Hotel Gion Misen

We loved the breakfast, the staff, and the location and value. The only negative is that we had large suitcases and there was very little room for our clothes. Bathroom tiny but the steam shower was amazing.

Ken at the front desk was really helpful, provided lots of information and suggestions around the area.

Staff were super friendly, rooms really nice and very easy to walk around

10/10 location was amazing!!! This was probably my favorite hotel we stayed at in all of Japan! So peaceful and combines old world charm with modern vibes ! Front desk was so helpful and everything was perfect!

Very comfortable. I was surprised about the mini bar being free. It didn't have all the things one finds in a mini bar, but it was nice to get complimentary water and ginger ale. Clean. Great bathtub. The shower head position was a little strange as it didn't point at the bathtub. You were supposed to take a shower standing outside of the bathtub, but it was a minor detail. We just moved the shower head in the direction of the bathtub, and the stream was a little crooked thats all. It was still a good shower. Taking a bath was great, we just don't do that as often.
Downstairs they had complimentary coffee and tea. Service excellent, as in all of Japan

Beautiful boutique hotel on a lovely quiet street in the heart of Gion. Our room was on the 4th floor with a view over the rooftops of Kyoto- very charming. Decent size room for a small hotel. Staff was friendly- location just perfect.

This was an amazing gem of the property that was close to the GION district. Super walkable to the metro center we traveled all over the Kyoto area, including going to Nara Park and the bamboo forest on the west side of town. The room was awesome for my family 04 with two small boys and everything was on point easy check-in zero hassle and just overall pleasure to be there.

Nice and experienced staff. We’re English-speaking and had no language barrier issues. About a 10 minute walk from the station. There was some signs of wear and wall stains in our room, but the bed and bathroom were spotless.

This is the third time staying the Hion Missen, a smaller Queen room this time rather than the King. Apart from missing a view and being a little dissapointed that this was not mentioned in the room description (being able to see outside is important for me) it was the same wonderful experience. Cannot fault the staff, with a wonderful mix of local and international and area is quiet despite being in the heart of Gion. 10/10, cannot reccommend highly enough.

We stayed with 3 people and the rooms were quite spacious.
Would recommend this property not only for its beauty but also as it is so close to the very busy commercial areas, yet shielded from all the hustle and bustle.

Loved this hotel. The aesthetic and employees were wonderful. The bathroom was such a great experience, like a little private onsen! Beds and pjs were comfy!
Walkable to everything we needed.

We chose this hotel after so much research and finally decided to give it a go!
It was a little tricky to find as there is no big sign but once we found it it was easy after that!
Check in was smooth and the staff throughout the stay was exceptional with helping us with recommendations, questions and getting cabs for us!!
The room was beautiful, we had a ground floor room with a zen garden view.
It was spacious and we had a lot of room to spread out!

Overall this was such a great stay!

Our stay at the hotel Gion Misen in Kyoto was fantastic. The location is incredibly convenient—just a short walk from the Train Station, making it easy to explore Kyoto and beyond.

Our room was very clean. We also appreciated the variety of great dining options available right within the hotel. The hotel is only a few step away from a beautiful river.

The staff were polite, professional, and always ready to help. Thank you for a wonderful and comfortable stay—we hope to return again soon!

This hotel is very western (nothing wrong with that), so if you’re looking for a more authentic experience, this is not it. Staff was fluent in English. Pillows were super thin. Nice location. For $185 a night, you can do better. This hotel is not located on the river as one of the pictures might lead you to believe.

We have a wonderful stay. The room size was a bit smaller than I had anticipated but that is to be expected given the location. And it’s away from the chaos. The location was perfect and was close to the public transportation and right in the Gion district. There were times I felt transported to the past which was surreal and made the trip more enjoyable. Staff were amazing and very friendly and helpful. Don’t expect a luxurious experience but expect a truly authentic one which is priceless.

The room was large by Japan standards with chic decor and an excellent traditional bathtub and separate shower.

I couldn't have hoped for a more charming or well-equipped hotel. The staff were very helpful, the room was great....
Location location location!

Location is s fantastic ,front desk is friendly , very helpful. The room was spacious bed was comfortable. I like the esthetics of the place. Felt like a boutique hotel .
