We got into town early and showed up about an hour before check in time. They were accommodating and got us to our trailer within 15 mins of arrival and also had lovely warm cider to enjoy by the fire while they finished preparing our trailer
Some mold spotted in the trailer and the sunroof above the bed dropped a few sprinkles of water from condensation in the morning
Great Staff. Beautiful property and love the Airstream setup.
Which you will have a pool
Secluded
There’s stains on the sofa and the bedding. After telling the staff, the front desk said she’s going to send someone to change the bedding. When we came back, we only saw bedsheets left on our table in the autocamp. For the price we paid for two nights, this is unacceptable.
Bed and location
Breakfast is a joke. Receptionist was rude and unprofessional. Check innis not until 4pm and checkput 10am, and they dont allow exceptions. Hot water is little for showering.
AutoCamp Sonoma (Russian River) is a can't miss. It's beautifully tucked in surrounded by redwood tree and not too far from Johnson's Beach and downtown Guerneville. Great location. Plus it's in a gated area and feel extremely safe.
The customer service here is fantastic. I was privileged by checking in with Laurel. Very kind and detailed in explaining how things work at AutoCamp. Most of all was great to my dog that I was traveling with. Maybe it's the millennial in me but showing love and attention to my dog means so much to me. I was gifted a glass of wine for my birthday (when this visit was) and ended up chatting with her while in the club house. It really made my trip even better. Absolutely love that indoor fireplace on rainy days, which it was. Jill was so kind when we went and got coffee in the morning too. The staff is really fantastic.
I was staying in the premium airstream #9. This location was the absolute best. It was on the end so there was no visible neighbor when I had the door open and just the view of all the greenery and trees. With it being the premium airstream, it gave me more personal outside space. But that location felt like so much space. It was lightly raining the next morning so just watching the rain and the birds chirping and flying around was so peaceful.
It's a perfect place to visit with your dog. The airstream is spacious enough for 2 people and a dog. We were definitely cozy.
I'll definitely be back to this location since I'm only about an hour away. This is my second AutoCamp location and will be visiting more. It's more like a resort with nature and the perfect balance of both for me.
The airstreams are very good
The bedrooms are good too They’re just so good. Just very good.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Our pleasant trip soured very quickly when dealing with Todd Craig, the property general manager. About two hours after checkout, I received an email from Todd that we would be charged over $1,400 to replace the futon sofa - because our toddler had scribbled a few pen circles on it. We immediately took responsibility for our child's action, but explained the amount was excessive and unreasonable - it's like being billed for a new car because your kid drew on the seat when it could easily be cleaned.
Aside from the attitude and demeanor from Todd through a lot of back and forth (e.g. literally said "you admitted to your child damaging the property so you are responsible for replacing it."), it was his response in another review not being truthful about the situation that really left a terrible impression about AutoCamp. My wife had to explain basic cleaning tips that would remove the markings. He then asked us to send a video as proof it would work, which she was willing to do. Fortunately, his team were able to use our tips to clean the futon. We get it. If there's damage, the family should pay. But cleaning should be the first option. And most importantly, do not lie and deny what it took to resolve the situation (the customer having to explain how to clean markings).
To be clear, the front desk staff, groundskeepers, and other team members were all kind, accommodating, and showed great customer service. Unfortunately, that professionalism stopped at management.
Sadly, this experience ensured that we will never return to AutoCamp. A simple issue could have been resolved with understanding and fairness—but instead, it became a lesson in how poor management can overshadow an otherwise pleasant stay.
Bye, AutoCamp.
Beautiful setting! Nicely laid out campus. Fun Airstream experience, nicely equipped. Store well-stocked. Nice staff. VERY Expensive!!!
We enjoyed our stay in the custom Airstream trailers (classic). It was a quiet setting amongst trees. I was surprised at how small the property actually is. The trailers were pretty close together but because it was the off-season and most children are in school, it was very quiet. We had space #24, which is further from the communal areas and the clubhouse - I would recommend that space. You park your vehicle in a general parking area and use wagons that are provided to haul your personal stuff to your campsite. We did not hear any dogs barking but we did see one dog off leash on the property (against the rules) and no staff said anything to the owner of the dog. There are overhead heaters in the breakfast/coffee area, so you can warm up in the morning or you can sit by the fireplace in the clubhouse. There is a small store that is well stocked with essentials if needed, as well as some AutoCamp merchandise. Safeway is conveniently located 10 minutes from Autocamp. There is no cooktop or oven in the trailer so you can microwave, eat a cold meal or cook over the fire ring outside the trailer. An alternative is the many places you can eat in Guerneville or a little further out. We did visit Armstrong State Redwoods Preserve, which is a beautiful park with old growth redwoods and accessible trails, which is about 10 minutes from AutoCamp. We also drove a short distance to the coast at Jenner and observed the beach, surf and birds. The fan unit in the trailer is extremely loud, even on low. It was quite hot while we were there, so you had to have the air conditioner running. I recommend ear plugs, which is the only way I managed to sleep. Otherwise, the bed and sheets are very comfortable, the towels are substantial and the bathroom is large compared to a typical travel trailer. We did not use the couch/futon for sleeping so I don't have an opinion on the comfort. There are lawn games available as well as board games and cards in the clubhouse. You can pay more for trailers that are located on a creek (completely dry) and are said to be spaced further apart so more private, but it was hard to tell that there was more space on those sights and I would hardly call it private by any measure. Another option is a canvas tent on the "meadow" but I would be concerned about the noise of other guests/dogs. We were able to get a late-checkout so we didn't have to rush in the morning of our departure. We would return under the same circumstances.
