Philippines, deserve a great accolade, for their efficiency, professional friendliness and amazing service.., and the Hotel Manager should be very proud of them, and reward well accordingly..!
Unbelievable view, great dining and bar. Family room was very good
The pool was out of order. We booked the hotel for the pool, so disappointed we were not notified it was out of order
The service was very good and Julie really helpful thank you for all your help. The location is great , the living room is very nce and comfy
The breakfast and food overall was the one we appreciated less in Scotland, worst scrambled egg ever. The steaming room was a bit oldish . Worst bed and bathroom very old and cold.
