Excellent Service

Very comfy hotel in a nice green environment.

Shiyan is a very small town for China and I was looking for somewhere nice to stay after doing some traveling, which the Hilton Garden was able to provide. The room was very spacious and well equipped, and the staff assisted me a lot in spite of having to use translation devices.

Price was reasonable and location was great. complimentary shower gel and shampoo smelt great.

Before booking this hotel, I had some hesitation due to the low number of reviews. However, I was truly pleasantly surprised with how nice this place was. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The property is relatively new.

The staff was courteous and helpful. In particular, a nice lady named "Anson," who is the operations manager, went out of her way to schedule car service for us for a 5 AM pickup. Not only was the driver prompt and attentive but Anson was also there at 5 AM to see us off and to offer us a brown-bagged breakfast for the road.

The property has coin-op laundry which came in handy, as well as a daily breakfast buffet consisting of both eastern and western fare. All in all, we spent just shy of a week at the hotel and would definitely look to return when we are back in Shiyan.

In my more than 30 years traveling in China, I rate this hotel in Shiyan as one of the top 10 in China.

The hotel is centrally located in Shiyan, a moderately-sized city (by Chinese standards) located near Wudang Shan.

As in most truly outstanding hotels, the staff is where the Hilton Garden Inn shines most brightly: courteous, professional, and well-trained. English isn't a strong point for all of the staff, but there are a few who speak and understand well enough to assist with most any need.

The facilities are new, clean and comfortable. Beds make for a restful night. Rooms are quiet and large. Lobby restaurant serves a good hearty breakfast buffet.

Although this is listed as a four star hotel, it is at the top of that level. But the prices are moderate and very reasonable.

In my limited experience, leadership is always key to such a successful service establishment as this hotel. And I was honored to meet Mr. Matthew Pan, Operation Manager, during my stay. He was charming and friendly and went out of his way to ensure my comfort and made me feel most welcome.

The city itself is peaceful and relatively clean. It became one of my favorite cities in China in only a few days. Less pollution, kind people, good energy.

Of course the highlight of Shiyan is the nearby Wudang Shan (shan means mountain). An area south of the city full of ancient temples and Kungfu schools. Definitely worth spending one or two days visiting. Expect much walking, and much of it strenuous if you wish to go to the top of the mountain. Although you can walk all the way to the top, I strongly recommend you take the cable car (a long and lovely ride) and then hike the rest of the way to the top. The Wudang historic area is located about an hour away by taxi.

I definitely recommend this hotel to all who come to visit this very pleasant Chinese city.

Picked this hotel because it’s an international chain hotel, although it’s far from Wudangshan, the reason for our being here. It’s a new hotel in a new district, with many local shops & restaurants close by. Front desk staff is very nice & professional, especially Joy & Jeffrey. Jeffrey greets us every morning in the cafe & chats with us in English. We really enjoy his professionalism & mannerism. The hotel is not crowded at this time & we were able to enjoy some peace & quiet while having breakfast. Breakfast is simple, a fusion of east & west, and more than adequate. Although our room faces a residential area, it has all standard amenities & comfort, except on the third & last night when the A/C decided to quit on us. It was a very warm day, & our room temperature was reaching 32 degrees. When I called the front desk, we were told the hotel had not turned on the cold air, & we should open the windows instead. Luckily, we slept okay through the night with the windows open. Overall, a very good stay. Thank you.