I was really looking forward to this 3-night "touch grass" break. I've been a camper since a young age, but I'm also no stranger to traveling alone and treating myself to a bougie resort spa. This was neither a resort nor a serene spot to commune with nature. Based on the description, I was expecting a very nicely appointed airstream in a quiet, restful location away from civilization.
The unit was pretty barebones in a closely packed pod of about a dozen other trailers. The full kitchenette amounted to a minifridge and a tiny microwave that could accommodate a frozen dinner. Not sure what the cast-iron pan was for. Maybe for use on the outside grill? Unclear. The "airy sitting room" was a stifling oven as it was 90 deg outside and required the air conditioner to be running nonstop at a deafening roar. No water pressure in the shower. I made the mistake of washing my hair, and it took forever under the trickle to get the shampoo rinsed out. While this was intended as a chill-out mini vacation, sometimes you need to stay in touch. The free wireless was sketchy at best (clocked at 18.30 mbps and 174 ping). Unfortunately, it's a Verizon deadzone (0-1 bars most of the time) so hotspot is not an option. Had to drive a couple miles down the road to the Safeway parking lot. Definitely not "Your refuge in the redwoods" as headlined on the webpage. The site is just outside of town directly on the road in a dense residential neighborhood. At least there was a privacy fence separating it from the main road.
The gourmet food was free coffee and granola in the morning. A self-serve bowl of fresh fruit was also provided on the first day, but on the second day, I didn't get there until about 8:15, so it was gone. The morning of the third day I decided that life is too short and there are better things to do. They would not refund the third night, but offered to remove the $35 amenity fee. Would have been nice to remove it for the other 2 days as well...for one, I'm not into cornhole. So basically I'm out $1460 for 2 nights. I left on a Tuesday morning, but had to email them on Thursday to get a copy of the receipt as they didn't give me one when I checked out. Would have been better off in a Holiday Inn Express with a few trees in the parking lot. At least they have bigger microwaves and free stale bagels for breakfast. Could really have spent that money on something else.
2-star rather than 1-star because the bed was comfortable and parking was free.
If this is what you're into, that's fine. You do you. However, I am providing a description I wish I had before shelling out that much money and wasting my time off. You can do better.
Everything was perfect
Had the best stay here - great location, vibe and staff! The front desk was super knowledgeable about the area and had great suggestions that made our trip so special!
We had a wonderful stay at AutoCamp until the very end—when it was ruined by the general manager, Todd Craig. My 4-year-old scribbled pen marks on the futon. As a mother, I do everything in my power to keep an eye on him, but sometimes even in the blink of an eye, toddlers do toddler things. I am genuinely sorry. Todd Craig sent an email to my husband saying we owed $1,443 because with “several cleaning / extraction procedures taken, (they) were not able to remove the marks on the Futon.”
I called Todd Craig and first apologized over and over. He literally responded to me saying that “Well you admitted to your child damaging the property so you are responsible for replacing the futon.” Literally that’s what he said. I told Todd, yes I take accountability but to charge $1,443 to replace the entire futon is unjustified. He said because there are no futon covers (which is the managements decision) we are responsible to pay for a brand new one. I researched and proved isopropyl alcohol removes such marks. He actually had me SEND HIM INSTRUCTIONS so his staff could clean their own furniture—then called back saying “We were able to get the stain removed from the futon using the isopropyl alcohol…I’m glad we tried that, so we’re all set now and you have no further things on your part you need to take care of.”
The fact that I, the guest, had to solve this problem for them was beyond unprofessional. Beautiful property, but the way Todd Craig handled this was so off-putting and so unprofessional, it left a terrible final impression.
Loved our stay! We stayed in the airstream and
We booked an Airstream Suite at AutoCamp Russian River for a 1 night stay via the Hilton app. We were particularly curious about the iconic Airstream trailers in a glamping arrangement. We hadn’t been to the Guerneville area for more than 15 years. We haven’t been camping in about 10 years. What a great way to catch up on both.
HURRAY! HURRAY!
- The Airstream trailer impressed at first sight.
- The bed was amazingly comfortable. Casper pillows. I think the mattress and mattress (both cushiony soft) were also Casper; perhaps the duvet as well. 60% cotton 40% polyester bedding from A Simple Better Sheet.
- Complimentary WiFi was speedy with SpeedTest results of 41.8 Mbps Download/15.0 Mbps Upload. Connectivity was strong inside the trailer as well as in the private outdoor space.
- The LOCATION near Guerneville, the river and the coast was great.
IMPRESSIVE
- “Private” outside area next to trailer with campfire ring, adirondack chairs, side table and patio dining table with umbrella. Ours was truly private because the next unit (a tent) was not occupied.
- The kitchenette was compact yet had enough surface space for food prep.
- The bathroom was also compact yet arranged well so it didn’t feel cramped. Luxury-level AutoCamp-branded shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and hand wash, pleasant scent and paraben-free. Hotel-quality 100% cotton bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths and bath mat.
- Hot water arrived to shower in around 15 seconds. Water pressure was low, but adequate.
- Clean mini-fridge and microwave oven.
- One of the cabinets in the kitchenette area had a folding tv tray table and several clothes hangers.
- Also appreciate the Blackout Buddy emergency light/night light.
- Excellent lighting inside and outside. The trailer number was well-lit and path lighting made it easy to walk around at night. Bright bedside lighting with easy-to-reach switches. The bathroom entry had a frosted lighting panel that was a chic touch. The retro click-y light switches were cute.
- Lots of electrical outlets throughout the trailer. We used the bedside, kitchen, bathroom and sofa area outlets; all worked. Sofa-side there were two USB charging outlets and a Pyle panel to connect for music from your own device over Bluetooth.
- There was a 28” Samsung 720p television in the bedroom with about 120 channels of programming. Adds to the “glamping” atmosphere without going overboard.
- Super front desk staff. Late check-out request granted. We chatted with Laurel the first day and Blythe the next. I had also called before making reservations with questions, and was impressed with the staff even at that point.
- Easy access to Pacheco Park tennis/pickleball courts and playground (next door), Russian River (across CA-116) and Guerneville (2-3 minute drive).
- We spent a little time beside the fireplace in the lobby. Comfortable and airy area.
- Great property grounds. Swings. Camp fires. Herb garden. Hammocks. Grassy area. Walking path.
- Very thoughtful to provide bicycles (for riding around the neighborhood) and wagons (for transporting luggage).
- Folding sofabed afforded comfy lounging space inside the trailer.
- Overall everything was clean and well-maintained. Cabinets showed a little wear and tear, but that contributed to the charm of the camping-side of glamping.
- Easy parking.
THE WISHLIST
- Spa robes and slippers should be provided to support the “spa-like bathroom” claim.
- Muffins would be a nice addition to the free breakfast of granola, bagels and coffee.
- Only things that needed a little TLC were the window levers (a few were finicky to open and close), and the toilet flush lever (sometimes needed extra effort).
- Live music and yoga were not scheduled during our stay.
A SIDE NOTE
- The name of the place got changed to AutoCamp Sonoma while we were there which seems like a marketing mis-step since the city of Sonoma is around 45 miles away (AutoCamp website lists “Sonoma, CA” which is a reference to the city), and that does not connect with the promise and expectation of a woodsy glamping theme. “Sonoma Coast” may be more appropriate, but “Russian River” is still more endearing and authentic.
Great hybrid glamping-hotel experience. Also has a “lodge” feel. Pretty good location for calming forest bathing. High praise for the thoughtful service, ambience and accommodations. Enjoyed the stay so much, I even bought an AutoCamp t-shirt.
First time in Guerneville and Glamping. This is basically camping with support so expect kids and to hear other Glampers. Tents are about 6 ft from each other and yes, they are canvas so not noise proof. Trailers are trailers so expect quirks. Set your expectations and you'll have a great experience like we did.
Lovely location nestled in redwoods with beach access across the main street. Friendly staff who made our stay very enjoyable. We received an email prior to arrival with gate and trailer access codes. The site is nicely laid out and we found it quiet at night. We had both a tent and a premium airstream for our group of four. There are two levels of airstream and the premium is the step up which has better location and a larger plot but the airstreams are all the same. The regular airstream locations are near the front by the clubhouse and #24. Number 24 overlooks at house at the back so less secluded. Our airstream had a large table with two benches and two chairs next to the fire. Access to trailer is with a keypad with small buttons. It has a very faint chirp when you press each number so listen carefully. We could have brought a camping stove to cook on the table but we were able to cook with BBQ briquets in the fire pit. The tents were nicely appointed and the folks slept well. The airstream is a trailer so there are some quirks which is part of the experience and charm. Low water pressure and loud A/C plus it rocks back and forth if someone is walking. Common bathroom is very nice. Two showers, one enclosed toilet and urinal for the men. Morning coffee and bagels were provided. Overall, a lovely experience which is a bit different than your typical hotel and great way to introduce someone to the camping lifestyle.
